Did anyone else watch this on Sky Atlantic with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant? It was a slow starter but actually really good. Can't wait to watch the rest

OP posts:
Delatron · 13/11/2020 21:41

Didn’t!

rookiemere · 14/11/2020 08:22

I started watching last night so just finished episode 2. I find it almost unwatchable because a) it's not that good and b) Nicole Kidman has had so much work done that her face doesn't move and is weirdly puffy. I really wish she'd stop with the facial work as if her character is meant to be roughly the same age as Hugh Grant she'd have a few wrinkles anyway.

Figgygal · 14/11/2020 08:25

Yeah liked the first one was really intrigued by it but been a bit bored the least 2
Love Donald Sutherland but he was massively overacting this week don’t trust the blonde friend at all

BigBadVoodooHat · 14/11/2020 09:41

@Delatron

It was revealed that Donald lent Hugh a lot of money. And that Hugh was paying the boy’s school fees? But then why don’t the husband ask questions?
Yes, I got all of that. Was just confused by "Yes why on earth would Donald pay the school fees for the child of his son-in-laws mistress?" as there hasn't been any indication that Donald knew about Hugh's affair (unless I've missed it).

My understanding was that Hugh asked Donald for $500k as (allegedly) Nicole was worried about money in general & paying the fees for their own child, rather than any suggestion that Donald knew anything about the mistress and Hugh possibly paying school fees for her child.

(Which is, of course, not to say that Donald doesn't know a lot more than we've been lead to believe he does, including the mistress and any potential blackmail plots, or even that there ever was a loan of $500k and this wasn't just made up to plant more doubts in Nicole's mind)

[NB: cannot remember any of the character names!]

BigBadVoodooHat · 14/11/2020 09:51

^^ Unless I missed something vital about how Donald did know about the mistress ~ my mind did wander a bit in the last episode as it didn't feel like very much was happening.

Delatron · 14/11/2020 11:23

Yes sorry it definitely didn’t reveal Donald knee Hugh was having an affair.

It does seem strange he would lend him so much money. Did he say he knew it was for school fees? I wasn’t concentrating at that point!

I vaguely recall him saying that Hugh claimed that Nicole was worried about paying the school fees but was too proud to ask, which is why Hugh went to him behind Nic's back. Donald implied that the school wouldn't want to lose Nic & Hugh's son as a student (though I don't know why ~ it's not like they're celebrities or royalty, so I can't think why the school would keep him on for good publicity if the fees weren't being paid)

However, I'm not entirely convinced that there ever was such a conversation, or the loan of any money. I suspect Donald made this up to sow further doubts in Nicole's mind about Hugh. If he tries to deny it she'll not believe him as he's already been proven to have lied to her about the mistress/daughter, etc., so Donald's on to a winner here.

BigBadVoodooHat · 14/11/2020 12:13

I've just remembered that I fell asleep during this week's episode, so had to rewatch some of it, so my recollection might not be very reliable!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/11/2020 18:13

I think it’s the waiting a week between episodes that’s the issue to be honest we are so used to binge watching stuff now.

You could be right, Bluntness. I was watching DNA yesterday and absolutely engrossed - then suddenly we ran ut of episodes. The FRUSTRATION!

I sadi to Mr S - I'm just so used to watching ad infinitum. I don't like waiting now.

SunscreenCentral · 14/11/2020 23:14

Saved up the 3 episodes and binged happily by the fire tonight....
Really really enjoying it so far, loved the twist at the end of ep3 at the last police interview
I think I’ll save up the next few episodes as well since The Crown is nearly here..

BigBadVoodooHat · 17/11/2020 11:32

Last night's episode was extremely weird: Hugh was bailed, so immediately went round to harass the grieving husband of the mistress he's charged with murdering, offered to take the baby away, then went on a talk show to discuss the crime he's been charged with and announce that he knows who did it. Confused

Looks like it's tipping over into extreme implausibility, which is a shame, but it's mostly what I expect from most TV programmes now Sad

Also, does anyone else find the detectives very very odd?

Yes, now that you mention it. They don’t seem to actually be investigating the crime, just hauling Nicole in every few days to ask her some cryptic questions.

The blonde lawyer lady.... hmmm I suspect that she was also having an affair with Hugh, (or young woman) found out about young woman & Hugh, went round, saw them in the throws, waited then murdered young woman... she is too suspicious, on the fringes of the story, why? What is her involvement??
Was Nicole having an affair with young woman??

Ooh the possibilities.

Love the lawyer lady...”muck”, love her brutality, “rich, entitled people”! Love it!

Oblomov20 · 18/11/2020 14:46

Just watched Episode 4. Where he's interviewed by his lawyer on tv.
Very odd. I don't know what to make of it all now.

GoogleWhacked · 23/11/2020 21:10

Anyone still watching this? Bits of it are annoying me & I was thinking of giving up, but big shock at the end of episode 5 which I just watched Shock

autumntimebrowns · 23/11/2020 21:15

I'm watching and I'm thinking what on earth is the son doing in the court room? Surely that's completely inappropriate. He's a child!

GoogleWhacked · 23/11/2020 21:19

That's exactly what I was thinking - who the hell would have their child in that court room listening to all that!
Also, would you really go out to a restaurant when you're a high profile murder suspect?

IHaveAGreyLamp · 23/11/2020 21:28

OMG big twist at end of Episode 5! Circle of suspects narrowing dramatically now!

bunintheoven88 · 23/11/2020 22:10

Holy moley did NOT see that coming!

itssquidstella · 23/11/2020 22:11

Omg

foofooyeah · 23/11/2020 22:15

My DH has suspected that for a couple of episodes. But I think there will be more twists.

Agree, who would go out to a restaurant at that time. And conversation with his mother was revealing.

Thedogisdrivingmemad · 23/11/2020 22:27

Can we talk about it yet?!
