Erectile dysfunction? He couldn't get it on with Sam Railston in S5 - suggestions were that it was down to his back injury.

Buggerthebotox · 30/03/2021 07:40

Great minds!

Buggerthebotox · 30/03/2021 08:03

I think it's pretty clear Jo knows Ryan. She also knows that Kate knows Ryan. In every scene they've all been in together Jo makes a point of dismissing Ryan - to try to avoid Kate recognising him?

So Kate has clocked Ryan and has probably ID'd him. Jo fears Kate realising this which - to me at least - suggests a prior relationship between Jo, Ryan, the OCG and institutionalised corruption in the force.

I'm guessing that whoever recruited Ryan is in on whatever's going on too.

I'm still not sure if Kate is brown-nosing Jo or if Jo is brown-nosing Kate. Grin

I don't think Steve is hoping for anything romantic with Steph. He's clocked Hastings' relationship with her and is suspicious of him. I think Steve's been promoted to keep him onside (or to ensure that he doesn't take up Jolly's offer). Ted's behaviour in S5 was highly suspect - Kate and Steve both know this: i think they're all capable of corruption though.

I'm hoping that this series doesn't turn into "bent coppers by numbers" but I think we have to acknowledge the potential for bentness in everyone. Including Wise, who I think could turn out to be the bentest of all.

She's been promoted, has no time for Ted, can't be a Mason. She's close to Sindwani. Too close, or just close enough to avoid scrutiny?

CherryValanc · 30/03/2021 08:16

Jo introduced Kate to Ryan - so I'm not too sure it fits that she knows Kate knows Ryan.

Slightly randomly, I remember this morning as I logged onto work that when Steve sat down (after unofficial temp promotion) he dint' have to enter a password. What's the likelihood of that- that in a workplace (esp police) it's not compulsory to do close out when you leave your desk

PawFives · 30/03/2021 08:26

Does anyone remember when the big chief woman (Wise?) and man who was in her office when Ted was there came into it? I remember the AMM character in the last series but not these two. I like the theory that Kate is working for AC3. In one of the early series Kate went to a high up woman (specifically so she wasn’t a mason, I seem to remember) to get sign off on a covert undercover op - has she been in it again?

CherryValanc · 30/03/2021 08:29

No, not yet - it's Patricia Carmichael - played by Anna Maxwell Martin. I hope so - I do like her.

storminabuttercup · 30/03/2021 08:38

One theme on these threads is that we always discuss if someone may be related to someone else.... we are never right 😂

BentBastard · 30/03/2021 09:16

I thought it was Wise (before being promoted to DCC) that Kate went to for authorisation to investigate Hastings (because not Aon)

We only meet AMS for the first time at the end of series 5

BentBastard · 30/03/2021 09:16
  • because not a mason

**AMM

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/03/2021 09:18

@FawnDrench

I loved the way DCC Andrea Wise assertively shooed Ted out of her office whilst giving him a sort of "god not this bent coppers speech yet again, it's getting so bloody tiring" look.
Who was the bloke with her

I’m wondering if he is the 4th bent one

Nope. It's a different senior police officer.

Man with Wise is the Police Commissioner, who featured in series 5. Rohan Sindwhani.

NowWeAreFuckingWeasel · 30/03/2021 09:31

I've been mulling over this episode the last couple of days like you do (which is what I like about LOD) and I'm trying to recall what has happened to Jackie Laverty's husband. I think she was divorced wasn't she? I wonder how involved he was in her money laundering and if he was (and still is) involved with the OCG in some way. He probably is long gone, but the series never really looked at this.

Anyone know who is promoting Buckles despite his apparent crapness? It's like they put him in place as a half -arsed senior cop along with someone bent to keep an eye on him to make sure cases remain unsolved. He is very easily influenced and lazy, so will just do what his subordinates suggest as he has no ideas himself.

Was Nasty Nige talking to Vella in that clip? He loved his backhanders! Also knew what Dot was upto and would know what happened with Hunter and the OCG and there being bent cops working with them. Think they will try to bring him in during this series in some way as he is a character people love to hate. Talking to journos was the sort of thing he would do for extra cash.

Possibly repeating what others have said, but I’m 99% sure the voice on the recording was Jimmy Lakewell

Buggerthebotox · 30/03/2021 10:17

Ignore that! Getting carried away. Grin

Buggerthebotox · 30/03/2021 10:21

Try again..regarding the visit Kat made to another officer in s3 - I don't think that was Wise but another officer played by Sharon Duce. Another officer who can't be a mason!

As I recall, masonry was explored as an angle when Steve saw Ted and Fairbank in a masonic handshake. On the other hand Ted can't be a mason apparently because he's Catholic.

Not sure if this was another red herring but useful background to Wise's promotion (ie she's a woman, so can't be a mason). So if she's bent, it's not because she's a mason!

I might have to listen again. I couldn't make it out, but just assumed it might be Nige due to his involvement with journalists.

Is Lakewell still behind bars?

WeeGobshiteBentBastard · 30/03/2021 10:30

Maybe it's Fairbanks on the audiotape with Vella?

LolaVsPowerman · 30/03/2021 10:32

I only listened once, but I’ve seen The Office enough to (maybe 😬) recognise that voice 😁

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/03/2021 10:59

@Piggywaspushed

Holla, in about series two we were briefly told Steve's backstory about his childhood. they could ahve edited it out and left him Scottish but they didn't so English he had to be!

ps I hate the term Weegie. As you were.

How do you feel about the term "Edinbugger"?
IntermittentParps · 30/03/2021 11:15

I can't believe after Ryan's years with the ocg he still got in the police. Even without actual previous convictions you'd think he'd have had plenty of cautions for petty crime before he moved on to throat slitting.
I think someone bent and high up got him in.

ChequerBoard · 30/03/2021 11:30

I'm spending too much time disappearing down the LoD rabbit hole! But it's just occurred to me that Jo and everyone in the MIT at the Hill know that Kate is ex AC12.

Why then would the OGC take the risk of having their mole Ryan placed in the MIT, right under the nose of someone who could easily identify him?

Mayzee · 30/03/2021 11:35

Did anyone listen to the ‘Obsessed with Line of Duty’ podcast - they were talking about how it’s likely time for one of the main characters to meet their demise Shock I can’t cope with that but I do think it’s being set up for Steve Sad

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 30/03/2021 11:39

Nige had a distinctive accent - Potteries/West Midlands I'd say. I.e. Neil Morrissey's accent. The voice on the recording didn't have that accent.

Because they think they are sufficiently well in to get away with whatever they want. They been a presence in numerous AC12 cases and are still going and are still one step ahead.
