I'll start : F-R-I-E-N-D-S

As others have already mentioned some of these, but...

Dexter (which I read is coming back next year, and I really hope it makes up for the quite lame ending!),

The Bridge - the original and the best in Scandi Noir, IMO! I think this would be the series I wish I'd not already seen so I could watch it again. Every time I see it's back on iPlayer it makes me so envious of the people watching it for the first time 😁

Green wing, which was one of the funnier comedies I'd seen, particularly the utterly ridiculous last ep of s1, and for some reason, first ep, where she's just started at the hospital and she's pulling along her case but with the handle down. That bit always has me laughing!

The IT Crowd was good; fav episode where he was 'leg disabled'! (I'm disabled and found it hilarious so I hope I'm not offending anyone else by this!)

There's bound to be more, mostly dramas as, actually, I don't generally watch comedies. I suppose Grey's Anatomy. Might have become less good as it's gone on, but I still really look forward to a new series (Sky, s17, I'm looking at you...I'm waiting to watch it on nowtv but have heard not available here until April, even though it's already started in the US. I quite like the spin off Starion 19 as well.

I loved Bones and The Mentalist. In the 'olden days', before my son left home those were the two main ones we'd sit and watch together each week when the new eps came out.

Similar, but different ('Patrick Jane' being in it), was The Guardian. Loved that. Think it was pre-Bones

Going back even further in time would have been Twin Peaks! I had to watch that every week., or at least video it if I was going out. You couldn't risk missing an episode, it was confusing and weird enough that even watching every single bit of it you were still left feeling a bit 'wtf was that?!' 😁

This Life also, if anyone remembers that?

Our Friends In The North, that too was great!

Sorry I meant *pre The Mentalist, not Bones.

And on the subject of The Bridge, has anyone watched The Tunnel and enjoyed it? I tried it, but not sure I even managed to get through whole first episode. I felt it seemed to be trying far too hard to make the characters as much like as possible as their Bridge counterpart, and I found I couldn't see past that, like it was almost forced, and seemed to take over anything else that was going on, so much so that I couldn't watch it! If anyone watched both (chronologically) and really loved the tunnel, please try and convince me why! I really need a push to try it again as it's still on one of my watchlists somewhere!

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 16/11/2020 15:16

Sorry, me again, but how could I forget Criminal Minds, Sherlock...

This is us
Six feet under

SapatSea · 16/11/2020 19:21

Survivors - the original series from the 1970's. Greg, Abby and the gang. The music and title sequence were perfect, still gives me the shivers. Totally fired my imagination and dreams as a child.

MotherofPearl · 16/11/2020 19:42

Loads mentioned on here, especially The Shield, but also:

Deadwood
Spiral (Engrenages)

newnewnewbuild · 16/11/2020 19:46

Ooh that's difficult!

Some of my ultimate ultimate favourites are only fools, life in pieces, this is us and jane the virgin

Chienloup · 16/11/2020 20:40

This Life.

More recently - This is Us.

cheapskatemum · 16/11/2020 20:52

Unforgotten
Shameless
Chernobyl
The Crown

Caeruleanblue · 18/11/2020 05:39

Flowers was a quirky (but short ) comedy

Versailles was good imv. Based loosely on historic events. Great settings (Versailles obviously), great costumes.

drigon · 18/11/2020 06:19

The Simpsons, (mostly first half of all series so far), This Life, The Good Life, Seinfeld, Monty Python. Some Peep Show. All excellent and so funny/interesting and original.
Also enjoy the 70s Columbo. So entertaining! The shows are well written and Peter Falk is funny and brilliant. I know they are formulaic but they are great on a Sunday afternoon!

drigon · 18/11/2020 06:21

Oh yeah, Deutschland 83 for more recent series..highly recommended.

shesellsseashells99 · 19/11/2020 14:30

I use to love Darling Buds Of May. Does anyone remember that?

Tanith · 19/11/2020 17:36

So many of these!

I'd add Porridge and Yes Minister/Prime Minister.

cheapskatemum · 21/11/2020 19:16

@shesellsseashells99 I loved The Darling Buds of May and referenced it often during the first lockdown as all my adult sons plus one girlfriend came back to live in our house in the countryside. Most people I mentioned it to remembered it’s. Some even responded with Pa Larkinisms (which I’ve forgotten). It launched Catherine Zeta Jones’ career, I believe?

SophieB100 · 21/11/2020 21:13

Too many!
Short list: Line of Duty, Last Tango in Halifax, Green Wing, Broadchurch.
This Life.

So, if I had to choose one - Last Tango in Halifax. Perfect case, and fantastic mix of drama and humour. Brilliant script.

Yes, Ma and Pa Larkin! I remember they always use to have a fry up in the bath together, with that tray across the middle 😂 A series you could watch with the whole family. Yes, a young Catherine Zeta Jones was in it.

HarrietOh · 09/12/2020 18:17

Thanks to this thread I have discovered the joy that is Detectorists!

teta · 09/12/2020 21:01

The original Brideshead Revisited with Jeremy Irons.
More recently Years and Years was a solutely brilliant. Plus the first couple of series of Last Tango in Halifax.

teta · 09/12/2020 21:03

Oh yes I forgot Chernobyl .
