Is back 18th April. I'm so glad we are getting a series this year, I find it such great escapism.

Is anyone else a fan?

I dread to think what this one said to have post removed. Who is going to be rude about Call the Midwife?
Crispina · 14/04/2021 20:55

I'm watching the One Show on iplayer. Rylan just asked the Dr Turner actor why his wife chose him for Call the Midwife. Grin

@ilovecarbs90

Good news about the renewal for another 3 seasons. I expect that will be it after that though.
It's really time to stop now!!

Yes he said he never says No to her.

I thought he looked quite dishy on the One Show. They probably make everyone look a bit overworked and dingy for 'Call the Midwife', so they blend in with the surroundings.

I love CTM but must admit Stephen McGann is the one actor in it where I'm thinking "Stephen McGann acting" rather than "Dr Turner" while watching it, so I can't get into it as much when he's on. The other actors are all good though. Just my opinion. A friend doesn't agree

Plumtree391 · 15/04/2021 09:35

I think he portrays the typical family doctor, part of the community, of that era.

Crispina · 15/04/2021 09:53

I just don't think he's a good actor like the other actors in it so it spoils it for me.

DieSchottin93 · 15/04/2021 10:59

I find Dr Turner as a character rather irritating 😆

Thank God it's not just me! In fact I find the whole family very Irritating - no one is that wholesome 😀

I see the actress who plays Nurse Crane a lot walking her dog in our village and have to stop myself asking her about various story lines!

Neither would you have found a house full of young nurses/midwives who were (nearly) all virgins (and generally slim), in the late 1950s and 1960s! 1 in 3 girls who married aged 20 and under were pregnant, it was probably much the same for those over 20. Nurses were no exception but not the ones we see on CTM (so far).

It is a drama and reflects the accepted morality of that era, and some of the hypocrisy.

I find the Turners quite believable. The two adults have had their difficulties but mostly before Patrick and Shelagh got together. Maybe Timothy will do something dreadful in the next series, who knows?

DieSchottin93 · 15/04/2021 14:32

Dr Turner is just such a smug know it all though, he always manages to diagnose a totally rare illness after reading a case study on it or whatever and manages to be everywhere all the time 🙄😂😂

Adore Call The Midwife

Crispina · 15/04/2021 15:52

I love the Nurse Crane character. She's my favourite. Linda Basset's fab

Agree, Nurse Crane is my favourite.

I recently rewatched it and shed a tear when Barbara asks her to be her Maid of Honour. Wonderfully acted.

Mine too. Hence the name. Grin

One of my absolutely most favourite and memorable moments of TV was Nurse Crane sobbing on the steps of Nonatus House when Barbara died. She is a brilliant character, superbly acted, and very reminiscent of the nurses of my childhood (early 70s). We had a nurses hostel at the end of our street.

Maireas · 16/04/2021 12:40

Love Nurse Crane. I would have loved her to deliver my babies.

Crispina · 16/04/2021 22:59

Me too. She was great in East is East too

Holothane · 16/04/2021 23:30

Delighted dvd then just in time for my birthday.

@GertiMJN

Didn't the grumpy policeman move away to go and live with his sister by the seaside after he got discharged from hospital? Yes, DieSchottin93, leaving lovely Phyllis to support Miss Higgins.

Looking forward to the new series!

I'm still shipping nurse crane and miss higgins! Grin
embolass · 18/04/2021 18:31

Nurse Crane reminds me of senior nurses when I started nursing back in the early 90s. So wise and full of common sense , sadly lacking in today’s senior hospital management .

JaquelineBeanstalk · 18/04/2021 20:08

Ready for the teal spotting!

Maireas · 18/04/2021 20:13

Not too much teal at the moment! Trixie is annoying me already.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 18/04/2021 20:15

Oh no I missed the first 10mins!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 18/04/2021 20:16

(Evening all!)
