Anyone else getting excited? The Diana trailer looks great. It's on Netflix on 15th November.

I wonder if the next series will show Diana meeting journalists and arranging 'seemingly accidental' photo shoots. She became a very shrewd media operator.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 26/11/2020 18:31

Series 4 was very brutal & harsh just like the 80s were.
I didn't enjoy it as much as the other series.
It also seemed a bit cobbled together & rushed.
The last episode was good but sad & the acting was superb.

I’m a week late so someone must have posted this already

But in case anyone’s not seen it

Brilliant stuff!

I find the posture of Prince Charles totally wrong- is it meant to be symbolic?

TheCrowsHaveEyes · 27/11/2020 13:35

I think someone said the posture might be to try to hide the height difference because the actor is much taller than Charles so if he didn't slump, Charles' and Diana's heights would be off.

melisande99 · 27/11/2020 13:57

No, the actor said in an interview that he deliberately stooped more and more as Charles got older, to suggest the metaphorical weight on him as well as just ageing him a bit (Charles does have a bit of a stoop).

Not sure Emma Corrin is as tall as Diana. But then the first Margaret (Vanessa what's her name) was much taller than Margaret was and towered over the Queen (then lost a foot overnight when Helena BC took over the role), so I don't think the producers are really bothered about that.

AcornAutumn · 27/11/2020 14:22

I see a slight stoop in Charles but the way the actor hangs his head looks like it’s about to drop off!

Newgirls · 01/12/2020 21:02

Brilliant series. The last scene with the queen and thatcher was ace very moving. I say that as someone who would never vote Tory 😂

The c and d actors were amazing and considering their episodes covered 8-9 years it made sense to me what the writers chose.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/12/2020 21:15

I found that quite unconvincing.

Newgirls · 01/12/2020 21:35

😂 each to their own!

the80sweregreat · 02/12/2020 17:33

I've not watched this at all but ( as per my user name) as I do remember the 80s , Diana ' mania' The Falklands etc so decided to give this series a go! It's hilarious.
The Queen being a bit bored by Charles was so funny. Anne as an uptight horsey ' gal' Andrew the dashing helicopter pilot and Edward the poor bullied one ! Diana watching Bugpuss!
I'm sure none of that actually went on but it's compelling and I think Olivia Colman is brilliant!
GA is fine as the controversial Mrs Thatcher. It's made me smile and I needed that. Not sure I'll watch the others though..
Took me back to the 80s! ..

MarshaBradyo · 02/12/2020 17:35

Princess Di actress was perfect in this

Loved Charles and Phillip still

Still not warming to OC

the80sweregreat · 02/12/2020 17:49

The Diana actress is perfect. As is Camilla.
I can see that maybe some of it might be a little bit true , but mostly it's just someone imagining this is how it was! It probably was a lot worse ! ..
I remember Mark Thatcher : he was another playboy type. They seemed to be everywhere back then! 😂

MarshaBradyo · 02/12/2020 17:52

I found the royal family so incredibly rude. If they really did treat Thatcher like that at Balmoral then they have zero grace

They treated Diana like rubbish so it doesn't surprise me ( if it's true)
Newgirls · 03/12/2020 08:20

The family come across as very guarded even towards each other so it sort of makes sense how they had no idea how to get on with Diana. For them she was doing ‘a job’ like they I think the series showed how they got to that point, the barriers they put up, the isolation etc and how all the marriages seemed to fail eg Anne and Andrews (Sarah is seen to be smiley and fun and then we know she goes too.)

When is the next series 😬

crankysaurus · 03/12/2020 08:53

Late to this thread not have just caught up on series 4. The one with the sisters in the institute made me so sad, I've loved Princess Margaret's portrayal but that one on particular was very powerful.

the80sweregreat · 03/12/2020 09:06

Charles was a bit of a playboy in the 70s hanging out with celebs and models for a while ( hard to believe I know) 'the Sun 'used to show photos of him actually having a bit of fun.
As heir to the throne doing that had to stop so they quickly reined it in hoping Diane would tow the line and be the perfect wife. Do your duty and all that.
She didn't. All as bad as each other when it came to that marriage sadly.
She was far too young and immature for him. He was in love with someone else of course. Tragic really.

I'm pretty sure Margaret's role in uncovering the mystery was just a dramatic device, though.

That was pretty much entirely invented for dramatic purposes. Like the vast majority of scenes this series Hmm.

Do people honestly believe that's exactly what happened? It's drama not a documentary.
MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2020 07:16

Well no that’s why I said if it happened Hmm

Silly comments

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/12/2020 07:21

Also Thatcher wouldn't have been so clueless about the arrangements there and what to pack. She had advisors and the experience of previous PMs to prepare her.

MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2020 07:23

The line re pardon over what was very clunky. And did sound highly scripted. Which some might prefer as drama but better closer to reality for me. People might not have a clue what that was though.

HagenDaz · 04/12/2020 07:25

Am currently on episode 8. Emma Corrin is stunning as Diana. I feel that Olivia Colman is too Mumsy for The Queen and the stark difference between the portrayals by Claire Foy/ OC as demonstrated in the Commonwealth episode is striking.

MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2020 07:27

Agree Hagen on both
