Man with Wise is the Police Commissioner, who featured in series 5. Rohan Sindwhani

Thanks @Dailyhandtowelwash

I think he is the 4th corrupt

Pomegranatespompom · 30/03/2021 23:12

@Buggerthebotox I disliked her too, completely ott.

Tedisateddybear · 30/03/2021 23:29

I'm really struggling to get my head round how Ryan has managed to join the police. I know others have said he's had help from the inside etc, and this may well be true, but he hasn't even attempted to hide his past, still using his real name.

Surely his enlistment would involve more than just one person and I'm sure his name would have been registered on the police system somewhere, even if he was never charged or convicted of any offences. I know this would happen in real life, and I realise that this is only TV, but I can't believe that Jed has overlooked this.

Either way, I can't wait for the moment that Steve clocks him. Maybe his face, but definitely his name. There is no way he's not going to remember him. But I do fear for Steve's safety when he does.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 31/03/2021 00:06

We saw Ryan in his interview being completely ‘open’ about his involvement with crime when younger, and credit Simon Bannerjee with turning his life around. There is no record of him having committed any crime since then - so nothing to pick up on. Only we know that he was/is an active OCG member.

It will be interesting when Steve finally sees him because on the one hand he will be furious to realise who it is, but on the other hand everyone already officially knows what Ryan did, and he wasn’t charged, and supposedly regrets it, so any suspicions Steve has will have to be justified rather than just an instinct.

Tedisateddybear · 31/03/2021 03:35

Thanks @Dailyhandtowelwash, I don't recall that at all. There is just far too much to remember!! Still think Steve will be livid.

YouKnobhead · 31/03/2021 05:20

I think this is why it could be being teed up for Steve to have a difficult time of it, and on his own. It will be the word of the painkiller addicted officer vs, the reformed bright young thing with the likes of Buckells and God knows who else behind him.

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 31/03/2021 06:55

I think Steve, the painkiller addicted officer will be the subject of a recruitment attempt by the OCG based on supply of opiates (get a first lot into him by stealth or assault, then let his good it feels do the rest). What would he do for a reguiar supply?

Then see his struggle - will he do the right thing? Or is the pain to much? And as addict officer is not much use to the OCG either (other than ceasing to be a tenacious investigator), perhaps he becomes expendable all round. Easy to supply an overdose

ImAncient · 31/03/2021 08:37

I do not want to see a bent Steve. No no no. If that happens I’ll cry. It will not be pretty.

Buggerthebotox · 31/03/2021 08:46

I think of all of them Steve is the least bent, but I think he's capable of being turned, especially with his current problems.

The OGG know him already which may make him a target. I think Kate's clever enough to cover her back but Steve? No.

Im loving this but I'm hoping that the conclusion will be subtle and not too obvious (or silly, which could be a real shame as it's generally so thought-provoking and intelligently-written)

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 31/03/2021 08:46

I so want to see Steve restored and revitalised. If he’s bad I’ll feel like I did at a thing that happened in Harry Potter. I had to put my book down for days and fume at JKR.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 31/03/2021 08:52

I do keep coming back to the fact that if any of the main three has been bent all along they’re doing spectacularly badly out of it.

I don’t think Ryan was convicted of anything, cautioned at most. Which means his caution would have been spent and also filtered from DBS by the time he applied to the police. Tbh I’m not sure he was cautioned or even charged with anything, so I suspect his entire record had been expunged by the time he applied to the police force.

But yes Buckells should know him - or is he just too thick to remember the interview?

And Steve definitely will know him...cannot wait for that showdown...

YouKnobhead · 31/03/2021 09:36

I am still hoping Steve's back isn't as bad as he made out and as pp suggested it was a ploy to get Steph out of her house, it it feels unlikely given the quantity of pills he's popping.

IntermittentParps · 31/03/2021 11:06

I'm not particularly invested in Steve and would be more devastated if Kate or Hastings were bent.

BentBastard · 31/03/2021 11:36

I'm not ruling out Hastings being the fourth corrupt police chief. I'm still thinking his partial vindication at the end of last season could have been a bit of misdirection.

Some problematic things still don't feel resolved adequately for Hastings.

ChequerBoard · 31/03/2021 12:23

I think we might be about to see Steve going undercover as a bent officer for the OCG, hence laying on the pain, making selected people aware of his painkiller addiction and also making overtures to leave AC12 through Jolly.

All highlights his vulnerability and makes it likely they will try and recruit him. Hopefully Superted is well aware of all this going on...

Frazzled2207 · 31/03/2021 12:58

Agree but I think Steve is least likely to be bent.
SaintReatham · 31/03/2021 14:20

This really isn't the year for me to sit through another 4 episodes of Steve spiralling into humiliating drug addiction, being turned by the OCG, courting shame and possible torture, etc, etc, while Ted glowers like post-shave Aslan, and Kate wears higher and higher polo necks. I only have this much >< imaginary emotional strength left. Jo's lock-heavy front door makes me feel tense and unhappy, and it doesn't even have any lines.

I fear I may not make it to the end of this series.

IntermittentParps · 31/03/2021 14:38

Saint, I know what you mean about imaginary emotional strength, but surely it's Kate's polo necks that keep you coming back? (and her enviable cheekbones). It is me, anyway. And Ted's old-man-isms ('banjax' Grin)

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/03/2021 15:35

I don't think there is an H. I think it's Flat 4H - next to Flat 4F. This may have been suggested earlier.

Suzysuz · 31/03/2021 17:02

Interesting theories on Steve.... hadn't thought of those but good theories, I'll be gutted if he did turn corrupt.

What are thoughts on Buckells? He's been in most seasons, not been overly impressive at his job but could that be his cover for being corrupt?

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 31/03/2021 18:00

I'm rewatching it all - on to s3 today 😂

Things I noticed from S1... no waistcoats (not one! Instead there are many sweater vest thingys), and no beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Very weird. Both then appear with a vengeance in S2

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 31/03/2021 18:03

My concern for present-day steve - he will complain about Ryan working there, but with no recent criminal activity on file, will be told to put up with it. Steve will then witness Ryan do something, but won't be believed because he is seen to be holding a grudge.

Whatwouldscullydo · 31/03/2021 18:07

I've been re watching too.

Deffo waist coats/wedding attire

And there was a beeeeep!

And he walked like that before the accident so its not back related

More stating the obvious that I'd remembered too. Steve asking staff to do stuff that they would already been doing likenhes the one that thought if it all and they need telling [hmm

I'd forgotten abkut Kate and ackers husband too.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 31/03/2021 18:28

No: if Steve sees and recognises Ryan and tells Ted the bastard tortured him there's no way Ted won't back him. It might be a case of surveillance or just an eye on him, but Ted will believe Steve.
