Anyone else watching?

New series started tonight. Bonkers toff from SW London wants to convert a building in a cemetery.

I watched Ep 1 last night and I’ve just watched Ep 2. Loved them both.
Justin was just gloriously bonkers - and really rather attractive! The end result was amazing. And I didn’t expect to like the new bit, but he pulled it off so well. The stone staircase was wonderful and I loved the chainmail swimming pool.

Greg and Georgie - just wow. I have to confess shedding a little tear at the end. Two lovely people who have clearly overcome so much, and still are doing so. What a triumph on so many levels. I hope they get to enjoy their lovely new house for a very long time.

TodgerStrunk · 23/01/2021 14:01

That wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The staircase had gates either end. I'm sure they will fence the flood pit, and get fire guards - and get a door for the toilet! That was a step too far for me, particularly with the dressing room next door even having a door.

redcandlelight · 23/01/2021 19:42

I liked the 'dutch barn' house.
fitted right in with the flood pond Wink
not sure about the decor though.

jamesfailedmarshmallows · 24/01/2021 17:11

Just watched Nathan and Amy, he seemed more passionate about his mum than he did Amy or the baby.

chuckyegg2 · 24/01/2021 17:21

Loving the series so far.

Half way through episode 3. Did anyone else think when Kevin was talking to Nathan’s mum and dad in the caravan and made a joke about them being close by for babysitting, his Mum looked totally bemused as though she didn’t know about the new baby coming??!!

MaxRushden · 24/01/2021 17:41

Yes! I noticed her expression- very odd!

jamesfailedmarshmallows · 24/01/2021 17:46

There was a scene in the parents' annexe where the baby was cooing and the step grandfather turned and engaged with her, but the grandmother almost gave her a dirty look. Quite an odd family!

EssentiallyDelighted · 24/01/2021 18:55

Yes, I noticed that with Nathan's mum. I thought maybe she didn't know about the baby too

gingercat02 · 25/01/2021 13:22

Nathan's mum definitely didn't appear to connect with the baby at all. Perhaps pp who suspected Amy was the OW was right. I liked the house but really not small child friendly imo

Chambored · 25/01/2021 15:57

The Dutch barn house was huge. Obscenely so. And most unattractive. I had high hopes for it when I saw the steel shell and the tiles etc.... Yet it just didn’t work when it came together, it was just too clunky.

Cornetttttto · 27/01/2021 16:36

I watched an episode last night, this chap built a lighthouse, got into debt and then lost his marriage. Bleak.

Cruddles · 27/01/2021 17:55

That's one of the worst ones I've seen, and from what i understand the shell is still there ruining a beautiful piece of coastline

Cornetttttto · 27/01/2021 19:14

It was awful. Interesting that only one of the daughters was present. I can't get my head around the thought process that goes into choosing to spend an astronomical sum and then willingingly get further into debt.

viques · 27/01/2021 21:50

Oh dear, I think poor Margarita is running scared that he is going to suddenly decide that the only furniture fitting for the new house will be handcrafted from wood from their wood.!

Cruddles · 27/01/2021 22:01

I liked the eco house, looked good

viques · 27/01/2021 22:02

Thankyou Kevin, stick to the day job dear. Sinatra has left the building.

viques · 27/01/2021 22:05

The house looked fine Cruddles, it was the owner, who was erm, intense would be one word.

I couldn’t work out if they would be allowed to open the windows in summer or would that affect the heat collection.

LarsErickssong · 27/01/2021 22:05

I'm glad she got the interior she wanted in the end, minus the sofas in the snug Grin.
I really enjoyed tonight's but now I really want to visit to feel just how warm it feels. Obviously 13 degrees isn't warm at all in a normal house but it can't be that cold as they are managing to live there? Also very impressed that they came in only £10k over budget, I think that's the closest I have ever seen a build come to budget.

LarsErickssong · 27/01/2021 22:06

@viques I was thinking the same about summer, it will be unbearable with all that glass if they can't open the windows!

Chambored · 27/01/2021 22:22

Ha ha - that bit made me laugh!

I liked the house.
I was pleased he achieved his eco-dreams and his experiment paid off, and she got the aesthetic look she wanted.
Good point about the windows in summer though....

redsquirrelfan · 28/01/2021 08:10

I can't believe the budget was only £10K over. I wondered if that was for the build but not the fit-out. It was so high spec, I can't see how it only cost that much for the build and the interior!

redsquirrelfan · 28/01/2021 08:12

Also wondered about the windows in summer and if it would be too warm.

Did anyone watch Love it or List it beforehand? Interesting that they finally got the house that they'd seen 3 years before.

Yes I watched the last 15 minutes, I really liked what they had done to the original house but the garden in the new house was amazing! I just couldn't understand moving to a bigger house when it sounded like the kids had left for uni?
Fizbosshoes · 28/01/2021 08:50

Going back to last weeks episode, I didnt watch the whole thing but nearly every house on GD has a wall if glass usually that comes from Germany, took up a third of the budget and weighs 5 tons.

I'm not a fan of huge expanses of glass because I like privacy and I imagine them getting dirty and they dont usually lend themselves to any sort if curtain or blind. However usually on GD they live in the middle of nowhere so potentially wouldnt matter if you were walking about in your underwear in front of your 30ft window. I was quite surprised how open the window was to the road.i think they did have some curtains though.
And the idea of an ensuite with only half a wall and no door is IMO awful. (But better than one I saw in a local house for sale that was described as "open plan ensuite" and was basically a shower and loo in the bedroom without any sort of partition!!Confused)

Cruddles · 28/01/2021 09:13

I'm wondering if the windows just had to be shut for those first two summers of construction as they built the heat up? If they need to stay shut constantly then that would be awful
