@ChequerBoard thinking back to Ryan and Kate: afaik the only time Kate ever came across Ryan was in that interview. I'm not sure if she was authorised to carry it out because I think Buckells was in charge of the case at that point. Kate left the interview and Buckells took over.

My point being (I think) that if Kate was not authorised to carry out that interview it may not be recorded so there won't necessarily be an official link between Kate and Ryan (although it also suggests that Buckells has come across Ryzn previously himself).

PawFives · 30/03/2021 14:01

Like someone said earlier, we need a family tree (or even better a spreadsheet!) to keep track of everyone.

ceeveebee · 30/03/2021 14:15

Surely Ryan remembers that interview with Kate though (given some of the language she used!) so would he not tell/warn the OCG?

IntermittentParps · 30/03/2021 14:27

Ryan and the OCG might be biding their time.

Thinking about Kate potentially being AC-3 and undercover officers in general - how does it actually work in terms of officers being inserted into those roles?

I’ve never really understood how Kate could suddenly just pop up in an undercover role without other colleagues being really suspicious, or even signing off on it

Say Kate is an AC-3 plant sent in to observe Jo. Does Jo as her boss not normally get some say in who is appointed to her team?

I’ve no idea how it works in the police, I can only assume it’s different from in regular jobs as I’d sure as hell notice if some random person rocked up and joined my team without me directly recruiting them!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 30/03/2021 14:40

I have no idea how it actually works, but in LoD it's always been implied that someone senior knows she is a UCO and is told by AC12 to 'make it happen', so the people on the ground have no idea but think she's arrived in a legitimate way.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 30/03/2021 14:45

Isn't she often 'seconded' or one occasion she was supposed to be investigating a case with parallels from another force

I don't know about police but in the NHS as it's one organisation people can arrive on your team that you didn't choose due to redeployment from other areas, on training rotations, on secondments or sabbaticals. Lots of reasons.

That's about right!.

Someone on the thread mentioned Jackie Laverty's husband - I have the same theory that there is more here.... I've rewatched s1-5, all that is mentioned about him is his name (Andrew Laverty), that he and Jackie divorced and that he was a millionaire....
I wondered whether there was any link there in Jackie having to reinvest in OGC, keep those cash flows or something....

Also agree I think the tape sounded like Lakewell, he went to jail but didn't co-operate with anything

I sadly have notes on persons of interest from s1-5 😳 like my own investigation white board 🤣

Suzysuz · 30/03/2021 15:18

@IntermittentParps

I can't believe after Ryan's years with the ocg he still got in the police. Even without actual previous convictions you'd think he'd have had plenty of cautions for petty crime before he moved on to throat slitting. I think someone bent and high up got him in.
Definitely, at the end of s5 in his police interview he references being inspired by PC Bannerjee and who helped him (something like that), I'll be so gutted if Bannerjee is corrupt as he was the nice PC in s1 who gave his card to Ryan to help, and he did seem to go against all the corruption and poor practises.... 🙈
cathybates · 30/03/2021 15:34

Thinking this is just a continuity error as cannot see how it could be at all relevant but in series 1, episode 2, Gates is tucking his kids in - he keeps getting missed calls from “Jack Laverty” which I assumed was cos he’d listed Jackie as Jack to hide her from his wife. However, you then get a quick glimpse of the screen and it says “Jackie Laverty” - I watched it back twice and it’s def that. I doubt Jed makes errors but I just can’t see why that would be relevant

EasyLifer · 30/03/2021 17:06

I only re watched series 1-5 a couple of months ago but I feel as if I need to watch yet again for anything I may have missed!

I'm quite suspicious of Sindhwani, he's quite a well known actor to only have such a small role so far.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/03/2021 17:15

I feel like I need to re-watch all the previous series every week, the way it's going!

And I don't think a spreadsheet would help me. I need it in a pictorial form with lines between the connections.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 30/03/2021 17:35

I've seen something like that - was it linked to on here, or the last thread.

It was too confusing to be very helpful though I thought, but I've got it all fairly well in my head so I didn't spend too much time looking at it.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/03/2021 17:48

I think it would need to be across a whole wall so it wasn't too cramped / confusing. I'm not sure DH will be up for that! 😂😂

NowWeAreFuckingWeasel · 30/03/2021 17:51

I want to see the whiteboard Suzysuz so far I only have my own memory to rely on, which isn't great.

It was me who mentioned Andrew Laverty. I'm sure it's just a continuity error as I can't imagine that Jed had it planned all along that he was a major person in the OCG, but he may error him into it at some point. I do think it's weird they never interviewed him over her disappearance and he wasn't a suspect.

He was fairly prominent in the resolution of series 5 - not a lead character but he is there - so far - as an example of the political 'optics' that the police have to deal with. He might get worse this series of course!

I noticed that too, but I think it was just an error...
tigger1001 · 30/03/2021 18:39

The social worker in s1 who was looking after Ryan had the surname Hargreaves - connected to dcs Hargreaves who was killed in s5? Could that be how Ryan got into the police?

Suzysuz · 30/03/2021 19:10

Yes tigger1001 😊 I actually completely missed that, on rewatching I had Les Hargreaves down on my list as a possible for H until I was reminded and saw that he actually dies in s5 in the raid and as a balaclava man.... (the OGC had leverage on him mentioned later in s5). Then someone on a different thread mentioned about the social worker, it's s1 when Kate interviews Ryan and there's about 4 people with Ryan in different roles, one being his social worker Jane HARGREAVES.... coincidence or a loop round to how the vulnerable youngsters are recruited into OGC's.....

KittyOSullivanKrauss · 30/03/2021 20:34

I haven't got any decent theories on why AC-3 might be investigating or the bigger picture. I think I just want to see AMM again playing Carmichael. She's good in Motherland but her performance in LOD was outstanding.

Carmichael looked like she wanted to continue to pursue Ted at the end of series 5 (we still don't know why he visited Lee Banks in prison) but she was told by Wise to drop it. I think Kate was also left with doubts. But how that leads Kate to Hillside I'm less sure about.

I think a few others have said this but Terry is the only character who would recognise Ryan instantly at the moment. Would love him to be the one to expose this but also really quite worried about his safety....

ceeveebee · 30/03/2021 20:54

If anyone wants to see real life organised crime in action, bbc1 9pm. Last weeks was shocking, the policewomen handling it all was so brave.

Buggerthebotox · 30/03/2021 20:54

I really disliked AMM as Carmichael (probably the only one). I thought she hammed it up too much.

But yes - it was Wise who told her to drop the Ted investigation. Forgotten that. Hmm

ceeveebee · 30/03/2021 20:55

Oops sorry bbc2

Buggerthebotox · 30/03/2021 20:56

That BBC programme was a shocker. Real - life OCGs in action. Scary stuff. Those cops must be made of strong stuff.
