Agree I hate fondant icing on anything.

ilovecardigans · 27/10/2020 21:08

Mark has exceptionally luxuriant hair and he is lovely.

But I think he's going home now, alas.

Jourdain11 · 27/10/2020 21:08

Mark to go? Or Hermine? Ot Laura? It's really tight at the bottom. Must be Lottie for SB.

ilovecardigans · 27/10/2020 21:12

Aww. Lovely Mark.😢

LunaLoveFood · 27/10/2020 21:12

Gutted mark has gone I really liked him.

maybejustmaybe · 27/10/2020 21:12

Oh that was so sad Mark going ☹️

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 27/10/2020 21:13

Agree fondant is a cop out!

I'm googling jiggly Japanese cheesecakes now, they look delish.
I didn't think the red food colouring or icing looked quite right on Lottie's but the elements sounded tasty.

jay55 · 27/10/2020 21:14

Mark was absolutely lovely, I am always a bit biased towards those who look like they enjoy eating their bakes.

kursaalflyer · 27/10/2020 21:14

Sounds like next week is a set-up. Making ice cream on the hottest day of the year. All the non-setting angst

FawnDrench · 27/10/2020 21:39

Not that keen on Lottie - "cake is boring" - eh? - but she deserved star baker and sadly Mark did deserve to go this week.

Noel's hair is annoying me nearly as much as Lottie's this week - it's all seems to be swinging about near the bakers and over their benches.

CherryValanc · 27/10/2020 23:18

I'm not overly bothered about Mark going. Fairly indifferent to him. Slightly puzzled as to why no one mentioned Peter's shuttlecock was a mess inside!!!

Utterly loathe matcha. So anything with that in tonight did not appeal. In fact only thing that appealed was Lottie's jiggle cake.

Lived in Japan for several years as a youngster and don't recall eating much in the way of cakes or sweet things except donuts, weirdly.

SequinsandStiIettos · 27/10/2020 23:21

No excuse for any of them not knowing what crescent means, not even Hermine, given that croissant means crescent in French.

CherryValanc · 27/10/2020 23:23

Oh yes, meant to say I think I'm fully bored of Noel and Matt. Not one 'joke' was even close to slightly amusing.

MaggieFS · 27/10/2020 23:30

I felt like David did more talking tonight than in all of the previous episodes combined. Starting to show his human side and came across well.

Sadly the right outcome for Mark.

That technical cake looked vile.

I like the idea of 80's week but it's starting to feel a bit gimmicky.

12in21 · 27/10/2020 23:47

So for Japanese week - they did Chinese buns, a made-up crepe cake (not sold or recognised in Japan) and then sponge cakes with fondant icing. An insult to Japanese cuisine. Why not daifuku or chiffon cake as the technical?

CherryValanc · 28/10/2020 00:00

Yes, the steam bun fillings weren't hitting the Japanese mark too much were they.

Even the chicken katsu curry fell into the usual error where that katsu is the sauce rather than the breaded chicken.

Acornsgalore · 28/10/2020 07:13

I like Lottie but I was surprised anyone would enter Bake Off not knowing how to make an Italian meringue (allegedly).

Very sorry to see Mark go. I thought his cake looked the best from the outside. Shame it didn't taste right! Something must have gone very wrong for it to be barely edible.

ShinyPie · 28/10/2020 07:50

I agree, if you were going to go on Bake Off, surely you'd practice every technique under the sun beforehand! I was baffled when Linda didn't how to make choux pastry.
CaptainMyCaptain · 28/10/2020 08:20

Linda said she did know how to make it but nerves got the better of her and she panicked.

ppeatfruit · 28/10/2020 08:40

I like Matcha, I live on green tea sometimes matcha but it's very expensive. knitting Bean paste is a strange consistency but it's very sweet. I always think of beans as savoury so the just the thought of them being sweet is off putting.

5foot5 · 28/10/2020 13:31

Right results but I was sad to see Mark go. He and Lottie seemed to have a good chemistry going on

IntermittentParps · 28/10/2020 14:02

Shiny, to nitpick, I think she didn't know how to do Swiss meringue? (I personally don't know the difference between one meringue and another, so I can't judge).

Loved Dave's and Marc-who-stayed cute cakes. Also Laura's mad pineapple. And I liked Hermine's –not kawaii, no, but rather elegant and spooky.

Sad Mark has gone as he's a nice guy, but he was a bit of a slapdash baker.

Dave had a fantastic week, and is seeming very very human (crying when Mark went!) I liked him from the start and am really chuffed to see him warming up.

I said 'What is he five?' along with Noel about Paul not liking gherkins.
Actually I said 'four' Grin

Mydogisagentleman · 28/10/2020 14:33

Hermine or Peter to win.
I was sad to see marc/k with luxuriant hair go

AndIquote · 28/10/2020 14:56

Noel was off jiggling David's arms while he was trying to pipe. I wonder when we are going to see something ruined by them twatting around? Last week it came close when they were smacking that ball and broke the wooden paddle board.

ppeatfruit · 29/10/2020 08:53

Ref. Paul's age and disliking gherkins. Noel can't talk about anyone else being childish when as you say Andiquote he thoughtlessly jiggled Dave's arm while he was using a piping bag. That could've had a serious outcome.

Yes I liked the Mark who was removed, he was funny. Not as serious as the other Marc though not such a good baker Grin.
