I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one with a dislike for Dave. My husband can’t understand why I don’t like him.

It was his reaction to Sura knocking his cakes on the floor at first. Granted it may have been edited but the way she was scrambling around getting them on the floor apologising while he just walked off looked so cold.

I also hate that he does a weird little shoulder shimmy thing when he gets any praise. He comes off as very cold and competitive and I just really irrationally dislike him.

Love Peter, quite sad Mark went though. Hermine is awesome. Ive thought since the start she was great but really underrated by the judges. She really knows her stuff, I think she should be the winner but who knows. Looking forward to the semi finals.

Katinski · 12/11/2020 20:39

I've just caught up with this-my first thought was"what's Ellen DeGeneres doing on Bake Off?"Grin
Anyone else think that Peter/Ellen might be bro and sister? I like him, btw, E.de G. not so much.
And yes, Hermine is great. Hope she brings some of her spicings to her food.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2020 20:41

@ilovecardigans

Trust me if I didn't laugh about the untold hours my husband slavishly devotes to driving an imaginary tank around imaginary battlefields, blowing up other imaginary tanks, I might well weep *@SchadenfreudePersonified*!

Klaxon! Extra Slice is on at 8 p.m. tonight and the wonderful Kathy Burke is in the studio. I cannot wait!! 😀

I suppose it keeps him out of mischief in these trying times cardigans

ppeatfruit · 13/11/2020 08:50

Just watched the recording of the end of Tuesday's . Yes that jelly flower trifle of Hermine's was AMAZ ING.....

I'll watch Kathy later Schady I like her too Grin

Lelophants · 13/11/2020 08:55

I find Peter quite arrogant and slightly psychopathic. Dave definitely psychopath.

ppeatfruit · 13/11/2020 09:00

They have both relaxed a bit now Lelophants not THAT bad surely! maybe they were just shy and frightened of the cameras etc. ..the studio atmosphere.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/11/2020 09:58

Dave's anecdotes, taken out of context, were a bit dull but actually quite endearing. I wonder how he'll be on Extra Slice.

melj1213 · 13/11/2020 10:13

For me, Dave looks a lot like the comedian Russell Kane so I'm expecting him to be funny ... but he isn't. Hes not only not funny, he's almost anti-humour.

I have never warmed to him, and I'm sure it's mostly down to editing and the fact this year was much more pressured but he just doesnt have any kind of rapport with anyone.

HeddaGarbled · 13/11/2020 10:20

That’s such a nasty thing to write.

iklboogeymum · 13/11/2020 12:03

There's absolutely nothing 'psychopathic' about Peter or Dave. Where do you extrapolate that from? Ridiculous.

5foot5 · 13/11/2020 12:19

Peter perfect the clean-scrubbed prefect for the win according to my DH.

But I want Hermine to win, as I find Peter a bit too earnest and over-positive.

I think Hermine should win. Based on the last two weeks alone she deserves to win. But I do have a soft spot for Peter and would be thrilled for him if he did win.

He is this year's Henry.

MaggieFS · 13/11/2020 14:59

I quite like Dave.

Not sure he's done anything to warrant being called something so mean. Each to their own in terms of likes/dislikes/who you find funny or irritating but not sure that he's done anything to deserve that.

I agree with you. He just seems a bit reserved and doesn't come across as well as others do. I feel a bit sorry that he has drawn the "hated" card this year. There's always one.
IntermittentParps · 13/11/2020 15:46

I like Dave too. Liked him from the start and think he's really warmed up. He's just not as obviously funny or kooky or otherwise busting with personality as some of the others, but he gets very passionate when talking about his bakes.

Lelophants · 13/11/2020 16:52

Oh dear, it was meant to be lighthearted 🙈sorry! I'm sure they're not, it just comes across a little that way on screen. It's probably the editing.

I think it's because he reminds me of this awful person I used to work it. Not his fault of course.

He has been my favourite from the start, in real life I naturally prefer people who are quieter, more reserved etc. Someone like Laura would drive me bonkers, even though she comes across brilliantly.
iklboogeymum · 13/11/2020 17:40

@SimonJT - yes, Laura is a bit too 'I'm mad, me'. I'm sure she's lovely but I'd probably find her wearing after a while.

@Lelophants - I'm sorry I didn't pick up you meant it as a joke Blush.

That's ok, it does look a bit harsh reading back. 😂

lynsey91 · 13/11/2020 19:03

I like Dave. I have liked him from the beginning and felt sorry for him when the human windmill knocked his bakes flying.

I would love to see him win although I doubt he will

ilovecardigans · 13/11/2020 21:31

I'm definitely warming to Dave this week. I think he may be one of those people who get so engrossed in the task at hand that they find it difficult to manage any form of distraction (AKA Noel or Matt). I'm a bit like that.

I bloody loved Jools Holland on Extra Slice. He has such a kindly face and was so sweet about not wanting anyone to leave the show, bless him. Many moons ago (when he was on The Tube) my mum met him in the paper shop of our local village (he used to have a holiday home in this area, I think) and she said he was very polite, quiet and unassuming.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/11/2020 01:09

Hello, I'm joining a bit late in the series!

I'm getting a bit fed up with Noel and Matt. I thought Matt wasn't too bad at first, but their jokes and asides now are often a bit nasty, or based around things that aren't funny (I don't watch Bake Off for jokes about poo).

I think I'd like Hermine to win now. That poppy was amazing this week. Although the showstoppers seem to be getting less and less like things I'd actually like to eat! I like a pond pudding, my grandma used to do individual ones with probably an eighth of a lemon in each.

I'm going to look at the book suggestion too. I don't think we're sheep, it's that we all subconsciously feel the programme is missing something without the history bits, so are replicating them ourselves!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/11/2020 01:10

Speaking of suggestions, I've watched the first series of The Great Canadian Baking Show recently, which feels much more like BBC Bake Off. The presenters are lovely and seem really keen to try the baking. (That's the other thing that annoys me about Noel and Matt, why do it if you don't really like cake? Mel and Sue didn't know much about baking, but were always very happy to sample it!). Their tent is a bit sturdier, and they occasionally put moose in their pies, but I'd recommend it.

foilflower · 14/11/2020 08:07

@dementedma

I get confused by the references to Dave on here. In our house he is called Andrew due to his doppelganger resemblance to DD2 ex-bf and I forget that nobody but us calls him Andrew!
I call him that too (in my head!) as he looks just like an ex colleague!
