I'm really behind as only watched ep 5 ystd on catch up. Another enjoyable episode, their lovely golden retriever is still missing though and none of them have noticed!!

JaneJeffer · 06/10/2020 21:35

He's back Girlie

When are James and Helen going to get together?

JaneJeffer · 06/10/2020 22:00

Christmas special confirmed.

SirGawain · 06/10/2020 22:10

Not in this series.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/10/2020 22:19

I wonder what happens to Hugh? I don't remember there being a love rival in the books?

I'm really sad it's finished, enjoyed the whole series.

Maireas · 06/10/2020 22:32

In the books poor James always manages to embarrass himself in front of Hugh, while trying to impress Helen!

EternalOptimist7 · 07/10/2020 00:22

Very sad it’s over & loved it - roll on the Christmas special! We need more innocent, family friendly dramas like this.

Ginger1982 · 07/10/2020 07:08

Loved it. Definitely can't wait for the Christmas special. Enjoyed Siegfried in a cardigan 🥰😆

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/10/2020 08:24

Siegfried suffering man flu was hilarious 😂 I hope James's parents come down for a visit at some point.

JaneJeffer · 07/10/2020 08:35

It was strange that his mother didn't send a card or letter with his birthday present.

AlternativePerspective · 07/10/2020 08:39

I wonder what happens to Hugh? I don't remember there being a love rival in the books? There was, Richard Emerson. I don’t know he was a rival as such but the Emerson’s were old family friends of the Aldersons and Mr Alderson was reputed to fancy him as a future son-in-law.

Hugh is just a nasty bloke though isn’t he? But it’s sort of underlying. So hopefully he will mess up once too often and she’ll get rid of him.

JaneJeffer · 07/10/2020 08:44

They seemed to be hinting he has a drink problem.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2020 09:44

For all Kindle readers, the books are on offer for 99p each today. I've bought 4.

GiantKitten · 07/10/2020 11:49

They’ve changed the titles!!! Angry

Thanks for the heads-up, Captain! I’m buying them, but why did they have to change the titles? Alf Wight must be spinning Sad
GiantKitten · 07/10/2020 11:53

Oh, they’re omnibus versions!
I’ll let them off then Hmm

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2020 13:52

I didn't know about the titles. I hope they're not all the same books.

GiantKitten · 07/10/2020 15:23

No, I’ve checked!
There are 2 old titles in each of the first 3; the 4th one is a single title; & I think the last one is a late round-up of unused (I hope!) stories - first published in the early 90s.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2020 15:28

That's Ok then.

5foot5 · 07/10/2020 16:42

Well I have loved this series and am so sad it is over for now. Roll on the Christmas Special and series 2. It is just the sort of gentle, undemanding, lovely to look at TV we need right now.

I read some of the books as a teenager but not since then so I think I will have to get them for a re-read.

purpleme12 · 07/10/2020 17:13

I loved it too

SallySeven · 07/10/2020 18:02

I thought all the leads were good. The location filming was lovely. Well done channel 5!

Presumably she's only agreed to marry Hugh so that her family could be comfortable.
Rosehip10 · 07/10/2020 18:19

There were some pictures in the paper of filming with Helen in the back of a posh car with what looks like a veil on?

Maireas · 07/10/2020 18:43

I agree that the leads are all good. Siegfried and Tristan are very funny together and there's good chemistry. It's been a real treat, such a short series, though.
