What I found strange about last night's decision is that, in the deliberations, they actually referred to Lottie struggling with the showstoppers each week, so it sounded like they were kicking her out on the basis of poor past performances. In previous series, however, they have kicked someone out for one poor round, saying that they can't take previous good rounds into consideration.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/11/2020 12:57

Glad Hermine got Star baker but Dave was lucky Lottie's showstopper failed.

malificent7 · 04/11/2020 13:03

Why don't they have air con in the tent?!

Nydj · 04/11/2020 13:08

I can’t quite get my head around the fact that Lottie didn’t have her ice cream as the inside with a chocolate cake on the outside.

It was never going to work!
ultragroupie · 04/11/2020 13:57

Poor Lottie.. but putting baked beans in a quiche meant I had limited sympathy this time!

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/11/2020 14:21

Baked beans in a quiche - just vile.

SequinsandStiIettos · 04/11/2020 14:28

God yes. I love baked beans but no. Although thought it a bit rich Hollywood saying to Prue they must keep an open mind when he insisted on no gherkins last week.
The posh-ish quiche I bought the other day had edamame beans in too. I still have no idea why.

IntermittentParps · 04/11/2020 15:31

Secondly , Arctic Roll is not an ice cream cake. It's Arctic Roll.
It's a type of ice cream cake, surely? Unlike Viennetta. Hmm to whoever wrote that bit of the script.

I thought it was a bit unfair about Lottie. I think that whereas she makes the odd big misjudgement, Laura makes mistakes quite often (which I think Paul actually said) – she had tough doughnut bread this week, for starters. She's not quite as consistently good as Lottie.

Dave redeemed himself with his showstopper. I was pleased; I like him. I don't know why everyone is so scandalised about scrambled egg in a quiche!

Marc's showstopper was lovely to look at but maybe had too many flavours.

Hermine deserved star baker.

iklboogeymum · 04/11/2020 17:02

Hermine's smoked salmon quiche sounded lovely. I might try & make it myself.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/11/2020 19:33

Hermine has recipes on Instagram although I'm not sure if that one is on.

CassandrasCastle · 04/11/2020 20:30

Nooooo, Lottie Sad My fave gone

Me too! I’m quite fascinated by her, she’s such an interesting mixture of characteristics. And really gorgeous.
It’s a girl crush.

ParadeOfRemotes · 04/11/2020 23:06

Sad Lottie's gone. Really thought Laura should have.

Peter was brilliant in every possible way AS ALWAYS. I'm an unapologetically a Peter Super Fan

I really want that deep-fried ice cream from a few pages back. Was that at the Three Chimneys? If so I'm incredibly jealous. It's on the bucket list once the DC can manage the drive to Skye.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 04/11/2020 23:11

Slightly behind as only just watching this weeks. So avoiding the last few pages of comments.
Just wanted to say I fucking love quiche.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 05/11/2020 00:30

Glad Hermine got star baker I love her a bit. Also glad Lottie went, she annoys me. Although she is gorgeous. I would kill for her hair.

I made quiche for the first time recently (although I didn't make the pastry). I was surprised how easy it was, despite my Mum always telling me its easy Grin
I might have to make it again soon. I might even attempt the pastry. Although that would require a dish of the correct size. I don't have one. Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas.

bibliomania · 05/11/2020 07:52

Will miss Lottie. The programme needed her wit.

ppeatfruit · 05/11/2020 09:55

Whatwillsanta Not only did Lottie struggle with some of her past show stoppers, she certainly effed up this week's Grin . So she had to go!

Hermine's was so elegant (so French). I loved it. And her little boy saying he was proud of her , made me cry !!!

kursaalflyer · 05/11/2020 10:09

Interesting that Prue commented that Hermine takes simple/classic bakes and does them well, this sounds like a good reason that Hermine won't win if it comes down to the wire.

ppeatfruit · 05/11/2020 10:18

kursaal Well I'm not so sure, simple and elegant (esp. with good flavours) is better than mad like an upside down shuttlecock cake!!

IMO the judges take the flavours into account if there was a tie break.

IntermittentParps · 05/11/2020 10:20

The weird thing is that just a couple of weeks ago they were on about how original her bakes were.

Yes. I think she does both innovative flavour combinations and classics really well. I was a bit worried about her "classic" quiches as I thought they were a bit too simple, but she executed them really well. If she messed them up, then that would have been a problem.
SkepticalCat · 05/11/2020 10:43

I've just been thinking - you know in the final episode they bring back all the bakers, plus their families for the celebratory picnic?

I wonder if that will happen this year? It would only be allowed if all the eliminated bakers remained in the Bake Off bubble, so didn't actually go home. (But Laura said the other week she was working out what to pack first, and which route she should take to get home...)

Obviously if they did go home after being eliminated, then they wouldn't then be allowed back in the Bake Off bubble for the last episode celebration...

I guess we'll see what happens in the final episode.

IntermittentParps · 05/11/2020 11:14

SkepticalCat, that's a good point! It'll be sad if they can't have a picnic. I wonder if they've just been asked to talk about 'going home' to keep up a fiction/idea about it, but have in fact continued to bubble even after being kicked out. I hope so!

MaggieFS · 05/11/2020 12:08

Could they have managed a socially distanced picnic? Wouldn't be quite the same, but possible.
