Anyone watching.

I do like the way they make these programmes (and 24 hours in A&E). This thread has cleared up a few questions for me - I wondered why Earl had so many people in the interview room and I wasn't sure why she didn't have a solicitor. The gluten shenanigans was pretty funny.

BUT WHERE DID SHE GET THAT MONEY?

And, how on earth could she not have been charged with anything over the arson attack?

Winniewonka · 06/01/2021 14:52

I think the police had infinite patience with her despite knowing she was trying to control the situation. They did everything by the book regarding her health. They DID bring her a gluten free sandwich which she then refused as she had neglected to tell them she was a vegetarian!

Edgeoftheledge · 06/01/2021 15:10

Ive only watched part one, looking forward to second part. She is such a bad actress. Totally gobsmacked about the car fire.. her daughter could of been killed or maimed.
Shes very dangerous

Kanaloa · 06/01/2021 15:11

It was crazy. How did she get all that hidden money without anyonr ever noticing? If it came out if benefits or her wages surely it would have been missed when it came to paying bills. And I think she lost all credibility about being desperate to see her daughter when it came out about the arson attack.

Cocolapew · 06/01/2021 15:24

She was a nightmare, I really surprised she didn't have a "seizure" at some point.

I cant remember who asked but its on Channel 4 and 24 houres in A&E and 999 What's Your Emergency are similar.

I watched this - being surprised she'd got away with it at points but then she targeted her victims very well.

Am a bit surprised some of the previous people she told she wanted them to murder her ex husband - some of them didn't report her!

Total nightmare and good at 'playing the game' - it's quite worrying how she's developed. At the end, however, despite knowing what a despicable character she is, I did wonder - did anything happen with her childhood, did she have Munchhausen's as suggested? It just seems strange that she's evil at heart like that - for no reason? Or maybe I'm being very naive,

Standrewsschool · 06/01/2021 16:12

@Nikhedonia. You’d be surprised. People do inflict pain on themselves to perpetuate a myth. I was expecting the hot water bottle to ‘leak’ and for her to spill hot water on herself.

The gluten sandwich incidence was classic. She looked gutted that she couldn’t have the sandwich. Had to smile when all she got was a salad. A coeliac would know that coffee doesn’t have gluten in it.

I thought it was clever that the safe-guarding advocate was also in a wheelchair. Clever move. It meant she couldn’t pull of the sympathy vote so strongly.

Felt sorry for the boyfriend at the end in tears. He probably didn’t mean it to end with her being locked up. He obviously liked her a lot, or at least the nice side of her.

Fascinating programme.

Nikhedonia · 06/01/2021 16:20

@Standrewsschool oh I know people do, I just didn't see her as that type of character. She did look so gutted about the "vegan, gluten free food" Grin

Bloatedandconfused · 06/01/2021 16:26

I reckon she can't let go of the fact that her first husband "won". She was probably so used to getting her own way and controlling everyone around her that him getting away AND getting custody of their daughter must have been a massive dent to her ego.

definitely. You could see that the first husband was probably besotted by her at first and maybe their daughter was 'unplanned' - you could tell he was fairly clever though and seemed to be feeling lucky to have got away from her!
Dailyhandtowelwash · 06/01/2021 17:05

Absolutely everything that her ex-husband described about their relationship during and immediately afterwards was identical to the experience of the spouse of the person we knew. It was absolutely uncanny. And while she didn't go on to try to kill her ex, she did everything she could to exert control over him for years after they split.

AlexCabot · 06/01/2021 17:12

I don't think she's particularly clever, she just knew to surround herself with people who had learning difficulties or vulnerabilities that gave her the upper hand intellectually.

It's interesting that the first husband (who essentially 'won') didn't seem to have any of the vulnerabilities that the other men did.

It was obvious she was faking the medical issues pretty quickly. The difference in her the minute she found out she was being arrested, even the way she spoke changed!

I do hope her children are able to live their lives without damage from her. Sadly, I've read enough threads from adult children of narcissists on here (and my own father is the child of a parent with a personality disorder) to think that they may not come away completely unscathed.

Bloatedandconfused · 06/01/2021 17:42

For the ex husband to get custody of their daughter there must have been some serious allegations about Victoria surely? I wonder what social services findings were and were they involved with her son already?

Standrewsschool · 06/01/2021 18:22

The first husband was naive also - they met at nineteen and she was only his second girlfriend. Victoria was very good at being the perfect girlfriend, and gave the men what they wanted initially.

I also wondered about him having custody and what she must have done for him to get custody.

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/01/2021 18:45

She looked utterly crestfallen when her 'appropriate adult' turned up in a wheelchair with one leg.

I'd be surprised if she genuinely was a vegetarian, she just wanted to piss about!
itsgettingweird · 06/01/2021 18:55

Few observations Grin

She was all softly spoken and such a victim until they started pulling men out of the woodwork. I noticed it slip a few times when she was caught by surprise. Also when she was alone and the coffee/GF. He Clive was normal and not a pathetic whisper.

Absolutely PMSL at the detective who said she'd claim she had polio by the end of the day.

Where did all that money come from?

Her poor first husband. He genuinely seemed such a nice bloke and I read stories on here about men doing what she did to woman and I think it's been a valuable programme to highlight a) what does happen in splits and b) it can also be the other way around.

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/01/2021 19:02

I think she had probably built the cash fund up over a number of years in preparation for a hit man so there wouldn't be a paper trail from her bank account

I wonder if the cash came from small con jobs? £50 here and there would soon add up.
Twinkie01 · 06/01/2021 19:58

When she asked to go slowly in the car I would have put my foot down. Those police officers were so bloody patient!

AnneElliott · 06/01/2021 21:31

I love this programme. Couldn't believe she'd asked so many blokes to do something to her ex husband!

I did wonder why she just didn't go and get a good solicitor with all that cash and seek access in court to the child.

Wonder what happened to the other one when she went to prison.

JudyGemstone · 06/01/2021 22:03

I'm wondering why she didn't just whack him herself if she was that bothered.

OooErrThor · 06/01/2021 22:12

@TeachesOfPeaches I agree and wonder whether that was done on purpose? If not, it was a brilliant coincidence Wink

OooErrThor · 06/01/2021 22:13

Re the appropriate adult!

LizzieSiddal · 06/01/2021 22:27

I'm wondering why she didn't just whack him herself if she was that bothered.

I wonder whether she actually enjoys controlling these new men? It’s all part of her personality?

It’s a shame someone can’t do some research on her because she’s certainly an “interesting” person. I’d love to know what the heck goes through her mind!
