@Dailyhandtowelwash

It’s also very Jill Dando, including the ‘oddball’ comment,
Agreed. That was my immediate thought.

I also agree that KMcD is a bit poor. I’m finding her kind of one-dimensional. Yo the OP who said she’s like Lorraine Kelly; she’s a Weedgie, not a Dundonian. I keep waiting for Compston to have accent wander when he speaks to her. I never understand why he can’t be Scottish anyway. It’s not like we ever move to anywhere else....

TedisnotH · 29/03/2021 00:13

The voice on the tape sounded like Jimmy the Solicitor, pal of Ros Huntley and her Husband, also in OCG.

banano · 29/03/2021 00:15

I’m 90% sure the male voice on the tape was Jimmy Lakewell- I’ve watched The Office so many times that I’d recognise the actor’s (Patrick Baladi) voice anywhere.

Ooh such a good theory re Chloe! I feel that age gap might not work (seem to remember Gates’ daughter being younger), but would love it to be true.

Agree with Kate being undercover but for another AC unit. Anna Maxwell Martin’s character was so fantastic last season that I’d be surprised if they didn’t bring her back again.

Did anyone else feel the look between Jo and Hastings on the stairs before her interview was very meaningful? My brain randomly jumped to her being his daughter (plus possible connection with Marie) but that feels like a huge stretch! Watching this show is definitely making me consider some really outlandish theories...

Bloodypunkrockers · 29/03/2021 00:22

Just watched the episode again

Yes 💯 agree that is Jimmy Lakewell on the tape

I agree. I thought it was Patrick Baladi's voice straight away.

CherryValanc · 29/03/2021 00:26

Who's Chole? I mean why are we discussing her - which character is she in this series?

Also who's Nige? Only Nige I remember was in Love/ Hate!!

That's all I can contribute for the moment

TedisnotH · 29/03/2021 00:29

He has a lovely voice

Miraloma · 29/03/2021 00:30

Genuinely thought he'd sat on a massive diamond ring or something equally expensive

Chloe Bishop the bright PS who was in the interview with Ted and Steve

BeaLola · 29/03/2021 00:40

A small thing but I don't understand why when interviewed Jo wouldn't give up name of senior who signed off incorrectly on the surveillance ? Surely AC12 would have the paperwork as exhibit 16 in the folder or whatever and the document would be signed by Buckells ?

I didn't think it was a particularly large tv Grin

Re Ryan - I think it's his surname "Pilkington" that made Kate stop and think - tbh I keep having to stop the iplayer to remind DH who people are / tell DH my theories and I only binge watched 1-5 in February/early March so should be more up to speed ...

Whoever made that forgot that Hilton took the Laverty case off Gates and gave it up Buckells. I always thought this was because Buckells was incompetent but now thinking twice.

@Tedisateddybear

I think Steve visited Steph because he saw she had visited Ted at work and they were having a hush-hush conversation. Steve doesn't know that Ted bunged her the £50k but I think his questioning of Steph about the TV and the sports package was more about him thinking that Steph has got a new bloke and he thinks it might be Ted.

I can't remember exactly, but didn't Steve say his painkillers were in the side pocket in his car, so why did Steph open the glove box? No doubt his addiction to painkillers is going to be used against him at some point. At the moment it seems that Steph and Steve have a good relationship in as much as she is grateful for what Steve did for Corbett at the time. I wonder if something will cause their relationship to sour and Steph will use this info against him.

I think you might be Jed Mercurio. I claim my £5.

@PussyCatEatingEasterEggs

I don't like them mixing fact and fiction.

Saville is too low to go.

Only just watched this episode and catching up on the thread but yes, I find it a bit weird. Real criminal with real victims potentially watching. I vaguely remember a mention in series 3 and being surprised by it.
SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 02:45

Right I’ve caught up now.
I can’t remember this Lakewell lawyer guy - how was he involved in a previous series? S4 was it? I’m too scared to google in case of accidental IMDb spoilers 😳

Wow at the Chloe possibility - you lot have great memories. It would be weird if nobody knew who her dad was when she was recruited though (but then if Ryan got in...)

Someone mentioned Doctor Foster on an earlier page, I need to know why :o

Vellas former colleague that Arnott and Chloe interviewed is James from Doctor Foster.

Lakewell was Roz Huntleys lawyer, he was representing Michael Farmer in series 4

HariboFrenzy · 29/03/2021 03:31

Totally irrelevant, but any time Buckells name is mentioned I get an image of Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog.

As you were fellas.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/03/2021 03:38

No he said his car keys were in his inside pocket. (I've watched it twice)

I think Farida is innocent and Kate, having smelled several rats, is doing her own UC investigations but is not part of anything official.

SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 03:47

Aha! Thanks. I totally missed that.

makingababy · 29/03/2021 04:21

@MrsJackRackham

Maybe it's because I'm Scottish and can pick up nuances in the accent but Kelly Macdonald's acting is really poor. Her inflections are all wrong and it sounds really unnatural. And I usually like her as an actress.
Agreed that she sounds unnatural but I think she’s probably been coached to try to tone down her accent (and slow her speech) for the non-Scottish audience. I still think she’s interesting to watch so far 😊
Schoolissues1 · 29/03/2021 04:30

Is it just me or does Steve remind you of Gary Barlow?

Piggywaspushed · 29/03/2021 06:59

Holla, in about series two we were briefly told Steve's backstory about his childhood. they could ahve edited it out and left him Scottish but they didn't so English he had to be!

ps I hate the term Weegie. As you were.

Piggywaspushed · 29/03/2021 07:01

I'll be amazed if Chloe is Tony's daughter. Surely they just went for a common name for a woman in her 20s?

Whatwouldscullydo · 29/03/2021 07:10

I watched an old one last night to remind myself what happened with that accident.

I plan on starting from the beginning today. I had to laugh when one if the other officers was speaking to a young women and they were joking about getting a drink of they jumped into eachother in a club. He later told Steve he had no intention of doing so and how its a bit desperate. Steve's face..Grin

They definitely have forgotten how to act this season in a good way though its making it a but more relatable and amusing. But I do think that's why it's harder to follow than usual as well theres no consistency and it's far harder to have any hunches.

I think jo thinks she's being clever but she's being played too. I think she will go crawling back to Farida for help
