Is back 18th April. I'm so glad we are getting a series this year, I find it such great escapism.

Is anyone else a fan?

I have also done the Call the Midwife tour at Chatham Dockyard and would definitely recommend it. They've used a number of buildings there for different scenes in the early series. I presume they'll be back once lockdown is over.

It annoys me that Lucille and Cyril are always so far apart. Could they not be in some kind of bubble and stand closer together?? There is a complete lack of chemistry between them because they are always standing as far as they possibly can from each other.

Taswama · 02/05/2021 22:22

That tour sounds good, will have to suggest it to my mum.

I'm really noticing the social distancing now it's been pointed out, but not seen it on Line of Duty.

Holothane · 02/05/2021 22:44

Much better tonight I was also thinking Munchausens.

MyOtherProfile · 02/05/2021 23:37

@PurpleWh1teGreen wow I didn't know that was a thing!

Maggiesfarm · 02/05/2021 23:52

@Toddlerteaplease

The writers seem to have completely forgotten how a religious order works.
Why, how? They seem pretty regular to me (I was at school with nuns for some of my education), and different orders vary.

I love this programme only recently got into it...watching on Netflix. Just great

Cooroo · 03/05/2021 07:13

The colour scheme is driving me mad! Once seen I can't unsee it. It used to be the odd splash of teal but now they've added the mustard yellow.

Freesunglasses · 03/05/2021 07:59

Wasn't Mrs Williams the one who played marlons wife in Emmerdale? I liked her in this but never liked her in Emmerdale. Always thought she couldn't act but shes shown she can.

That young woman broke my heart, so sad.

Clawdy · 03/05/2021 08:31

I didn't find Mrs Williams "lovely", she was so snappy and unpleasant with that nice gentle husband, and the lady helping her ( not sure if she was friend or family, missed that bit).

Maireas · 03/05/2021 09:05

She was stressed and unwell and separated from her baby.

Soubriquet · 03/05/2021 09:07

@Binglebong

I'd like Dr Turner to diagnose someone and get it COMPLETELY wrong! It annoys me that he has such a modern attitude (that actual doctors often seem to miss).
I’m just watching now but he did once

Remember baby Raymond Prendergast.

He kept having fractured bones and initially the hospital put the baby in foster care as it looked like the parents were hurting the baby. But it turned out to be brittle bone. And doctor for himself in a state and went all depressed and wouldn’t do anything

Soubriquet · 03/05/2021 09:49

What’s with the annoying “yaaay” from May and Angela all the time though.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/05/2021 10:43

Loved Mr Williams.

Not loving Dr Turner docsplaining everything in a mansplainy way and being the best doc since sliced loaf.

I am praying that his yaying bairns learn to eyeroll and tut at him soon.

Really praying.

And if it happens, SMJ will get her faith back quicker than a wink.

Rockbird · 03/05/2021 10:51

I loved that Shelagh got her own storyline this week away from everyone else. She was such a good character early on and they've ruined her. But the Christmas special and last night reminded us that she's her own person, and was, as Sr Bernadette, the most accomplished midwife (and teacher) they had. She's better than that stupid doctor.

I wish she could get a medical degree. She'd be a great doctor.

Agree the mansplaining is annoying. I know he's a doctor but it's the acting that annoys me

I know, that was so cringy.

Right? I know they’re young and probably can’t be relied on to get their lines right yet, but at this point I’m wondering if it’s just a recording they’re playing over and over. Five year olds don’t do that all the time!
Emmelina · 03/05/2021 10:59

Are we going to lose Sr MJ this series, do you think?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/05/2021 11:08

I was strangely unmoved this week - my black little heart was only gladdened by the sublime Phyllis and Miss Higgins.

I love Phyllis. Love her.

I want to be Phyllis. I reckon I’m as annoying as Dr Turner. But not as sickeningly compassionate and understanding.

I do a mean eye roll and a tut better than Ankhamun.

I could have his kids tutting like an old fashioned teleprinter. They could have him doubting himself and questioning his ability to tell which was the sharp end of a scalpel.

And he’d leave. With Trixie.

And Shelagh could have his baws in a jar to show her students.

I’ve it all worked out. Grin

Who knows, it feels like she's been on the brink for the last five series.
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/05/2021 11:15

I think I’d SMJ had popped off to the gates 5 series ago, there would have been an outpouring of shock and grief nae canny. Like my much missed Sister evangelina .

I think now it’ll be a blessed relief.

I like SMJ - don’t get me wrong. But I’m ticked off they made her question her faith when she’s chapping on god’s door.

It is almost cruel.

Notnownotneverever · 03/05/2021 11:23

I also don’t understand why Doctor Turner (forgotten the actor’s name) is sudden such a rubbish character. Terrible dialogue, over explaining and also poorly overacted. Shame because he was a good character.
