It’s cold, dark and there’s a pandemic but one bright light is the new series of drag race tomorrow. The last series was so joyful and really put British drag back on the map. I hope this series is just as good

Already love Ginny Lemon, who are your picks to win

Also what's Michelle visage's history? Obvs she's not a queen / what/ who is she ?!

FredaFox · 15/02/2021 08:00

Michelle is one of Rus best friends of 30 years, she was in a girl band in America back in the day

I hadn't really considered it too much before H&M gate.. but do the queens literally fund everything for the show themselves?

If so, I agree with the poster who said they should be given an equal budget.. otherwise it is unfair if some have more access to funds to afford the best.

Yes they do They are told in advance what week they will be doing what but yes I do believe they fund it themselves. So someone like Awhora (who signed with Elite Models during the 7 month break) clearly has access to more cash and better outlets for outfits than others.
BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/02/2021 12:49

Re Michelle Visage, she was involved in the Ball Scene in New York in the 80s/90s IIRC?

The money issue was something that becomes apparent sometimes - surely queens with more money can afford to have better outfits made? I would agree that there should be a set limit and then you'd really see who is the most creative within a budget.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 15/02/2021 13:43

I guess that's where things like the sewing challenges come in.

DioneTheDiabolist · 15/02/2021 13:57

I was so disappointed with Joe Black. I'm sure his actual show is amazing and I would have loved to see him show his stuff, but he didn't seem able to put that across on RPDR.

The H&M dress was appalling and Ru was right to give a stern telling off.

Purplestorm83 · 15/02/2021 14:51

You guys have probably all seen it but I thought I’d stick it here just in case - on iPlayer there’s an amazing documentary called Deep in Vogue about the northern vogue scene, one of the artists featured is Astina Mandela.

I haven't see this, thanks!

I've only just found Drag SOS on 4 player which also features Asstina.

Agree. Even on a budget he could have done more with the dress than plain black boots and those bloody gross gloves! Big feather collar/ head piece/ something around the waist/ proper lace gloves, ANYTHING other than old wool gloves and boring chunky boots ?!
Bloodypunkrockers · 15/02/2021 18:38

Where's the lockdown episode.

Looked on iplayer but couldn't see it

MrDarcysMa · 15/02/2021 20:44

It's called 'queens on lockdown' @Bloodypunkrockers

Bloodypunkrockers · 15/02/2021 21:05

Thank you MrDarcysMa

Purplestorm83 · 16/02/2021 01:01

OMG I watched that when it was on originally - is Asstina the amazing choreographer on there?!? May need to watch it again!

iklboo · 16/02/2021 19:19

Has anyone seen Dancing Queen? Reality TV show about a dance troupe led by Alyssa Edwards? It's brutal.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/02/2021 16:42

I enjoyed the short Queens in Lockdown, nice little insight into their lives (albeit at home!). I enjoyed seeing Bimini with their £12 chair, made me wonder if i should take up chair-robics Grin

I really felt for the ones who were struggling with no income.

I agree with whoever up thread mentioned they thought Tayce had star quality, I completely agree, I can't really put my finger on it, but there's just something about her.

What can I watch it on?
MrDarcysMa · 17/02/2021 18:11

Just watching the vogue thing on player. Loving it.

iklboo · 17/02/2021 18:34

@MrDarcysMa - it's on Netflix. Lots of family stuff with Justin (Alyssa out of drag) & his family, the children, their batshit mums, Alyssa segments. Really enjoyed it.

Ulysses · 17/02/2021 18:47

I said that about Tayce @covetingthepreciousthings. I think they seem at ease with themselves in a way that so many of the Queens aren't. Has the looks too.

Bimini's become a real grower on me as the show has progressed, not so much with their act but more their comments and interactions with the others.

iklboo · 17/02/2021 19:40

I could see Tayce in Everybody's Talking About Jamie or something like that.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/02/2021 20:11

Was anyone else surprised that A'Whora had said that they weren't taken seriously as a designer / couldn't get into that as a career because of being a drag Queen?

I don't know why but it really surprised me that it would be so frowned upon (if that's the right word)?

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/02/2021 20:12

Yes, I really enjoy their looks on the runway too.

Meanwhile, Sister hasn't grown on me at all unfortunately, wouldn't mind if they left tomorrow.

iklboo · 17/02/2021 20:35

Yes we thought so too @covetingthepreciousthings - especially as the fashion world has a huge LGBTQ+ following and many fashion employees are part of the community. And other drag queens work in fashion too.

MrDarcysMa · 18/02/2021 11:03

Agree re Bimini!
I love them now, think they're so beautiful. I thought they looked a bit grimy at first.
They seem to have their head screwed on.

On another note, over on the feminist boards. Drag is very controversial. I didn't know that. There's a thread kicking off about romesh trying drag for his new show.
