Loved it... Have facetimed in the past with Sam West when ds2 got to work with him. He's lovely...
Why the Jeff is a Cornish product sponsoring a Yorkshire programme.. Yorkshire Tea would have been far better...

I loved the books and the first series, but must admit I was a bit disappointed by this version.
Mrs Hall is much too present and it all looks too clean.

I thought it was delightful

I'm not sure. I didn't enjoy the original series as it wasn't a patch on the books, this is ok, beautiful scenery but not great. Mrs Hall is nothing like the character in the books, James is a bit too emotional, Siegfried not as eccentric as I remember, his house not as I remember it from the books either. Not sure if I'll keep watching.

I thought it was excellent - it captures much more of the period feel than the previous series.

I really liked it! And I'm a big fan of the books and the 80s series too.

I really enjoyed it. I’m sure I recognise some of the houses from the original.

I can't imagine the farmer would have been terribly reassured by all that gasping and flopping around doing that calving.

We enjoyed it but can’t fathom why it is on at 9pm on Tuesday- surely it’s Sunday evening post countryfile viewing?

They’ve got Siegfried all wrong. He wasn’t a bully ffs! And despite being eccentric he wasn’t a grumpy fucker. Anyway I will stick with it because I loved the books and the original series.

It has the same problem that things always have when they're taken from something written in the first person — lack of internal voice. BBC's idea for the voiceover with Call the Midwife is quite helpful for that.

I enjoyed it. I've not seen the original TV series but I remember reading one of the books as a child but can't remember enough to compare it to this. I've missed having something easy to watch when the kids have gone to bed so this seems perfect.

I too keep comparing to the books and 1980's series. Love the beautiful Yorkshire scenes, but agree that Mrs Hall is far slimmer, younger, more helpful and vaguely prettier than I'd ever imagined!

I'd read that Christopher Timothy couldnt do a convinving Scottish accent, hence he used his own accent in the 80's series. At least part is alighned to the books.

Very disappointed. Too sentimental and James is unprofessional. Why do they feel the need to rewrite the books?

I couldn't agree more. I wanted to see the stores as told in the books. I have friends who knew the real Alf white. And they said he was lovely.

I have really enjoyed it so far. I remember the originals and so far I think this compares favourably. And it has the music!

I really enjoyed it and can't wait for next week, also loved the books and the 1980s series. I thought Helen was more what I imagined in this series than in the old one.

Agree Tuesday night is an odd time for it though!!

Agree Tuesday night is an odd time for it though!!

The producers probably realised that there’s a bunch of old codgers out there who would compare it unfavourably to the original series, which finished 30 years ago regardless of what they did with the remake. Putting it on on a “bigger” night of the week would be asking for trouble.

I enjoyed the original. I enjoyed this. I can’t compare the 2, since well - 30 years have passed - and I’m not the same person I was when i was 13!

It's a bit early to decide we won't see the stories as told in the books, isn't it?
