@GiantKitten that would have been more effective if they hadn't put the music on. Not much silenzio there Grin
True Grin

There are a few Silenzio ones, I don’t know if they all have music. This wasn’t actually the one I was looking for, which was longer, & had the drone cutting through some sculptures, & also went over the top of the Pantheon - I was v disappointed it didn’t drop inside for a snoop round! Can’t find that one now though.

I love drone films. There was a series on Ch 4 a while ago where they went into places like Camelot (abandoned theme park in Lancs) and Wentworth Woodhouse (gigantic, nearly-abandoned, stately home in Yorks). They should only ever be used for that IMO Smile

I think I might have seen some of those. Was it George Clarke?

I don’t know, I’ll have to search.

I’ve found the Rome one I remembered though - done by “dirty seagulls” Grin

Presented by Tony Robinson. All the links seem to lead to actual programmes so I can’t see any production information Confused

Seen 'Hidden Britain by Drone'? Watch it here on All 4:

Thanks Giant

I've loved this series and agree that it's just what was needed - some gentle, funny at times familiarity with a modern twist. I shall miss it until the Christmas special.

JaneJeffer · 13/10/2020 20:12

Going to miss having this to watch tonight.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/10/2020 21:37

Me too but I've started reading the books I bought on my kindle.

CounsellorTroi · 13/10/2020 23:40

Why has Helen been portrayed as an incompetent baker? She was nothing of the sort in the books.

Rosehip10 · 14/10/2020 06:11

As TV adaptions are never true to books? And just to add some more humour. Also to emphasise for the audience that Helen is happier working on the farm with the animals than "domestic" type stuff

Chaotic45 · 14/10/2020 07:37

I loved this series. I'm really missing it, can anyone suggest anything else to watch? I think Covid has changed my viewing habits- I no longer fancy thrillers or anything too dark.

LilyLongJohn · 14/10/2020 07:42

I loved that Tristan was happy for James in the last episode, no jealousy or the usual negativity that tv programs thrive on these days.

I'm warming to Mrs Hall, but I still feel she's a bit too young - it is that me being too old Smile

Clawdy · 14/10/2020 08:19

They're making her much more central to the storylines than she is in the books, as well as being younger. I wonder if they decided the main cast was almost all male, except for Helen, and they needed another strong female role.

Ohfrigginghellers · 14/10/2020 09:34

I love it!

I think this is probably right.
EerilyDeleted · 14/10/2020 17:45

I think that's probably right too about increasing the contribution of the female characters.

hels71 · 14/10/2020 20:04

We loved it in our house. Especially DD 13. Can't wait for the Xmas special. Think Samuel West is brilliant

JaneJeffer · 17/10/2020 11:07
this popped up on my YouTube
CaptainMyCaptain · 19/10/2020 10:20

I've just finished the first of the books on my Kindle. I am horrified by the casual acceptance of drunk driving and the dilapidated state of the cars. Things have certainly changed, thank goodness for the drunk driving laws and the MOT. Of course, there were far fewer cars on the road then but, presumably, more pedestrians at risk.

Health & safety wasn’t a thing, was it. I think we tend to have quite a romantic idea of life back then, especially in the countryside, but it could be pretty grim. I’m into the second book now and still really enjoying the stories Smile

@diddl ..... thanks for your spoiler! I've never read the books or watched the original series.... Shock

Oh no, I'm so sorry.

Thoughgt that it had already been alluded to earlier in the thread.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/12/2020 09:56

My friends who live in that area and used to know the real Alf White and also know his son, loved it. They thought Tristan was wrong but the other two were much closer to the real characters.

GCAcademic · 21/12/2020 20:36

Bumping this thread for the Christmas special tomorrow evening. Looking forward to an antidote to these shitty times.
