It’s back!!! Now with extra added Alan Carr!!!

Starts tonight. I didn’t find the first series until well after it finished and binge watched it, enjoyed following the thread on here as I did so but I was way behind the time to contribute anything.

Looking forward to enjoying this series hopefully with some viper chatter as we go along. Come on in, all opinions welcome!

Just for you I just checked.
Michelle said “I think the window treatment lets the room down” and LLB said “Nice idea with the curtains but there is no authority to that painterly expression” (whatever that meant Grin).

LemonViolet · 07/02/2021 19:26

Oh! I think I thought that LLB comment was about the giant canvas propped against the wall.

Thanks!

Well IMO they weren't impressed by the curtains OR the propped painting! Neither was I ! Those curtains looked shit, the paint would eventually flake off.

covetingthepreciousthings · 09/02/2021 10:05

Sorry don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I was interested on one of the blogs to read that they can't get actual paintings because of copyright issues, which surprised me a bit as I always thought they just wanted to save money / show off their arty talents and paint their own Grin (loved Alan's face when his portrait was revealed last week).

Charlottes new blog is up now!

APurpleSquirrel · 09/02/2021 10:29

DH & I watched it a few days ago & my opinion of Charlotte is completely different! To me she was the put-upon partner, she loaned out her decorator to her partner (Michelle?) & they were monopolised by them so Charlotte had to do everything herself. Then we she clearly got annoyed & asked the carpenter in as again he'd been monopolised by her partner, she was cast as the villain. Yes, some of the stuff she asked him to do was minor but the way I saw it Charlotte hadn't had any help for the entire duration - as her partners design was so ambitious (interior frame etc) she needed all the help. Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick??

icelollycraving · 09/02/2021 15:13

Her blog sounds more perky than she appeared. I also thought she seemed frustrated that her partner had such an ambitious theme requiring more help. I liked the blue behind the bed but it was nothing special.
The room that I thought fitted the brief best was the living room was the man with a lot of fake tan.
I thought the living room view was so lovely that I’d have played on those green colours more.
Love Alan Carr. I’d like him to be my best friend.

covetingthepreciousthings · 09/02/2021 19:18

Think it's offices tonight!

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2021 19:35

Ooh! Really interesting blogpost you linked to there, coveting ! Good detail on the brief, but I wish they'd say how long the room was expected to 'last' for -ie was it being dressed solely for sale and then the elements chucked/reused, or was there to be some element of durability? I always think this about all the commercial challenges.

I didn't know that about the artwork- and it actually looks good in the room. In fact the photos on the blog are really flattering. Except for the bespoke print fabric blind, as the print just looks like a REALLY menacingly angry owl.

Somewhere further down the thread there's a link to the actual sale listings for the houses and it appears they didn't use any of them for the brochure or for the show homes so presume it all got chucked / redecorated! It would be interesting to know what happens to any of the bought items though.. hopefully it'll get mentioned in another blog.

I know with previous series, people have found links to the hotels / shops that have had a makeover and some of the styling has been kept and others completely redone. Which I always find interesting to see (they never show this on the program though!).

LemonViolet · 09/02/2021 19:56

Ok I’m settled in :-)

Offices? God, SO 2019.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2021 20:06

A curtain. Imagine that wafting around, annoying you all day.

Graphista · 09/02/2021 20:19

I'm late to the party but after catching the end of the first episode by accident and then seeing Alan Carr plugging it on Graham Norton I was intrigued.

I'm absolutely USELESS at diy myself but I am good at colour and figuring out ways to use space due to necessity (I've mostly lived in forces and otherwise rented accommodation where I wasn't allowed to decorate the walls or change lighting etc but you do want to make it your own in other ways so lots of experience of using free standing items to best utilise or even divide spaces up)

So I'm coming from a place of understanding small spaces, using colour and tricks like strategic mirror placement to make it feel bigger etc.

But also love the psychology of shows like this with the competitive elements which can lead to contestants making bonkers risky decisions to try and "stand out" and then coming a cropper - nothing wrong with a touch of schadenfreude! Grin

Arrivederla · 09/02/2021 20:20

Bleurgh - that orange colour! Shock

dillite · 09/02/2021 20:22

Oh no, I missed the first 20 minutes to Dr Who 😡

LemonViolet · 09/02/2021 20:23

Black and yellow = danger/warning! Surely? I love yellow, but not convinced of that colour with black in that environment

love it
dillite · 09/02/2021 20:26

Nooooo! Stop painting fabric people! Especially using paint that's not madenfor fabric.

LemonViolet · 09/02/2021 20:27

Oh god why do they always insist on painting fabric on these things?!? Who wants to sit on a painted chair.

OP posts:
dillite · 09/02/2021 20:28

How do they all manage to stay looking decent after doing this much manual work/ sweating?

LemonViolet · 09/02/2021 20:28

Love the wood in the beauty office though, and the green/pink one as well

OP posts:
dillite · 09/02/2021 20:30

How is it working tonight? Is there a lead designer and then others get to do their own bits here and there? Or are fhey all doing their own thing and are hoping that it will all fit together?

LemonViolet · 09/02/2021 20:32

They’re each responsible for their own zone of each office but have to work together. Some teams are being more team like and others have self-appointed leader!

I like Charlotte’s mural but expect it will be marmite! Love it on the ceiling.
