It’s back!!! Now with extra added Alan Carr!!!

Starts tonight. I didn’t find the first series until well after it finished and binge watched it, enjoyed following the thread on here as I did so but I was way behind the time to contribute anything.

Looking forward to enjoying this series hopefully with some viper chatter as we go along. Come on in, all opinions welcome!

She’s a fan of Michelle though.
It’s not actually that bad a review.

We saw them filming an upcoming episode locally in October. We chatted to Alan and sat watching the filming. He is bonkers!! I got quite excited when I recognised the designers. Had a little chat with Lisa Armstrong too who did the makeup

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/02/2021 23:00

That was really interesting reading the blog posts. £1,500 and a week to source (during a pandemic) is quite a stretch.

Also hadn't thought about the point that if you don't get to be on the sofa you don't hear any feedback so some designers didn't necessarily learn from their mistakes as they are oblivious to what the judges thought until after the show has aired.

WingingItSince1973 · 03/02/2021 23:17

@covetingthepreciousthings yes I felt that too. Its obvious they edit these kind of programmes to give the contestants a certain vibe. It makes people want to keep watching to see how it plays out. I love her Instagram account as I'm passionate about art. They all seem to say lovely things about each other. Yes I've done alot of stalking tonight 🤣

Lurleene · 04/02/2021 08:54

I'm reading Michelle's book at the moment, Happy Inside, so I googled to find out a bit more about her. On her website she has a very in depth account of her life and journey through the various homes she has lived in. I found it very interesting, she comes across very differently to when she is in judging mode. She pinched her cutlery when she was a waitress years ago, for starters. Here's the link if you are interested About Michelle Ogundehin

WingingItSince1973 · 04/02/2021 11:53

Thanks @Lurleen will have a read of that xx

WingingItSince1973 · 04/02/2021 11:54

@Lurleene sorry my brain is foggy today xxx

LemonViolet · 04/02/2021 12:19

Interesting Lurleene how are you finding it? Is it personal or is it more home/design advice?

I’m currently reading the “little book of colour” by Karen Haller as part of my interior design prep for our new house!

I love this show!
Charlotte does seem awful, the editing may have made it worse, but didn’t put words in her mouth. She is so negative and rude to the lovely carpenter.

Standrewsschool · 04/02/2021 20:43

Just caught up with this thread. Loved some rooms, others not so keen. Can’t really remember who was who now.

However, did anyone else think the lounges were very box-y. The only window was the small patio doors on the corner. It was all a bit claustrophobic. The lounges that worked for me were those who had a picture or design feature on the far wall.

I did also think the lounge designers had more scope to be creative. There’s not a lot you can do with a bedroom.

Lurleene · 04/02/2021 21:43

You're welcome WingingItSince1973 Smile

LemonViolet Michelle's book is an interiors book, written with the emphasis on creating a happy harmonious environment to live in. I am enjoying it but I have borrowed it from the library as an ebooks and I think have preferred to read it in hardback, it seems like a nice book to sit and flick through of an evening.

ppeatfruit · 06/02/2021 11:06

So is it worth watching, do you all think? Is AC a good addition? They're obviously doing a Bake Off type comedic thing with him. I'm not so sure about him . Fearne was ok but a bit vanilla.

Cocolapew · 06/02/2021 11:41

Alan was quite restrained tbh , he didn't take it over.

PuppyMonkey · 06/02/2021 11:42

Yes it's definitely still worth watching. I literally have no opinion on Alan Carr's presence on the show or not, I barely clocked he was in it tbh, I was more interested in what the contestants were doing/saying and what LLB and Michelle thought of the rooms.

In fact, it's only because people mentioned it on this thread that I even recalled Fearne hosted it last time.

It doesn't actually need a host imho. Could just do with someone narrating it and then Michelle announces who's being kicked out anyway, so ditch the host. Sorted.

covetingthepreciousthings · 06/02/2021 11:59

@ppeatfruit I think it's definitely worth watching, and agree that Alan Carr didn't take over, it seems to be very much a back seat hosting job rather than a main one if that makes sense.

Coatandhat · 06/02/2021 16:01

Does anyone know where the beds in the show homes (Episode 1) were from?

dillite · 06/02/2021 19:24

I just caught up on episode 1! It was fabulous. Oh how I missed the show.

Also, I am loving the new carpenter 😉

ppeatfruit · 07/02/2021 09:48

Thanks for the info (nice to see an old name coveting Grin

Oddly I came across the repeat last evening. I liked it (esp AC) better than Fearne IMO. Also it's good to have some proper disagreements between the judges LLB is great, he doesn't take himself seriously,

Puppy The host is on the side of the contestants and I think is needed Grin. The show would be too cold otherwise.

ageingdisgracefully · 07/02/2021 11:51

I enjoyed this better than the last series. I think the standard is highervalready. Still missing the presence of Tom Dyckhoff though. Sad

Puffinhead · 07/02/2021 15:17

I’ve just watched this on catch on after seeing Alan Carr talk about it on Graham Norton. Really enjoyed it.

I’m actually thinking about decorating my living room at the moment (so watching for inspiration) but I always seems to struggle when choosing curtains that actually go with the wall colour. I now know what to do - I’ll just paint the curtains to match! Grin

LemonViolet · 07/02/2021 17:06

Yeah, they didn’t actually follow up on how the painted curtains turned out, did they?!? Well only having 1 hr and ten rooms couldn’t see judges appraisal on every little detail but that one was commented on big style by AC would have been good to see what Michelle and LLB thought of the finish!

Yes they did comment on it. They didn’t slam it as much as I expected them to but LLB said it didn’t really work.
