New thread - because of the imminent closure of the last.

Ps curry sauce on fish and chips sounds vile.

Fizbosshoes · 05/12/2020 13:26

Why are people singling out Gi to check her privilege? I know they stretch the term celeb sometimes, but they are all privileged on some level (reckon AJ, Jordan, Holly maybe less than some of the others)

Ruthie - mentions Royal family
Vernon - mentioned celeb neighbours (cant remember who) and said pheasant was something they would have at home
Mo - had someone v famous in his phone contacts (again I cant remember who it was)
Bev - trained with Arnold Schwarzenegger
Shane - went go carting with Tom Cruise but the press were obvs more interested in Shane
Gi I know already mentioned interviewing Kate Middleton.

Was there the same hoo ha about Harry Redknapp? (I wasnt on MN then) He lives in one of the most expensive places in the world?

Cherryberrypies · 05/12/2020 13:31

@Aragog

Who,were the blokes one year who, were really catty and bullying?
One year it was Jamie lomas and Dennis (very small man, can’t remember his surname Grin)
AppleKatie · 05/12/2020 13:37

They are all privileged and I don’t think any of them were trying to pretend they aren’t?

This is was in 2019.

Strictly's AJ Pritchard is set to be the show's highest paid professional dancer this year, pocketing a whopping £360,000

Yep crazy.

Bluntness100 · 05/12/2020 13:37

Again bluntness I don't really think you have any moral high ground to call people bitchy

If it helps you in any way, I heard you the first time and I’m sorry I didn’t acknowledge it. You don’t need to follow me round repeating it constantly, I heard you and it’s becoming weird stalker like now. So I heard you, I acknowledge your comment, and it’s time to stop now. Ok?

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 13:38

They just get paid so much for all the celeb tv show gigs and the solo tours etc

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 13:48

Just looked at Gi s Instagram 1.7 million followers.
450k likes for winning or something.
100s of celebs/singers/stars commenting.
Basically everyone will be jumping on the bandwagon.

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 13:49

I didn't realise how popular she was.

Redburnett · 05/12/2020 14:00

My point about Gi leaving her children for 3 weeks relates to the fact that being a mother is precisely what she is famous for. It is her 'raison d'etre'. I don't think that leaving your young children with no real contact with you for 3 weeks fits with that persona. To be famous for being a good mother is very different from being famous for being an eminent sportsperson.

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 14:03

She leaves her young children in nursery all day. So what's the difference.

Bluntness100 · 05/12/2020 14:10

Wow. You can be a good mother and also as a one off leave your kids foe three weeks.

These attacks on her, now even attacking her ability as a parent are really awful.

BasiliskStare · 05/12/2020 14:13

Ah - I know Jordan was a bit bonkers but I loved his joy - DH is just watching a football match on the tv ( at Burnley & they have on the advertisements round the ground "Well Done Jordan" & "Turf Moor - Happy place" ) - I hope they give his Dad and brothers a free ticket when they can go back I bet Burnley football team love him just at the moment.

I didn't mind who won out of the final three. By a squidge I was pleased it came down to Giovanna or Jordan but by a squidge . Apart from the money then the publicity I reckon is pretty much what people who want a shot at a TV type thing is what they are in this for . But I reckon if he does want this Jordan has done the job - doesn't matter whether he came 1st or second & I had no clue who Gi was. But she was clearly not in this for the money - she and her family have enough - so OK by me

Tigger001 · 05/12/2020 14:15

I wouldn't have said Gi was solely famous for being a good mum. She aloe helped other parents and due to the way she conduced herself attracted some really influential women to her podcasts.

So yes it all seems to be centred around her being a parent but I think her personality is what has sent that rocketing.

I didn't know her really before this, and no, I wouldn't have said she were he most entertaining, but she was kind and thoughtful and sometimes you don't need to be loudest to stand out. She stood out as being kind, caring and loving and maybe due to current times, that's what people wanted to win.

butterpuffed · 05/12/2020 14:25

Some of us know all the celebs, some of us know some of them, some of us know hardly any of them.

I think we're bound to be influenced by who we've heard of and whether we liked/disliked them beforehand.

How about next year's one being non celebrities but what could the programme be called ?!

Tigger001 · 05/12/2020 14:25

And people saying it's not a good mum leaving her kids for 3 weeks, simply can't judge. It's her choice how she parents, it's up to her and her family what choices she makes for her career and I'm damned sure no one else knows her kids like she does, so she is best placed to make that call.

peboh · 05/12/2020 14:59

I'm a stay at home mum, I'm going on holiday next year without my daughter. Contact will be limited due to being in another country. Does that make me a bad mother?
peboh · 05/12/2020 14:59

Also her children were left with their dad. It's not as she she sent them off to a child minder for 3 weeks. They were in their home, with their own father. I really don't see the problem.

Sakura54 · 05/12/2020 15:10

The winner was a huge disappointment. How she got famous and being a mum is besides the point. This is an entertainment show so you’d expect someone entertaining/interesting to win, right? So what if she was kind, how is that going to entertain us? Her highlights reel was boring and even Ant and Dec seemed bored at her trial, although she was impressive in that. Even some people that went early were more entertaining. I've only watched the last few years, but I'm guessing she's probably the most boring person to have ever won?

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 15:18

Boring people have won before. Often the entertaining or love to hate ones come top 3 or 4.
It's the fact Gi wasnt first or second out that is more surprising.

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 15:20

I mean was Hollie much different to Gi?
She wasnt a bitch or uncaring.
Same for Ruthie.

unique1986 · 05/12/2020 15:22

I did think Jess might get to top 3 at one stage. Then she disappeared again...

Aragog · 05/12/2020 16:18

No. On mumsnet some rookie like to claim that's all she's known for. Reality is that she is known beyond that, not just as being a mum.

You can't have it all ways. If she is a bad parent for leaving her children for three weeks (which Boone apart from you has even trained to claim m, even those who don't like her) then so is every other parent on there. You can't pick and choose because it suits your argue bet.

ruby4ever · 05/12/2020 16:20

Whoever said Gi not really being a role of a good mother because she left them for 3 weeks. Needs their head checked out! Are you serious? So it's perfectly fine for a father to go in and have zero contact with their children for 3 weeks, just not for mother's. Don't be so silly. Her life doesn't stop just because she's given birth to humans. There is still more to life for mothers.

wetasstenalady · 05/12/2020 16:24

I don't think she's a bad mum for leaving her kids at all. None of the fathers ever get told that. I personally could not go that long with no contact at all the thought hurts my stomach but it's up to the individual
