New ’un.

Whose turn on the storyline merry-go-round will it be this week?

OP posts:
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/11/2020 08:44

My nephew is the same age as Oliver. He's so mischievous and impish.
I had absolute snot bubbles. Thinking there but for the Grace of God.
It was, terrifying because there was no warning signs of anything being wrong. Oliver was a,perfectly healthy baby.

Obviously you know its not real, but These things do happen in real life.
You could a actually feel Leannes agony.

Corrie has certainly done an excellent service to those in this tragic situation IRL. The only fault I've got with it though is. Where are Leanne and Steve's family. eg Janice Les Stella Eva Liz. Even if they had to get different actors in to play them.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/11/2020 09:08

I'm watching on catch up (deserted the street for many years) and I am finding the terminally ill child storyline a bit tedious and repetitive TBH - but I was always someone who watched Corrie for the comedy - the Duckworths, Mavis and Derek etc. I think I have been away too long to get involved in this particular storyline.

And there are so many new people who have sprung from Steve's loins! Did he NEVER wear a condom?

Re: Billy the Vicar - totally unbelievable storyline and irritating characters.

However, I do like Tracey now. She seems the most believable human being of them all.

In fairness to the writers etc, social distance must be blocking a lot of creative thought, but I think they are over-milking some of the ideas.

Redglitter · 14/11/2020 09:25

Where are Leanne and Steve's family. eg Janice Les Stella Eva Liz

Its crazy there's been no mention of them. Covid certainly gives them a good excuse for not actually being at the hospital etc but surely they could at least refer to them or have phone calls etc.

Roussette · 14/11/2020 09:54

I agree about Tracy, I loved her comment to Emma after she'd said she was so upset and wishes there was something she could do... Tracy says something along the lines of 'what .... rob a bank, get some criminals on board, you mean?'
(It was much better than that but you get the gist)
I'm a bit foot in mouth with my dark humour (comes from years in a job where you could only survive with dark humour) so I love her snark and sharp comments!

Smallsteps88 · 14/11/2020 10:32

It was acted very well last night, that's the only positive I can say. I'm still so angry with Corrie for doing this story and I know they'll win loads of frigging awards for it next year.

eddiemairswife · 14/11/2020 10:53

After he dies we have the funeral to endure, so there will be Billy in one of his pretty clerical shirts offering comfort to the bereaved to look forward to.

excelledyourself · 14/11/2020 11:29

You think Leanne was very good in the court scenes last night, and I thought Steve was better than he has been. But I did roll my eyes at the mention of an appeal. It hadn't crossed my mind and I just thought "oh god, here she goes again".

I was thinking last night how ridiculous it is that we haven't seen or heard from any of Leanne's family. Not a peep.

I thought Tracy was going to be a bit harsh with Emma, but then she called her "babe". Plus her comment to Steve after the long awkward silence about evidence for the appeal made me love her again.

I love David too, but I wish he had just said something a bit more comforting to Gail last night. I don't know if that was just his way of keeping things normal for her, winding her up.

Smallsteps88 · 14/11/2020 11:33

I loved the bit between Sarah and Nick when she offered him a hug and he was like "come on! we dont do that!" Grin

MrDarcysMa · 14/11/2020 11:39

I think Jane Danson will win awards for this, her scenes are harrowing.

Smallsteps88 · 14/11/2020 11:42

she will, most certainly. I dont want the show itself (writers etc) to win any awards for it. but the actors do deserve awards for it.

ellenanora5 · 14/11/2020 12:25

I cried my way through those scenes with Leanne and Steve, it was so sad, I think Steve is just holding it together for now and after it hits him his depression will come back worse than before.

I don't like the story line and never have, it's too much for an early evening soap but I think the actors have done so well with it this week and considering the restrictions it can't have been easy.

I wish Natasha would go away.

Smallsteps88 · 14/11/2020 12:30

you can just tell Natasha is going to cause a whole load of crap for Nick. her work isnt done yet.

excelledyourself · 14/11/2020 12:32

I really hope Nick and Leanne stay together.

What happened with Toyah and Imran fostering?

ajandjjmum · 14/11/2020 17:06

@theresnoonequitelikegrandma

I nearly lost it at Sarah's singing the Skye Boat Song....really moving. But then I was totally distracted with Leanne and Steve sitting by the obviously empty bed! For a minute I thought Oliver had gone!
That was the bit that got me too - and I'd forgotten that Sarah had lost Billy, so very tough on her.

It's easy to find fault with the acting, but I think last night's episode was a credit to the writers and actors - especially Jane Danson.

bloodyhairy · 14/11/2020 21:44

Oh, it was all very moving indeed. Leanne is probably one of my least favourite soap characters, but I did really feel for her and felt she played it very well/realistically.
I do so hate her constant lashing out at others though. She's like a toddler. And she apologises, only to behave in the same way two minutes later!

VanGoghsDog · 14/11/2020 23:21

@zukiecat

Sarah lost Billy too, he's never been mentioned in this storyline.

Kevin also seems to forget that his baby with Alison died too.

I'm not sure it was ever like that was it? My niece (2) inhaled a piece of peanut and had to be operated on at GOSH and her mum was able to be with her the whole time, and that was early May, in the full lock down.
VanGoghsDog · 14/11/2020 23:22

Sorry, that was the wrong quote - should have been in reply to @Snaileyes

Housemum · 14/11/2020 23:46

VanGoghsDog - in our local hospital one parent can be there all the time, they can swap. No other family members (unless there are other legal guardians). Don’t know how things would be for a case like this as that wouldn’t be in our local one. Weather field General seems to let everyone in and look at the same time!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/11/2020 23:58

Is your niece okay now, Vangoghsdog.

VanGoghsDog · 15/11/2020 00:38

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Is your niece okay now, Vangoghsdog.
Oh yes, thank you! It was a pretty straightforward op, though of course we were very worried at the time. It was also within a week of my dad dying (in the lockdown, he was at home and I was there with him and mum, it was expected) so it was quite emotional all round for a while!
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/11/2020 01:07

Aww that’s good. I’m sorry about your poor dad though Flowers

bloodyhairy · 15/11/2020 04:07

Sarah has grown on me as an actress. As has Nick actually. They're both quite natural, whereas some of them do tend to overact. Mind you, Nick and Sarah aren't portrayed as total caricatures!

Deadringer · 15/11/2020 11:48

Nick and Tracey have really had a chance to shine in recent times.

BenoneBeauty · 15/11/2020 12:08

I hope Leanne and Nick stay together and agree that they've all stepped up their acting for this storyline.

I would love if they went back to properly rounded characters rather than the caricatures they've turned most of them into in recent years.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 15/11/2020 16:03

Catching up on this lovely new thread.

My poor Steven, he knew when he was reading the book, didn't he. That's Ruairí and Oliver now, both his boys.

In real life him and Emma have lost a number of babies, these stories must be hard to film.
