New thread - because of the imminent closure of the last.

You know if someone I really loathed won I would probably do one of two things-

  1. Wonder if there was something wrong with my opinion
  2. Turn off and not bother watching/talking about it.

Agree, no one is saying vernon or Shane are bad dads because they left.

And giovanna is more than a mother, she has written a very successful book about parenting and is also successful with her podcasts, neither of these two things are easy to be successful with. However even if she hadn’t done these things and chose to be a Sahm and only raise her kids, she is still able to leave her kids in the care of their father for three or four weeks as a one off, and it doesn’t impact her overall parenting ability.

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 16:38

Kate Middleton being on Gi s podcast was odd.
Youd hardly get to know the real person.
My first question would be why is your accent so put on and why does it need to be so posh.
And why have you lost so much weight since marrying royalty/ having kids.

Sakura54 · 05/12/2020 16:38

@unique1986

Boring people have won before. Often the entertaining or love to hate ones come top 3 or 4. It's the fact Gi wasnt first or second out that is more surprising.
I’ve watched the last 5 series and the winners have all been either funny, entertaining or had some sort of ‘journey’ with decent amount of screen time, so this was an underwhelming end. I liked Jess the most out of the women, the rest did nothing. Most of the men were entertaining though!
unique1986 · 05/12/2020 16:39

Yes rude questions I've always wondered why she changed so much.
Personality etc

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 16:40

Or do you regret marrying into royalty now lol

Sertchgi123 · 05/12/2020 17:09

I loved Gi and I'm delighted that she won. I'm glad they all got on this year, I think the crap of this year is why they got on. It was good to watch.

Standrewsschool · 05/12/2020 17:52

There’s been more bitching going on this thread (and I mean no 4 thread) then the whole of the three week series!

Redburnett · 05/12/2020 17:54

Well I stand by what I said about Gi. She is a trained actress, who has made her name out of being a mother, who does not need the money but who decided not to see her three very young children for 3 weeks in order to go on a TV entertainment show. Not seeing your children at all for 3 weeks is very different from being a working Mum whose children go to nursery.
Jordan is a working class lad from Burnley who has made his way on his own merits, and who has demonstrated that he has the resilience to overcome many of his fears, all the while remaining open, sincere and personable. He deserved to win.

CallmeAngelina · 05/12/2020 18:02

So, what about Jess, who also left her young child to do this? And Mo? And Vernon, Shane, Ruthie and Victoria?

Quaagars · 05/12/2020 18:03

People are seriously discussing her leaving her children to go in the jungle?!
WTF, Dads don't get this utter bollocks.
Drives me batty!
I didn't know who she was before the series, and thought "meh" at her winning as didn't really see much of her - thinking about it more she was brilliant at the trials she did though (just got on with them, no messing!) and came across as genuinely nice so fair play to her, good on her for winning.

CallmeAngelina · 05/12/2020 18:04

Not to mention all the other contestants in previous years?

Those kids are clearly much-loved and very fortunate. They were with their (seemingly) hands-on dad, and maybe had other care-givers around as well. They could see their mum each evening on TV, and the IG footage of that seems to show them being on-board with that.

Why all the sneering?

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 18:06

Come on without this thread half of us would have switched off.

Quaagars · 05/12/2020 18:11

who does not need the money but who decided not to see her three very young children for 3 weeks in order to go on a TV entertainment show

So?
What about the rest of them that have kids?
Jessica has kids too from what I remember her saying in there.
Pretty sure Vernon has them too, or is it OK if you're the Dad to go away for a couple of weeks?

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 18:14

I did wonder why Giovanna Fletcher was asked on the show. But I could say the same for a 3rd of the strictly contestants.

Quartz2208 · 05/12/2020 18:29

@unique1986 I think they like to have a range of people to bring in a range of viewers.

Some (me for example) who will watch it whoever is on it but others presumably come in as a fan. Giovanna may well have both her fans and McFly fans watching

The one who won, won. Get over it. Personally I was really pleased that Jordan didn't win. He was utterly juvenile for a man of 30, or whatever age he is. He was more like a 13 year old.
Cherryberrypies · 05/12/2020 18:50

Lots of parents, celebrities and non-celebrities, travel for work and leave their children for a period of time. Judging someone for this is so bizarre.

See my comments have been pounced in throughout the whole thread yet comments like this go unchallenged
Standrewsschool · 05/12/2020 19:03

I wonder what the future will hold for all of them? Panto for definite.

Shane and Vernon will probably get prime time shows. Maybe something along The Generation Game. Shane would be excellent hosting a show like Brian (Its a Puppet!) Conley did a few years ago - a mixture of singing, acts etc.

Russell and Ruthie’s singing and West end careers will be revived.

Hollie has her profile raised - presenting job? Para-Olympics presenting?

Mo - not sure

Gi - presenting more mainstream tv. This Morning? Loose woman?

Jordan - not sure, presenting on tv?

Bev - not sure

Victoria Derbyshire - not sure,

AJ - programme with brother

Jess - not sure, more singing? West end?

Quaagars · 05/12/2020 19:14

Aw, I liked Jordan Smile
Just seemed genuinely fun

MrsKingfisher · 05/12/2020 19:20

Now what do we do?!

Quaagars · 05/12/2020 19:22

@MrsKingfisher

Bitch about the contestants, maybe a debate about whether mums should be allowed to leave their kids, that kind of thing?

Grin
unique1986 · 05/12/2020 19:25

Shock I wish celeb big brother was still round. That would be coming up in January..

You can be as nasty as you like I guess, you're choice. Just seems very disappointing to see her being pulled apart for being a mum on a site like Mumsnet, for daring to not spend every second with her children.

The fact that you are only prepared to pull her about for leaving her children and not the men in there says more about you than her tbh though.
