Is it not the most moving tv series in a long time? I've sat here tonight wiping tears away and am not normally the overly emotional type...

Currently also crying a little after finishing the last episode.
So yanbu

StillMedusa · 28/01/2021 00:08

Absolutely brilliant. But generally anything written by Russell T Davies is...!

40somethingJBJ · 28/01/2021 00:10

One of the best things I’ve seen in a long time. I cried buckets throughout it all and really cared about the characters. Last time I got into something like this was Years and Years, also by Russell T Davies.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 28/01/2021 00:15

Britbox has Bob and Rose, children's ward, Queer as folk and dr who.

But this was so very good.
Both to relive what was wonderful about that time and that scene and also for the research and the avoidance of simplistic 2d tropes.

sandybeaches74 · 28/01/2021 00:34

@SuperLoudPoppingAction yes I agree... so many wonderful aspects too. I was born in the early 80s but was part of a clubbing scene in late 90s and draw so many comparisons with some of the relationships portrayed. The whole thing was excellent!

I thought it was so very moving and a bit of an eye opener. I remember seeing the Ads as a teenager but as you do at that age, didn't give it much thought at the time.

Willyoujustbequiet · 28/01/2021 01:42

Whilst excellent viewing was anyone else uncomfortable when he admitted knowingly infecting people and no one really taking issue with it?

A bit yes. But these were such different times.

Unprecedented. Hindsight 40 years later is a wonderful thing 🤷‍♀️

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 28/01/2021 08:46

I think it was important for the character. Otherwise he was a wee cherub with no flaws whatsoever. And Jill did talk about it later, to his mum.
I think there seemed to be a purpose to everything and that part was important because it linked shame and denial to harm.

contrmary · 28/01/2021 08:49

Haven't seen it, but still decided to post.

user1468105798 · 28/01/2021 08:57

Brilliant writing and acting. I was invested in the characters and yes I cried several times.

lyralalala · 28/01/2021 09:07

I bubbled my eyes out several times. It was fantastically well written

They were all so lovable, especially Colin and his mum 🥺 . I was astonished by the way he was treated in the hospital , I really hope that was exaggerated. Jill was an absolute angel omg.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 28/01/2021 11:25

Early on, there really were some shocking examples of dehumanising practice towards AIDS patients.

MrDarcysMa · 28/01/2021 11:43

Heartbreaking isn't it.
I understand that feeling of fear and panic of the unknown though, especially in Covid times. Bottom line is they didn't understand transmission at first and rumours were flying around everywhere so the throwing cups away doesn't seem to silly when you think about it.

desperatehousewife2 · 28/01/2021 22:09

I finished watching it this evening and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I keep thinking about all those men, some of them so young who were abandoned by families and died alone. God I really have to stop thinking about it.

Isadora2007 · 28/01/2021 22:12

It was amazing and moving and I just loved it.

Wendyhause · 28/01/2021 22:46

Tonight I finished watching ep1 and will watch more tomorrow night. I am old enough to remember the Aids era and the horror of it all.
Young people just having an absolute ball while away from home and living life to the full. How ironic and sad.

ButterfliesandMoths · 29/01/2021 01:51

I binge watched this today. I laughed & I cried.
Powerful story, wonderfully acted I thoroughly enjoyed.

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/01/2021 13:03

I've just finished ep 2, it's heart breaking. Poor lovely Henry. And Gloria, why did they need to burn his baby photos? Tragic.

BestIsWest · 29/01/2021 18:46

We’ve watched ep 1. Brought back so many memories of those times.

mothtoaflame · 29/01/2021 21:01

I thought it was one of the most beautiful but utterly heartbreaking things I've watched for a long time. So pleased the story has been told. We need to be reminded of how things were, and how attitudes still need to change.

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/01/2021 22:33

Binge watched it all today. So sad and so terrible that those parents couldn't accept their children the way they were.

CormoranStrike · 29/01/2021 22:37

Just finished this tonight - oh it is a tragic tale, told so very, very well.

This story is the backdrop to my teenage years; I remember it so clearly, and the music helps bring it all hurtling back.

And now, as the mother of a gay man, it breaks my heart all over again.

Those poor men, their poor families.
