Is anyone watching it out of all the bad press she gets you can see she really cares about Harvey

OP posts:
W3dontdoduvets · 28/01/2021 14:59

What a great programme. I’ve been thinking about it lots this week, Katie is a wonderful mother, all the children are delightful and caring. Harvey is so polite and their bond is heartwarming. Just goes to show we don’t know everything about a person.

SoupDragon · 28/01/2021 16:11

I read today that Network Rail have invited him in to do a train announcement (when restrictions are lifted)

AlternativePerspective · 28/01/2021 16:32

So glad this thread hasn’t gone the same way as the other one.

TBH I am no fan of KP but the bond between her and Harvey is undeniable. As someone said elsewhere, if she didn’t have such a bond with him she would never be able to de-escalate his behaviours so quickly.

It just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how much you have or how famous you are, life still happens.

Twospaniels · 28/01/2021 17:48

I loved this. It had me welling up several times. I particularly liked when Harvey was leaving his tour of the college that he thanked the staff member for coming 😁

That's brill. I hope his friend Zac gets invited too as he loved trains also and was also good with the announcements.

I have just watched it and it was so heart warming. She’s a brilliant mother to that young man and he’s as lucky to have her as his advocate, as she is to have him as a son.

He seems like such a sweetheart and I love how she fiercely protects him. You know that she will always fight for what’s best for Harvey.

The way she calms him down is so heartwarming as he really listens to her and gets comfort by her voice. Such a loving strong bond. She’s an amazing mum!

I really hope Harvey gets in to that school 🤞🤞🤞such a deserving young man!

Katie is a lovely parent to Harvey.

The programme was great, really highlight not only her story, but other parents going through the same decisions.

It is much kinder getting a young adult into some form of residential accommodation while you're still alive, rather than them having to do it when their parent/carer dies and they have to go in as an emergency. It's not about that parent/carer giving up on them.

Whitecup4 · 28/01/2021 19:34

I don’t like Katie and I’m not a fan of her at all, I think she is a bit of a car crash in my mind. However saw her on bbc news the other day and it’s clear if there is one thing she has done right it’s being right there by Harvey’s side.....credit to her, as children come first and that is what she has done.

Still not a fan, but do think she is a half decent parent.

louise4745 · 28/01/2021 22:11

Half decent Hmm

Hueandcry · 28/01/2021 22:34

@Whitecup4

That's all us parents of young people with Autism & other issues need, being called 'half decent' by judgy pants like you. FML

winterchills · 28/01/2021 22:39

What channel is this on?

SoupDragon · 28/01/2021 22:47

It was on BBC1

BenoneBeauty · 28/01/2021 22:48

BBC

Cocopogo · 28/01/2021 22:58

I’m not a fan. I don’t think all credit goes to her at all as it’s well documented how many times she left Harvey and went swanning off with her latest fellas etc. For Christ sake she left him and went swanning off to Australia for a few weeks! People with autism often need routine and stability more than most, it’s bloody hard but I don’t think she’s put Harvey’s needs first most of his life. However it’s great that she’s shining a light on the UK system of learning disabilities college which in my opinion needs overhauling, I think it’s an absolute shame that young people turn 19 and are often forced to move home and school all in one go, everything they’ve ever known, gone.

AdditionalCharacter · 28/01/2021 23:59

I'm sure she didn't just leave him to it, or do it on a whim. It's her job, how else is she meant to make money?

Also, as my post above states, it is far better moving your child out when you're still alive, where you can still visit and be their advocate for their needs, make sure they're in the right setting, rather than them having to do it as soon as you die, because then your child is likely to get stuck in an emergency setting, followed by a very long process of finding where has spaces that'll be able to take them, all while grieving and possibly not understanding where their loved ones have gone.

salsmum · 29/01/2021 02:32

The college that they saw second ( National Star) my daughter attended its amazing and set in beautiful ground too in Gloucestershire. Harvey will have an amazing time there, great show I loved it.

Skipsurvey · 29/01/2021 07:38

most 19 year olds change their education setting, and plenty change their home, why shouldnt Harvey

so did mine. it is an amazing place. a few years back there was a 3 part tv show about Star and some of the students, it was the making of my dd. they do so much to help the students settle, even having a stars of the future, where the young people go there for a few days.
BejeweledCrocs · 29/01/2021 07:54

She is amazing. She has brought up all her kids to be good people. Seeing Harvey and the little one watching peppa pig made my heart glow.

I remember being impressed by her mum in an older documentary. I just think they seem like a supportive unit of strong women. Wonderful.

TinaTurnercorner · 29/01/2021 21:06

I was shocked by the section I'd no idea you lost all parental rights.

^^This is disgusting! NO WAY will I let ANYONE tell me anything about MY kids are NOT MY rights.

Over my bloody dead body.

Cocopogo · 29/01/2021 23:03

@TinaTurnercorner meanwhile back in the real world, it won’t be your dead body just be prison. One thing you learn when you’ve had dealings is from the minute your child is born the government has control and social services or the courts can swoop for a range of reasons totally out of your control.

Crikeycroc · 30/01/2021 01:52

I’m curious as to why so many posters are quick the state that they’re not KP fans?

PrimalLass · 30/01/2021 02:13

I know. It's a shame. I'm now a huge fan.

I think it’s her image and people judge her based upon that. Her life in the media and several different men.

I have always liked her and watched Katie’s show even when she was married to Pete.

4redSocks · 30/01/2021 02:38

@Emeraldshamrock

Isn’t this the case for any section regardless of if you have a disability. The section always overrides?
