New thread - because of the imminent closure of the last.

It was a lovely warm show. I liked all three finalists they all had good points and it was easy to see any of them winning. Pleased it was Gi in the end- she handled her last trial like a boss and the other campmates all thought she was lovely.

Once AJ had gone DD switched her votes to Giovanna because it was nice for her to see a woman on there who she could relate to as being like women she sees in real life. No plastic surgery/happy without make up going about life calmly and just got on with things without moaning
All the other camp mates liked her and were happy to her to win which says a lot

I do think it suffered as a whole this year with not seeing much of what went on. The format was challenge/trial/meal very little else of camp was shown.
Shane got a lot more airtime of those bits as well

ilovebrie8 · 05/12/2020 08:44

Disappointed it wasn’t Jordan the winner, Gi nice enough but a bit bland...didn’t entertain. I also really liked Russell and his singing! I think with social media no one had a chance against Gi as she’s a million followers already through her podcast/blog...none of the others come close.

Redburnett · 05/12/2020 08:50

Very disappointed that Jordan did not win.
Not impressed that a mother of 3 very young children thinks it acceptable to leave them with no contact with her for 3 weeks - for a bit of entertainment. Not good parenting IMO.

AppleKatie · 05/12/2020 08:56

Are you equally upset at the dads on the show?

And she hardly left them in the wilderness. They are with their loving father and no doubt watching her on tv (or clips of her dad has edited the following morning).

Mo Farah has 3 kids aged 8 and under and old older one. Is he a bad parent too?

awaynboilyurheid · 05/12/2020 09:14

I’m fine with Giovanna winning, she seemed nice enough , although I’ve made it clear we wanted Jordan to win from the start.

I have to laugh when people on her go on about a normal mum winning.
The “ let’s pretend we are in the Ivy” comment when they were eating was a very telling of the kind of places she goes to. Her husband is a very wealthy man As I said we think Jordan won too because he overcame so many fears but let’s not pretend that a “normal mum” or “average woman” won She won because of her followers and her husbands privilege .

Turquoisesea · 05/12/2020 09:17

I liked all of them this year, I didn’t mind who won in the final 3 they were all worthy winners. I think Jordan overcame the biggest hurdles and was genuinely scared in the trials but overcame his fears. Vernon and G both seemed lovely too. I liked the fact G seemed very comfortable in her own skin and they all loved her. Vernon seemed a lovely guy too. I think it was just lighthearted entertainment and just what we needed after such a rubbish 2020.

peboh · 05/12/2020 09:21

Some of the men also had children, everyone who signed on knew they could be there for 3 weeks without contact with their families. So why are we only judging the mum? Her husband also leaves their children to go on tour etc, is that bad parenting?
Such double standards on Mumsnet when it's comes to parents and I cannot begin to understand it.

RedRec · 05/12/2020 09:25

I am heartily sick of people bleating that Giovanna only won because of her apparent army of devoted fans.
I had heard of her but knew nothing about her beforehand. Grew to love her for her kindness, intelligence, compassion, sense of fun and all round niceness. And so did my 16 year old daughter.

HerFlowersToLove · 05/12/2020 09:27

@FlyingByTheSeatof

But that's the whole point she can't possibly have won over the audience watching I'm a celeb because we didn't see her do anything much of interest to warrant her being voted over others in there who were far more interesting characters. She literally did nothing much of consequence which can only mean her votes were by those who were already following her on social media.
Why can't she possibly have won over the audience? I'd never heard of her or seen her before, bit thought she was great. Strong, just got on with things, obviously very popular with the others, kind and generous.

Surely if it was down to popularity already achieved elsewhere, then Shane Richie would have won, as star of one of the biggest shows on TV?

ilovebrie8 · 05/12/2020 09:40

Totally agree with your sentiments @awaynboilyurheid....she’s not your normal mum. Her husband is super rich she lives a privileged lifestyle...she doesn’t need the money to go on the show....when she commented let’s pretend we are at the Ivy....that’s not the norm for most people. Fact is she had a million plus followers on social media at the outset none of the others come close ...so that is a huge factor in getting votes. Jordan I think should’ve won Wink

willsantausesantatize · 05/12/2020 09:40

Mumsnet usually on a stay at home v work outside the home arguments : go out and earn your own money and pension money , show your kids that hard work pays off.
Gi wins a reality show: she shouldn't leave her children behind. (although a few of the men did and that's fine!) no wonder so many people ( mostly women) are depressed. You get judged whatever you do !
I really wanted Jordon to win but she seems nice enough.
Was good this year and I haven't watched it for a few years now. I liked it was in a different place too!

theliverpoolone · 05/12/2020 09:41

I agree, RedRec. I'd never heard of her, but loved how kind, compassionate and calm she was. I think we're so used to people going completely over the top about everything now (on Strictly you'd think they'd won the lottery, the way they react when they're kept in for another week) that we aren't used to seeing people just reacting normally to things, without a load of drama.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/12/2020 09:46

Wow.

theliverpoolone · 05/12/2020 09:47

And Jess had also left a young child at home, but I haven't noticed her being criticised. People just use any excuse to beat someone up when they want to.

Aragog · 05/12/2020 09:50

@Redburnett

They were with their dad most of the time, and at school/nursery during the day. Watched a couple of their Instagram clips whilst this was on and the children seem to be very happy and well rounded, and perfectly happy to be with daddy. If I remember rightly they spent half term with her in their own near the castle, and the youngest the week after too, whilst her husband, Tom, was doing his work. Is he a bad parent too?

What about Mo, Vernon, Victoria, Hollie, Shane leaving their children, presumably with much loved family, for their three weeks? What about Dec being at work for that time when he has a young child? And everyone else who have competed in previous years?

What about people who work away from home on a regular basis? Those in the forces who,are away for months?

showmethegin · 05/12/2020 09:58

So bloody what that she's rich. They most likely all have a few bob. Im not a a mom (yet) but all of my mom friends go out for dinner, sometimes even to the Ivy, and they aren't rich!

willsantausesantatize · 05/12/2020 10:02

She only said the Ivy to try and cheer them up a bit because the food isn't always great that they have to cook ! I know people who go to eat there and they are not loaded at all but save up for a special occasion and just like a treat likewise the Ritz for afternoon tea!

LagneyandCasey · 05/12/2020 10:07

As long as they pay their taxes I don't care how rich they are. If ITV or whoever want to pay them £100k and half goes to the taxman - great.

Giovanna won because she's an all round good egg. It's refreshing to see a young woman on tv with no make up, naturally dried hair and plain nails just getting on with her day without complaint and obviously getting recognition for it. I have a dd who worries about her looks to the point of not wanting to leave the house sometimes if her hair isn't perfect. I'd like more role models like Giovanna on insta etc and mainstream tv.

kittensarecute · 05/12/2020 10:30

I think that last eating trial won it for her, she was amazing! She seemed lovely so I'm glad she won (but I voted for Jordan)

wetasstenalady · 05/12/2020 10:34

Hollie doesn't have children ?

wetasstenalady · 05/12/2020 10:37

@Bluntness100

Yes I’m surprised at the comments on Giovanna. Some women like to put other women down. And to be getting so het up about it. It’s quite unbelievable.
Trust me if her brother went on the show i would say the same. Why is it automatically sexism?
Quartz2208 · 05/12/2020 11:03

I liked Jordan but my god he is a manchild. A cute and lovable one yes without I think any malice or meanness but still a man child nonetheless

We should be pleased that a competent normal looking woman has one. Yes she has had certain advantages in life and there are elements which we can’t relate to but she was still fairly normal and people liked her enough to win

I prefer her to Jacqueline and I was ok with her winning

lynsey91 · 05/12/2020 11:05

Just caught up on last night's show and sorry but Gi has gone down totally in my eyes.

She chose to have fish and chips with CURRY sauce!!! No way yuk yuk yuk. I thought she had refined taste eating at The Ivy but no she is as common as muck.

This is a jokey post by the way although curry sauce certainly does not go on fish and chips.
