New ’un.

Whose turn on the storyline merry-go-round will it be this week?

I found it strange that they never talked about having contact with the grandparents during the whole business. Liz and Jim McDonald, Janice Battersby, Leanne's birth mother (Michelle Collins). They don't have to physically appear. It seemed that the whole story was about Leanne and her emotions.
What on earth was that nonsense about Jenny and Johnnie, and especially Daisy and whoever? We don't need new characters suddenly appearing.
The little segment last week with David and Gail doing the ironing was a welcome light relief, though it looked as if it had been slotted in to fill a gap.

Smallsteps88 · 28/11/2020 16:02

Samuel Pepys’s or Adrian Mole’s? (Sorry, couldn’t resist grin)

Grin

It’s one of those words I hated as a child as I could never remember if it was diary or dairy. Looks like I haven’t resolved my issues Grin

I've been reading the thread for a while now but never posted.
I just read on a BBC article that some actors formed a bubble for two weeks to record the scenes for the 60th anniversary episodes without having to social distance.

After watching the episode last night, I can't help thinking they should have considered it for that too in order to do the story any justice. Throughout the court case and then Oliver's death it all felt very unnatural and stiff.
I know that actors have their own lives but I think the story lines they want to conclude in the 60th anniversary show come no where near to the importance of doing a story line involving the death of a small child and the impact on a family this can have justice.

ladymary86 · 28/11/2020 18:05

Oh and while I'm here... I hope that Daisy won't be sticking around. Every time she was on the screen last night I irrationally wanted to throw something at the tv. Very irritating.

Well, there is nothing in legislation that says you can do that, they're just making up rules.

ladymary86 · 28/11/2020 19:22

I think shows like Strictly and the Great British Bake off have done similar though haven't they?

eggandonion · 28/11/2020 19:56

I can't wait until bubbles are no longer a thing! I'd like to be in Noel's bubble but my baking isn't brilliant. I'd be ok in a bubble with Adam and Imran and Ryan but not I'd be scared I'd end up with less convivial bubblers. Or Paul, Billy and Todd.

VanGoghsDog · 28/11/2020 20:57

I don't watch them so no idea. I sometimes see five minutes of Strictly Take Two or something, and it seems to me every time they are telling us who has gone off sick with Covid!
desperatehousewife21 · 28/11/2020 21:05

They’ve def done bubbles on strictly, they went on about it every 5 mins during the opening show Hmm

I think Corrie have done well with the storyline all things considered. Can’t have been easy having to keep everyone 2 meters apart when they would normally all be hugging and comforting each other. Emma’s cauli cheese annoyed me too tho Grin

Also agree with the Jenny/ Daisy/ Johnny scenes. So odd and completely random they’d be inviting vague relatives from years ago to the pub when it’s supposed to be in the middle of a pandemic/ lockdown etc

TellingBone · 28/11/2020 22:20

Yeah I think the aim must have been to contrast what was going on at the hospital with everyday life, something Corra has historically done really well; but they over-egged and misjudged it with the totally ridiculous Rovers farce.

Akire · 28/11/2020 23:05

Was the pub thing planned? Some sort of higher plan? Apart from a filler I didn’t see the point? Where did he move their joint account too? HE doesn’t have any dependants? Was it just plot so she is free and divorces him while he’s in prison?

Queenoftheashes · 28/11/2020 23:40

Professional bubbling certainly happens. The f1 team members are constantly hugging.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 29/11/2020 09:09

I think the key difference is that the participants went into those shows knowing that was the deal, and that it had a limited time frame. It’s different to telling an actor who’s been doing a job for 20 years that they now have to move away from their family until whenever the rules change again.

OP posts:
TikTakTikTak · 29/11/2020 12:22

I still think they should use mannequins. Steve and Tracey lunge toward each other, cut to the close up and you can see the back of a mannequin and Steve hugging. job done.

Fiddlersgreen · 29/11/2020 12:49

Other soaps seem to have some moments without social distancing, I think they’ve used actors real life partners for holding hands and hugs. I guess they are doing the best they can but it has felt very cold at times in a storyline like this and no one can comfort the family.

The Jenny/Johnny scenes were strange and an unnecessary addition to the storylines. It did help stop me from sobbing through the whole episode though so I guess that was the point. I have my own Oliver and can’t help crying over these storylines anyway

Smallsteps88 · 29/11/2020 12:54

EastEnders are doing it very well I think. They’re hiring real life couples to do hugging/hand holding and they’re using clear screens and very good camera angling to have families/coupes sitting together but you can’t see the screen/gap when it’s aired.

Smallsteps88 · 29/11/2020 12:54

And the scenes were people are being 2m apart seem far more natural than on Corrie or emmerdale.

eggandonion · 29/11/2020 14:29

An inflatable Steve could work. And at times the Aggie family are sort of cardboard.

Roussette · 29/11/2020 14:48

An inflatable Steve could work.

You'd need a lot of puff to blow that one up!

(Have to say egg your posts do make me laugh!)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/11/2020 15:30

Leanne's birth mother (Michelle Collins)

Leanne isn't the Battersby's natural child?

How the heck did I mss this during the 10 years I was away?

Was Les involved in this? Or not?

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 29/11/2020 15:36

Yeah Les Battersby and Cindy Beale a really natural pairing!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/11/2020 15:51

I feel sick, Zara . . .

How did it end up that Janice took responsibility?

Smallsteps88 · 29/11/2020 15:52

Les Battersby and Michelle Collins are Leanne’s Parents
Janice Battersby and some man I don’t think We know are Toyah’s parents.
Leanne and Toyah are step sisters but have always referred to each other just as sister.

Smallsteps88 · 29/11/2020 15:53

Ohh apparently we have seen toyah’s dad, he is called Ronnie Clegg.

Mairyhinge · 29/11/2020 16:11

Janice is toyahs mum, les is leannes dad and they got together ( before they came to the street) so Leanne and toyah are step sisters. Think les should come back to support his daughter!
