We have been following Our Girl since 2014 and although there are to be no further series, we revisit time and time again to discuss. As an alternative, we are also watching the 1990s series of Soldier Soldier.

Yeah - Molly knows what class looks like now!

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:44

Molly and Smurf are back to being good friends. They pass Buckingham Palace and Smurf talks about her upcoming medal ceremony.

We learn that Smurf is about to see an army psychiatrist to talk through his issues but then intends leaving the army. He's going to be a car mechanic with his uncle.

I hate this next bit.

Molly takes Smurf to West Ham's ground. She's thinking about doing the circuit of the ground on match day.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:47

And it's goodbye Smurf, RIP.

Ah, I remember this but.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:47

Smurf has some sort of stroke/seizure. This is so terribly sad.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:48

Poor Mrs Smurf...

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:48

As you say Rhu, pretty disjointed. Molly is in the funeral car with MRs Smurf and I assume his grandparents.

CJ does a lovely reading by Dylan Thomas.

Poor Mrs Smurf. We never know about Mr Smurf...

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:50

It must be so hard for Mrs Smurf. "I gave the army my boys and all I got back was this flag".

Molly goes back into the church to talk to CJ. It's a rather odd, strained conversation she has with him.

Back to Afghan she goes. This time to train Afghan medics.

She has really gained in confidence. Who would have thought that young girl on the tarmac at Brize Norton would be doing this?

Qaseem stands at the back of the lecture theatre.

It all seemed so sad and final when CJ spoke to Molly in the church. You can see he is disappointed that she's going, but you feel like that's the end.

It's good that Molly goes back and demonstrates how far she has travelled since she first arrived in Afghanistan.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:53

It's good that we see a conclusion to the Bashira story - do you remember how the announcer at the start told us to make sure we stayed watching to the very end of the credits - I'm so glad we were given that instruction.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:54

She begs Qaseem to take her to Bashira. I don't think he looks too happy to do it but he drives her there. Molly is in disguise as his wife.

I get the impression that there really should have been another episode. A bit like the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice, where they squeezed about a quarter of the book into the last (sixth) episode.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:56

Molly sees Bashira again. Such a nice moment. It was a fitting end too.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:58

A lovely happy ending to the Bashira story.

To be honest Rhu I didn't see the very ending that first time and had to rewind my recording!

Here it is! No 21 Royal Crescent. There were still dead topiary trees in those pots the last time I was in Bath and met you Rhu.

Loved this final bit at the end.....ah!!!

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:59

I remember a poster who is no longer on these threads describing the scene where Molly goes back to see CJ at the end very eloquently as a "little bonbon at the end of a perfect meal".

Now what?

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 22:01

Gosh, I had forgotten just how much I loved that final episode. I watched it over and over and over again for days afterwards.

Now we go back to Soldier Soldier I think eejit. Have we two more series to go at, I've forgotten and might need to watch a couple of episodes to get me back in the zone as it were.

Haven't been round the Royal Crescent for a long time to check if they're still there ilove.

eejit - we always felt that there was a lot missing or cropped from that final episode. It jumps around a lot. I think we all would have liked there to have been one more episode.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 22:04

Must agree about the restaurant scene - it's a little gem!
