Is back 18th April. I'm so glad we are getting a series this year, I find it such great escapism.

Is anyone else a fan?

Yes thought the husband doing a total flip in attitude with his cheating wife waa odd. Also not sure why he arrived home unexpectedly and the left again the next day!!

I think I might go back and watch some of the earlier ones, although I am still enjoying this series. I do miss some of the past nursing characters, I saw something about a new joiner but not sure when she comes in.

I do find it interesting that the tower blocks are now already starting to show as not great (damp, lifts not working etc). There were so many pulled down with a focus being on family homes etc and now we're back to building tower blocks with a speed that makes me want to weep especially given the cladding issues (I live very close to Grenfell)...feels like history repeating itself...

I agree.

I watched an old one this afternoon, it did seem strange to see washing lines hanging across a street and women standing on doorsteps, chatting. Not as bad as the dreadful old tenement type flats with one lavatory to a floor that you see in some episodes.

It's not surprising people thought the new blocks of flats were good at the time considering what they had been used to.

The series has always been enjoyable for me and I've seen most episodes three times! It's interesting to see the societal changes. My mum always commented on that.

Surely GDD was known about in the mid 60's.

Maireas · 02/05/2021 20:20

I'm always annoyed in these programmes that they have every lamp on, even in daylight. That young woman had hardly any money and would switch the lights off.

BurtonHouse · 02/05/2021 20:23

A mystery solved the other day while listening to Fi Glover and Jane Garvey's podcast. Last week I wondered out loud to dh who on earth that talentless non-actor Mcgann had had to sleep with to get the gig as Doc Turner.
Never realised he was married to Heidi Thomas.

Just checking in. What is wrong with the girl seeking the doctor? She refused the appointment

PurpleWh1teGreen · 02/05/2021 20:24

If anyone is interested, I did a "call the Midwife" tour at Chatham Docks last year, where some of the series is filmed. It was great to see some of the houses and alleyways.

Seems to have lots of symptoms, but nothing shows up.
ImAncient · 02/05/2021 20:29

I’m thinking munchausen?

Woodlandbelle · 02/05/2021 20:36

Poor lady. She has herself in a state Sad

Woodlandbelle · 02/05/2021 20:36

Aha... She put the blood in the urine herself

Maireas · 02/05/2021 20:38

Poor thing. She needs help. Poor Mrs Williams as well, what bad treatment. Will the curate romance Trixie?

Love the idea of that, thank you!
Maireas · 02/05/2021 20:48

Poor Louise. She seems so desperate

Woodlandbelle · 02/05/2021 20:51

She is an excellent actress. Its heartbreaking and the c section mum is so good. Really enjoying it tonight.

Binglebong · 02/05/2021 20:51

I'd like Dr Turner to diagnose someone and get it COMPLETELY wrong! It annoys me that he has such a modern attitude (that actual doctors often seem to miss).

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2021 20:52

Not sure why a curate having mass would be an unusual. They would have been fairly high church.

woodhill · 02/05/2021 20:57

It's become simpering and rubbishy

Maireas · 02/05/2021 20:59

I wish Cyril would propose. I want a wedding!

Binglebong · 02/05/2021 21:01

I wonder if the lack of contemporary music is due to coming into copyright territory? I suppose the later it is the more likely the holders are still alive.

Maggiesfarm · 02/05/2021 21:08

Me too but it's getting close! This series I'm sure.

That business of the girl with psychiatric problems was so, so sad. Unfortunately I'm not sure psychiatric treatment was all that good then (not saying it is wonderful now).

Very good episode tonight, I was relieved that Mrs Williams didn't die! I had feeling she might but, no, she had her baby by Caesarian and her diabetes appears to have been gestational. Phew!

Can't wait for next wee and wondering who the chap is who is 'phoning Trixie.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2021 21:09

The writers seem to have completely forgotten how a religious order works.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2021 21:09

The bloke phoning Trixie is the husband from
Last week.

Maireas · 02/05/2021 21:11

Yes, I was sure that there would be a sad ending for the lovely Mrs Williams, and possibly poor Louise, too. People have been suggesting that widower as a love interest for Trixie.
