Ive just started to catch 30 Rock, i never saw it the first time. It does tickle me. I still think that Frasier was just perfect though. I wonder what they are doing now?

It's genius. Although the final season was a bit of a letdown. I never liked Charlotte. Don't think she was quite right for him.

Ginfordinner · 10/08/2020 06:02

I loved Cheers, Roseanne and The Golden Girls as well.

Oh my God it's like I found my peeps!! My fave one was where Niles thought he was getting high on marijuana (glad spell check got that for me;)) but Martin was actually high (can't even remember if that's how it went). Cant wait for the kids to be old enough to enjoy it, think they'd probably not like it yet. Fave character is Martin(and EddieGrin)

Other (as above) comedies I love are Modern Family, Friends, The Middle, It's always Sunny and I adore The US Office (UK one good but I properly laugh out loud with the US one)

Jemenfouscompletement · 10/08/2020 06:29

Yes - Frasier is The Best. At least up to the point Niles and Daphne got married.
Early seasons of Modern Family brilliant too.

tillythepony · 10/08/2020 06:37

Love love love frasier, I used to watch friends followed by frasier on a Friday night as a teenager.

MaggieTheFrog · 10/08/2020 06:43

Parks and recreation, every time Smile

Frasier is ok, but I find the plot lines always do the same annoying Shakesperian thing with mistaken identity / misunderstandings which I never find so funny. Martin makes it for me though.
But Seinfeld is surely the greatest sitcom ever, Friends ripped off many of their jokes. ‘No hugging, no learning’, and the best female character who was funny in her own right and didn’t depend on the male characters.

Community (at least the early seasons) is very funny if anyone is looking for other decent US sitcoms.

EachandEveryone · 10/08/2020 10:40

Im working my way through the top 30 episodes of 30Rock and Ive been crying with laughter. I hope Alec Baldwin isnt an arse in real life —like Kelsey Grammer—. Parks was brilliant too but the last couple of seasons not so.

I just watched the one where the radio station did a half hour fright night programme, 'nightmare inn'. Its an absolute riot, with Gill's 'romping with school chums in Surrey' speech. Just hilarious! I love modern family too. Never got on with the middle, found it a bit forced somehow, and while i liked Sienfield it doesn't compare to Frasier imo.

That’s my absolute favourite! Grin

Yes definitely. Frasier is top class minus any with Daphne's family in. How to ruin brilliance!
Also love P&R and Cheers. Numerous phrases from these shows are always popping up in our house.

butterpuffed · 10/08/2020 19:16

Absolutely love Frasier, best sitcom ever. Niles is brilliant and I adore Eddie the dog too !

Nordstrom · 10/08/2020 19:23

I adore Frasier! Am rewatching the box set whilst introducing DH to it properly.

I'm also a huge Brooklyn fan (though seasons 6 and 7 have been a bit of a let down)

Trailing1 · 10/08/2020 19:26

I agree with the poster that said Frasier minus Daphne's family!

Shallowsubmarine · 10/08/2020 19:30

Frasier makes me feel really depressed. They’re a really horrible representation of the kinds of people I do my best to avoid.

tillytoodles1 · 10/08/2020 19:31

My all time favourite was Cheers.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is really funny in Veep as well. Great comic actress.

annabel85 · 10/08/2020 20:08

I find it quite funny, but also quite repetative. Beautiful woman fancies Fraisier (why?), he fucks it up.

Throughout the show's entire run I don't think he was with the same woman for more than a couple of episodes. I struggled to buy the fact every woman in Seattle swooned over him. He's not exactly Sam Malone in Cheers but the writers seemed to give him the same sex appeal.

LaureBerthaud · 10/08/2020 20:11

@Disfordarkchocolate

Frasier, minus Daphne's family, sublime.
Yes! Daphne's mum and the brother with the pseudo English accent ruined it.

Sometimes it's good to quit whilst you're ahead.

Prettybluepigeons · 10/08/2020 21:31

Based on this thread, I've started watching 30rock.
Not a patch on frasier. I've smiled a little. Frasier is laugh out loud funny every episode

VodselForDinner · 10/08/2020 21:41

One thing that really bothered me was Frasier’s wealth. He wasn’t seeing patients so not earning from his practise, but he was seriously affluent.

I can’t see how a 2 hour a day radio programme that was barely syndicated (Seattle and Spokane!) could be so lucrative. Bulldog, Gill Chesterton, and Chopper Dave didn’t seem to be that well off from their shows.

(I know I’m over-invested Grin)

Mate those were the days... the nostalgia that just hit me

Great comedy writing a lot of the time but…

…the constant supply of women ‘up for it’? Really? Even the father gets through a lot.

Also a lot of ONSs.

A pretty weak portrayal of Seattle women? Maybe not.
