Anyone waiting for This is Us season 5? Hopefully will show in UK end of October! Anyone who hasn't watched it, I would strongly recommend it!

I thought he lived on a boat when he first came on the scene but might have imagined it.

But, there is looking after and there is ensuring that 90 tons of clutter are perfectly dusted and clean and shiny! Looks like a full time job to me.

SapatSea · 14/01/2021 15:10

Indeed. the kitchen was stocked with boxes of cereal and the like. Looked very much lived in. The writers tricked us making us think Hai lived in Vietnam on a boat when New Orleans with its weather, wooden houses and river is just the same!

Like others I kept thinking what about the other relatives, grandparents etc? Hai claimed Laurel wanted to contact Randall later, especially when ill. She knew William's surname and where he was living when with her so I think even if she couldn't afford to travel back to Philly or hire a PI, she could have put out social media alerts etc. It only cost $1500 for Randal to hire a PI and find William (how?) and he had very little information. Would that PI if he managed to trace William not also have traced Laurel, maybe even first, as she would have flagged up as having had a baby on the right date and brought into hospital. Some neighbour would have seen Laurel being taken to hospital and word gotten to William since he lived there for the next 36 years. Nah, the story just doesn't hold up to much scrutiny.

I'll keep watching though, suspending my "disbelief."

They do sugarcoat most of the in the past relationships as great love stories.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/01/2021 15:16

Why wouldn't Randall even ever look for his mum's death certificate to see if it mentions anything that could have helped trace any other family?

The more I think about it the more bonkers it is.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 14/01/2021 15:31

I thought this was all a a bit preposterous tbh, more believable if she had been strung out on drugs or homeless but this story had way too many holes in it.
Hopefully Randall cheers the hell up now, I like the actor I thought he was great in the People vs OJ Simpson but Randall is tedious now.

Will still keep watching obvs Grin

my thoughts exactly.

Still hacked off with the whole covid bits which they've now had to shoehorn into the dialog/story having started it at the beginning.

After reading your posts I have just got episode 1 ready to watch tonight. I can't wait. I now have something to look forward to!!!!!!

They're just trying to make it wholesome and sweet. It ruined it for me, it's not realistic. Two wonderful, emotionally stable, insightful drug addict that made just one mistake Hmm
baileysisforme · 14/01/2021 20:51

I was so disappointed with the Covid references in this season like I haven't heard about that enough??

EasterIssland · 14/01/2021 20:59

I liked s6 but still doesn’t make much sense like to many of you.

Worried about Kevin driving like mad to get on time. Maybe I’m thinking too much

It jars a bit that we are supposed to suspend belief about all sorts of glossed over plot holes; yet need to know exactly who has quarantined and tested so we are not distracted by that in a scene. Except I find Laurel's stocked and yet supposedly deserted house more odd. And the lack of baby Jack.
WaxOnFeckOff · 15/01/2021 12:22

I think all they needed to do was be upfront and put a message at the beginning of episodes to say that they filmed during covid so there are some limitations including some characters being unable to be shown.

Then just do it as well as they could with no further reference.

@WaxOnFeckOff

Can we arrange to reconvene to ask questions or are those who've not yet watched avoiding the thread?
I think once it’s been shown on prime it’s fair game to discuss

And those who haven’t seen avoid thread till they have

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2021 07:57

I’m a little confused. So Laurel came from a rich well known family

Yet she ran way without any money

And ended up being a herion addict

Plus when on trial as well known family why wasn’t her dad /family called

I was half expecting for him to say Laurel and I had a child. This is your sister /neice

Nannyamc · 16/01/2021 08:08

Truly remarkable tv. Love it.
To those who have never seen it download amazon prime free for 30 days. Start at season 1 it will get you thru lockdown and more.

We know he’s fine we see him in the future with older twins
Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2021 08:32

@TodgerStrunk

I'm not buying it in any way other than the show runners saw a loophole, that given they hadn't shown her actual dead body being buried on screen, they could get a few episodes out of her being brought back to life.

Why would Randall just drive away and not look for his grandparents or any one other than Hai who knew Laurel?

I’m assuming as mum Laurel was 60/70 that aunt and parents dead as would be 100

So parents house wouid be laurels as well ? Unless they disowned her

Did she live in Aunty S house now hers abs no contact with parents

Did she think William had Randall

Or know he was adopted

1990s · 16/01/2021 14:41

And wouldn’t she have loads of cash being the only remaining child of that rich family? Not that relevant but just a thought I had Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2021 16:26

Unless they disowned her

The house she had was her aunts

hohohopeless · 17/01/2021 15:57

I wondered what happened to the parents house and estate too.

barebetty · 17/01/2021 21:47

I thought the latest episode was brilliant. I actually liked the fact they mentioned quarantining. It was one line, but made it feel current.

I think it's so well written, and I Shazam lots of the songs. So emotional. Every scene seems to have substance.

I think it's my favourite TV programme ever. I can't think of anything else 'told' that way Smile

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/01/2021 11:26

I want to find out how Rebecca and Miguel got together. I don't think that has ever been properly explained.

Miguel's just a bit bland in comparison to the Lovely Jack. Alcoholism aside.

SapatSea · 18/01/2021 13:54

IIRC Miguel had moved to Texas(?) well away somewhere to work and he reconnected when Rebecca posted on Facebook that Beth had had her first baby. I wonder if he moved because he had fallen for Rebecca as he was helping her out a lot after Jack's death and he had always said "she was the gold standard of wife" when Jack was with her but felt it was wrong.

I like Miguel, he's calm and kind. I really disliked "big man, Mr Fixit" drama llama Jack.

RandomGrammarPun · 18/01/2021 17:12

I liked that scene in the bar last series when Miguel, Beth and Toby are chatting and complaining about how hard it is marrying into the family. I think that dynamic could be explored more. It sort of brought into relief how much less self - obsessed those three are than their respective partners, too.

SapatSea · 18/01/2021 17:50

I liked that scene too. It would be exhausting being with any of the big three.
