We have been following Our Girl since 2014 and although there are to be no further series, we revisit time and time again to discuss. As an alternative, we are also watching the 1990s series of Soldier Soldier.

Well Rhu I thoroughly enjoyed reading that original thread. I had read it before but as a sort of catch up as I remember finding Mumsnet and the OG thread at around number four and then of course going back and reading all previous ones. Some between one and where I picked up were great I remember and actually acquired a lot of new posters, so if by any chance you have a link to any of those I'd love to read them.

Reading this original thread has reminded me how many viewers with military connections picked lots of holes in the presentation etc and yet how so many, me included, had just totally enjoyed it. Especially Captain James of course who very soon became just CJ. I agree it has actually always been more about the character of CJ rather than the actor BA. I think that is probably why Series 3 was so painful as quite honestly they decimated his character supposedly to portray PTSD.

One of the things that amused me in the thread was lots of posters mentioned that they had children as old as CJ and therefore it was a bit blush making to be obsessing about him - let's face it I've got two grandchildren that age!!Blush

Nice to see lots of comments from you on there Ilove

eejittwo · 21/10/2020 11:08

Rhu, can you find when the second series started?

Rhubarb01 · 21/10/2020 15:18

Here you go eejit - I think I might enjoy these too. I think series 2 split opinions - lovers and haters of Elvis but all pretty passionate about it either way!

Rhu thank you so much for finding that first thread. I had totally forgotten about some of the posters on there. I am in fact still friends with two of them on Facebook but the rest of them had gone out of my mind. Remember lovely cherin who, I think, was Italian and had some great artistic skills and started our stags theme going?

Gosh, I'd forgotten how much I'd posted there. I'd even set a question a bit like an O level (ahem, showing my age, maybe that should be GCSE) to discuss! Eeeek. I do remember how nervous I was about posting that very first time and was worried my friends and colleagues would somehow be able to track me down through it.

I've not even finished that first thread yet so haven't progressed onto the other two Rhu has kindly posted. Somebody had made a comment about lovely Major Rory when she referenced Soldier Soldier to compare it with OG and it made me laugh as I think we were all fond of him in our watchalongs of that series.

Like magi commented, most of us seemed to be old enough to be CJ's mother and were frankly embarrassed and amazed how we had a crush on him.

Enough of my drivel for one night. I will aim to finish off that first thread tomorrow.

Don't want to appear too flippant but when I heard about the SF rescue off the coast of the Isle of Wight on Sunday, I couldn't help but think of Elvis dropping down a rope from a helicopter. I know it was a different arm and the SBS, but I still couldn't help fantasising.....

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 13:39

Ditto ilove. The moment I heard choppers and fast ropes there was no other thought in my mind Grin

eejittwo · 27/10/2020 14:06

We really are a lost cause. I like to think that Spanner and Blue and Peanut are still out there, ready to come to the rescue.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 14:43

Haha eejit.

Not sure if anyone has been watching "Roadkill" on BBC1 on Sunday night but Maisie from OG series 2 and 3 is in it. It took me a couple of minutes to recognise her for some reason.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 20:53

I've watched the first two episodes although I've twice fallen asleep during episode 2. I was intending to binge watch it, but I don't seem to have the attention span.

I noticed "Maisie's" name in the credits. Although I can see it's her, she seems so different in this. Nice to see her in something else though.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 20:59

Glad I wasn't the only one to doze off watching it Rhu. It didn't grab my attention overly, I have to say.

Two snoring cats next to me tonight. They've hardly moved all day. The weather has been terrible this afternoon.

I'm ready to go for the last episode. Bring it on!

Pressed play - doing the recap

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:01

Pressed play and Molly dashes off to the hospital.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:02

The helicopter lands back at Bastion and Molly leaps off that chopper and runs faster than Usain Bolt - wouldn't we all!

Everyone looks shell shocked. Molly is searching for CJ. He appears on a trolley - oven ready - as some might say. So is Smurf - He is desperate and he is also mad as hell! Molly stands there soaked in blood, wondering what she had done.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:04

Molly is being debriefed and is finding it very tough. She can't understand how she was hit. She feels so responsible for what happened to both CJ and Smurf.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:04

We often forget that Molly killed someone too and that must have shaken her a great deal too.

I don't think CJ would have porn - how very dare you!!!

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:05

Molly goes through the after action report with Major Beck. He can tell that she's not coping and asks Kinders to sort out an appointment with the doctor.

On the way out of Beck's office, she says to Kinders that she'll sort out CJ's kit for it to be sent back to the UK. I cringe every time he tells her to make sure there's no porn in amongst it. Our lovely CJ would never need to resort to porn!

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:05

Sad thoughts of being with CJ in his room. I don't think she would really have been allowed to go through his stuff. Surely a more senior officer would have done that.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:06

Some lovely flashbacks as she goes through it all.

She sees the photos of his little boy and his divorce papers which are seven months old by now!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:06

This is the first time that we see something personal about CJ - and we see that the divorce is true and had come through.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:07

She says goodbye to Qaseem who is going back to Kabul.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:07

Molly sees Qaseem as he is preparing to leave and got back to civvie life. Molly is still worrying about Bashira. He wants to put her off, but she won't let it go. They shake hands.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:09

Now here we are in Cyprus - Molly is on the beach trying to forget what happened without any success. She talks to Kinders who thinks that she is stressing about Smurf. She is worried at first that he means CJ.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2020 21:09

They are in Cyprus for decompression (I'd never heard of the term pre-OG) and the lads display high jinks on the beach.

Kinders has the misguided view that she and Smurf were an item. I suppose Molly must be relieved her secret isn't out but then finds out CJ is suffering complications from the shooting.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2020 21:10

Complications are seldom good!

eejittwo · 27/10/2020 21:11

Just seeing the boys larking in the beach - v like the beach scene in Kenya. TG didn’t’t really have much imagination.
