He could be a mediocre tosser, or he's acting like a mediocre tosser for a reason.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/03/2021 10:00

It's surely crucially useful to the OCG(s) to have a useless, lazy copper rising through police ranks ...

But yes - any organisation has these people.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 27/03/2021 10:15

Surely even the OCG is better off with competent people on their side!

I’m now considering one of my senior managers and thinking that being in the pay of a sinister crime organisation may be the only meaningful explanation...

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/03/2021 10:34

Depends whether competence coincides with integrity. OCGs presumably need people in the police force who don't actually care about the role of law enforcement in a civilised democracy!

So by 'useless and lazy' I meant also lacking integrity and easily lead.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 27/03/2021 10:48

Well yes, no one with integrity will work with the OCG. But competence and integrity exist independently!

Buggerthebotox · 27/03/2021 10:48

..... or too lazy to ask questions. I can think of so many people like that (not necessarily bent, just complacent). Decisions are not questioned, so corruption and incompetence can continue.

Jed is very good at showing institutionalised complacency and incompetence isn't he?

Buggerthebotox · 27/03/2021 18:03

Just had a quick look at tomorrow's episode in the RT.

Mother of God I can barely wait..

Poochster · 27/03/2021 21:40

Just rewatched ep 1 ready for tomorrow. Early on, Steve tells Ted that Jo was put on to lead the Vella investigation 'to replace the previous officer in charge'. Who moved her in and who did she replace? Could indicate that someone higher up has put her there so that they can control the running of the investigation. Sorry if this already got picked up... I forgot the start of thread one by the time I reached the end of thread two!

Buggerthebotox · 28/03/2021 09:03

It's been picked up @Poochster but it has to be relevant, surely. I think I know who Buckells reports to (the CC) who hasn't been named afaik. Im hoping that person will make a reappearance.

Something that I don't think we've considered is the possibility that Terry is more involved/significant than we think. He's not Vella's killer but I don't think he's the innocent dupe that we've been led to believe he is necessarily either. That interview was odd: it was almost as if he was being led, regardless of his ability to answer.

Lots of parallels with the Jill Dando case.

Templetrees · 28/03/2021 09:55
@WeeGobshiteBentBastard I have a huge soft spot for Steve and hate him being miserable 🙈
Is he miserable or is he addicted to codeine?
He had a prescription plus he bought 2 packets?

SingToTheSky · 28/03/2021 09:59

I’m so happy it’s Sunday :o

BobBobBobbin · 28/03/2021 10:14

Rewatched episode one and a few things bothered me:

-why was Jo/the AFO team not informed that the team watching the flat had been stood down at the time, rather than it only being revealed later on when Kate spoke to them. I mean that’s fairly significant info that would be relayed at the time, no?

-and why were they on the scene at all when they found the body of the chis? Why was there any reason to suspect that this was the chis, they didn’t know his identity!

-why did Steve only pay attention to the bit of the CCTV footage when the AFO convoy past the bookies - surely it’s relevant to see what happened before that (how long had the van been there, how long had they been inside the bookies?). Why did they have to get the CCTV directly from the bookies themselves, surely that would already have been handed over directly to the team investigating the robbery?

I know the answer to all of these questions is it just serves the purposes of drama/the plot but they all annoyed me!

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 28/03/2021 11:30

Marking my place, I've watched s5 last week and s6e1 - but I'm now hoping to get a rewatch of s1-4 in before e2 airs Grin

Buggerthebotox · 28/03/2021 11:41

@BobBobBobbin

That's the trouble with LOD though, innit?

You never know which bits are significant, then you kick yourself for not seeing it. So you end up questioning every tiny thing just in case it IS significant.

I remember getting very hung up on Hanna's earrings in S5. I was on the point of writing in to Jed but managed to stop myself before making a tit of myself, as Kate would say.

Earlybirdcatches · 28/03/2021 12:02

Yippee it’s Sunday

They are a murder investigation unit so they were called in for the CHIS - someone was already dusting the balcony for prints so obviously they were already underway in their process.

Steve only paid attention to that bit of the CCTV because he was trying to establish whether she could actually have seen something suspicious - that’s what he was looking at, not the crime itself. Makes sense to me.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 28/03/2021 13:04

Just realised it's actually Sunday, so rewatch of s1-4 will have to be before e3 airs! Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/03/2021 17:17

Just got here and a million posts already!

I rewound to that bit myself last week, and spent the episode wondering why she suspected a van merely parked up.

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 28/03/2021 17:50

Who was the (unnamed?) officer who shot the kid at the bookies? Cause until that point, they could have continued couldn't they? Is he/she the bent one...?

WeeGobshiteBentBastard · 28/03/2021 18:10

Less than three hours to go people. Get in position. Wink

LutherRalph1 · 28/03/2021 18:14

@Templetrees I think he's always been a bit mardy, even before the accident

Don't know, but that's one of the reasons I don't think Jo is the main bad guy. She got told to divert. Someone else gets told to shoot the robber. It's who ever is pulling the puppet string who is the key.

OP posts:
storminabuttercup · 28/03/2021 19:21

I thought they shot him as it looked like he was pulling a weapon?

minou123 · 28/03/2021 19:29

It's Sunday!

I was pissed the clocks went forward, but now I'll see LOD a little bit quicker Grin
