Did anyone else watch this on Sky Atlantic with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant? It was a slow starter but actually really good. Can't wait to watch the rest

OP posts:
Delatron · 23/11/2020 22:33

It’s aired on Sky Atlantic now. I watched it live so to speak so I think we can talk?

rookiemere · 23/11/2020 22:42

Well didn't see the ending to Episode 5 coming- well actually I did right from the start if the episode when DH started warbling on about what was going to happen- and he's so smug that he was on the money.

Is it just me who gets more annoyed each episode by NKs waxy unmoving face. She looks totally bizarre and makes everything she does or says ridiculous. Sorry Blush I just had to get that out. I really wish she hadn't felt the need to have all that work, I bet she would have aged naturally beautifully.

Thedogisdrivingmemad · 23/11/2020 22:55

So do we think Jonathan/ Hugh did it and Henry is hiding the weapon for him as Grace/ NK says earlier in ep5 that Henry would do anything for his father? Or do we think Henry did it?
Why keep the weapon at all somewhere so obvious.

Pickypolly · 24/11/2020 08:17

Also, if Hugh is out shagging murder victim, Nicole is put wandering the streets, poor kid left on his own in the house, what if there was a fire?!
Him a paediatrician and her a psychologist, safeguarding right there!
How old is the kid? He needs supervision to school, is he about 10 or 11?

GroundAlmonds · 24/11/2020 09:59

Anyone got any thoughts on the significance of the opening credit sequence? Small girl with curly red hair against 1970s fabric is presumably meant to be NK’s character as a child. Why would the intro be all about her as a small girl?

IHaveAGreyLamp · 24/11/2020 10:16

I did think the last episode had a bit of a plot hole in it... HG left the family home when he was 18 and never looked back, he’s said a few times now he has nothing to do with them... yet NK facetimes his mother who says, Oh we haven’t seen you since the wedding AND THEN goes on to say it’s her son has driven the ‘no contact’ with the family and it was a decision he made before he even met NK.

So how come his mother was at the wedding, and how does NK know who she is, if HG was no contact with them?

Small issue but I felt it was poorly thought out. It would have been better if his mother had reached out to NK having seen her standing by HG on the news and wanted to warn her he was a psychopath

IHaveAGreyLamp · 24/11/2020 10:17

Also who is the second person HG had an affair with? His lawyer was asking for her name in prison but it was never revealed. I reckon it’s NK’s blond lawyer friend and it will be revealed in the last episode

tigger1001 · 24/11/2020 13:42

Did the police not search their apartment? If so surely the murder weapon would have been found then?

Delatron · 24/11/2020 14:24

Good point! You’d think a thorough search of the prime suspect’s apartment would have been in order. It was hardly well hidden....

Either another massive plot hole or it’s been placed there afterwards.

foofooyeah · 24/11/2020 16:02

They searched their apartment but the son was already at Donald Sutherlands place then wasn’t he?
And just had a thought. HG went into boys room at 5am the night Elena was killed. Could be significant.

BigBadVoodooHat · 25/11/2020 07:08

@GoogleWhacked

That's exactly what I was thinking - who the hell would have their child in that court room listening to all that! Also, would you really go out to a restaurant when you're a high profile murder suspect?
Ditto to both of these points.

The restaurant was very weird. They’re hounded by the media (and the public) half the time, but can pop out for a posh dinner and have a bit of a row at the table and no one bats an eyelid?

It’s getting kind of silly now, but I feel I like I need to see it out to the end.

BigBadVoodooHat · 25/11/2020 07:13

Oh, and Nicole is so besotted with Hugh that despite knowing that he slept with another woman, appeared on TV saying her loved her, and is accused of murdering her, she popped round for a middle-of-the-night shag with him?

Idiot. Hmm

Tomcullenisahero · 25/11/2020 07:44

I think maybe the kids were at court because in they would see it anyway on line or from other kids.
I love this show, I love twists and turns,so far I have thought everyone was guiltyGrin. Plus I just love NYC

tigger1001 · 25/11/2020 11:33

That's how I feel. The courtroom scenes were so unrealistic and silly.

I will see it though to the end. Either next weeks episode will be so spectacular that all the daftness will make complete sense or I will feel I've wasted my time with this one

NoGoodPunsLeft · 25/11/2020 21:40

Nope me too, I paused it on her 'terrified/shocked' face at the end of episode 5, the only thing she can do is slightly widen her eyes. HG on the other hand has loads of grey hairs, wrinkles & a paunch yet no one bats an eyelid. Heaven forbid a woman looks her age.

I suspected the son from the restaurant when he kept going on about being a family, getting over it etc, I think he did it do his dad was back in the family.

I don't get why they keep meeting up either, is it meant to be trauma bonding maybe? Like she can't quite let him go yet

SapatSea · 26/11/2020 13:55

NK's face makes all her reactions look comical. The whole thing is so silly and weird, totally unbelievable.

midsomermurderess · 26/11/2020 15:31

I think Hugh Grant's acting is very poor in this. He was very good in A Very British Scandal, so he can do it, but he is so wooden and acting by numbers here.
My guess is Henry did do it and it will be a case of which of the parents takes the rap to save him.
I agree about Nicole Kidman, she looks as if she has been embalmed. It's quite unsettling.

To be fair, the clunky and implausible script is probably not helping with that. Grin

I read something the other day which hit the nail on the head for me: she can't show full depth of expression, which gives her a detached, dreamy quality.

I had wondered if the floaty passiveness was an acting choice, but once I read that the penny dropped that she seems 'otherworldly' because of her expressive limitations.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 30/11/2020 21:59

Anyone there? Did anyone hear what blonde lawyer friend say to prosecuting lawyer in the bathroom? Rewinder it back but couldn't make it out. This is good tonight.

Clickncollect · 30/11/2020 22:17

@HeyGirlHeyBoy we rewound that scene several times then managed to work out how to switch subtitles on!
Brunette lawyer says ‘that was obscene’
Blonde lawyer says ‘I know’
Brunettes lawyer says ‘do you?’

Pickypolly · 30/11/2020 22:17

Is that it then? Is it finished or is there another?

frustrationcentral · 30/11/2020 22:20

Disappointed!

GoogleWhacked · 30/11/2020 22:23

That was an intense ending!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 30/11/2020 22:30

I'd like to have had Hugh's flashback to his sister's death... Would be interesting. Also thought he turned on Elena very suddenly.. Seemed a bit too contrived.

I thought having set him up on the stand it would show that she had actually done it. Why would she be done for perjury? That was the truth.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 30/11/2020 22:31

Thanks clickncollect, what a let down! Grin
