I'm pretty sure they mentioned that Terry had moved when his character was brought back in for S5.

CheekyWeeShite · 26/03/2021 07:20

That explains the flat then - thanks! I only just rewatched S5 but I missed that!

BobBobBobbin · 26/03/2021 07:26

@Netaporter

Also shrine of duty podcast put forward a couple of interesting theories...that The not-happening armed robbery was designed to remove one team of AFO’s with an OCG-friendly AFO team. Then the delay in the sitrep to Jo was designed to give the replacement team time to get through Terry’s barricade and put up the pics of Gail Vela...🤔🤔
Why would they not just send out the OCG friendly AFOs in the first instance, rather send out another group then stage an elaborate plan to delay them?

I’m finding this whole ‘fake robbery’ thing really far-fetched though TBH. If it was an OGC set up designed to delay the AFOs...wouldn’t there be a simpler way to delay them? The fake robbery thing would need to planned out down to the minute. How much time did they have to plan it?

BobBobBobbin · 26/03/2021 07:31

Also if Jo was in on a plot to delay the AFOs, then surely she would be in on the wider plot to plant Terry and implicating evidence in the flat. So why did she then release him?

Northernexile · 26/03/2021 07:32

It's filmed in Belfast now so they had to use a different flat for Terry. Probably why it's a different actor too.

She might not be fully in on it, but rather being played as a pawn to do specific tasks only? Lots of scope for blackmail - relationship with Farida; whatever the story is of the woman in the photo.

The people who planted Terry in the flat weren't expecting him to be charged and convicted. He was just there to waste police time. They knew he'd be released pdq.

LutherRalph1 · 26/03/2021 08:49

I thought something was scribbled on Steve's cup in the coffee shop but could just be an edgy design?

Could it just be his name? That's the thing with this series we are always looking for clues. Maybe in series 20 we will see a flash back and the cup will give something away like Dots dying declaration 😂
BobBobBobbin · 26/03/2021 09:59

It all just seems to be substantially more effort than necessary (like semen traces on the pictures...really?) to just be a designed to be just wasting time. But then on the other hand the framing was so crude (flat empty bar for a load of pictures of the victim stuck to wall) it doesn’t seem to be designed to be a serious attempt to fit him up.

I don’t know if I’m just over thinking it, but it is a series which very much lends itself to overthinking!

I think I might have to watch it again to try to gauge to what extent she was just going through the motions with interviewing Terry.

Even if she was only in on part of it, she would then be questioning what else was going on.

ChequerBoard · 26/03/2021 10:27

I rewatched S6E1 last night.

Made me wonder if Jo is being blackmailed about her relationship with Farida (surely sleeping with your direct reports is frowned on) and/or has left Farida to keep her safe, away from whatever she is hiding behind all those locks in her flat from?

I noted the very obvious difference in security levels at Farida's house (normal single lock) and Jo's flat (more locks & bolts than Fort Knox) and Jo's tearful throwing of the glass at the family photo after lying to Farida that she has no family.

Buggerthebotox · 26/03/2021 10:47

So : Terry's being fitted up to waste time. Jo must've known he would have to be released due to lack of evidence so going through the motions.

Buckells seems to want a result. Jo's not getting it. I think Jo's in on most of it, including the botched paperwork enabling the gap in surveillance.

Still finding Farida's behaviour odd. I wasn't convinced by the tears to Steve on the phone when she told him that "he doesn't know what she (Jo) is capable of". I thought she was putting on an act.

And she's always around but sidelined and not really taking an active part (although it's her picking up the phone to whoever makes the initial call to MIT). She's looking on worriedly when the gunman goes down in the ambush and she's there at the scene of death of the CHIS.

Kate seems to be more involved (perhaps as a DI whereas Farida is PS). Is she jealous of Kate? Does she have something on Jo?

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 26/03/2021 11:37

I'm definitely of the opinion that Jo's quarrel with her boss was purely for public performance.

And she is absolutely not worried about her own safety - the locks and bolts are for someone else.

I don't think her break-up with Farida was for any conventional relationship reason. She probably needed to be away from scrutiny while dealing with whatever shady business she's involved with.

Haven't formed a theory one way or the other on Farida - but I'm sure the fact she opened the show is highly significant.

unique1986 · 26/03/2021 12:08

Wow imagine the amount of pages on here if the 1st episode of Series 6 was actually really good. Like 5 stars 10/10 every word said captivating.

YouKnobhead · 26/03/2021 17:04

I suspect there's nothing in it so it wasn't worth the air time but when efficient information gatherer Chloe took the files to Steve on the armed robbers, there were only files on the three who were on their knees outside the shop afterwards. Not the first out who got shot and not the van driver. Just an observation.

Also, a couple of pp mentioned the writing on the coffee cup which Jolly bought for Steve. Her cup had writing too. I think identical. So it looked like it was part of the design on the cups, I think.

That's interesting I thought there were 4 all together, I've watched it 3 times now I'm not watching again 😂
LutherRalph1 · 26/03/2021 20:15

I am rewatching, the cups do look identical but when she leaves, Steve does turn the cup round and look at the writing 🙈🙈

Buggerthebotox · 26/03/2021 20:31

Maybe Jolly had written something on the mug?

Only 3 of the robbers have IDs so far don't they? There was a lot of camera time given to one of them - Jake I think? - so maybe he'll reappear. I'd forgotten about the driver of the van. Did we see him (or her) even?

medquart · 26/03/2021 21:03

I think Jo is involved to a certain degree, just not sure quite how much yet.

I think she feels threatened by whoever is 'making' her do whatever she needs to do, hence the door locks. I also think she's split up with Farida because she can't let her know what she's involved in and didn't feel safe living in a house with just 'normal' locks. She may have caused the break-up for that purpose whether they were happy or not.

WeeGobshiteBentBastard · 27/03/2021 07:03

I hope Jolly Rogerson has a continuing role in this series. I want her to be the one to help get Steve out of his miserable lonely rut of a personal life.

For me the biggest mystery is how Buckells has maintained his top position for so long when he is clearly crap.

Anyway I'm already gearing up for tomoz, going back-to-back on two....Grin.

littlewedding · 27/03/2021 07:46

DP and I have just binged the previous series in about 2 weeks to get ready for this season. Always impressed with how the story has been held over so many series and so many things link back to something else.

I don't really buy that the second set of AFOs were all bent and they set the crime scene up whilst in the flat. Quite unlikely, as presumably they would all have to be in on it. I can't remember how many of them went into the flat but that's a lot of officers that have to be corrupt enough to set up a vulnerable man for murder.

ChequerBoard · 27/03/2021 07:51

I don't think the second set of AFOs were bent at all. It's that the delay arriving could have enabled the OGC to get the real suspect out of the property and leave Terry in his place to be arrested.

LutherRalph1 · 27/03/2021 08:00

@WeeGobshiteBentBastard I have a huge soft spot for Steve and hate him being miserable 🙈

Dailyhandtowelwash · 27/03/2021 09:39

Sadly no mystery to me after my own career. Not police at all but plenty of mediocre tossers get to the top.
