seriously. i'm watching it now for work and it is terribly upsetting. Claire Verity says 'i'm a bitch, i'm mean to them but it works', no touching, no eye contact, lots of talking about 'baby', presumably because she can't be arsed remembering the name... oh it's AWFUL.

Just a little aside that I mentioned previously on that "other" guru.

I worked as a nanny for several years.

Didn't prepare me in the slightest for my own. Not one bit, oh sure the practical stuff like changing nappies etc. but the emotional train that hits you full on when faced with your own - not one bit.

It is what these childless gurus don't know about. The whole emotional side of it.

I despair that here comes another one ready to crack the whip over parents heads. I feel sorry for anyone who is persuaded by her methods. Why is it they always act like babies are these manipulative, evil characters whose only purpose is to make the lives of the parents a misery?

Aitch · 16/09/2007 00:10

is that pig wearing heels?!!? you are indeed a hard taskmistress.

OP posts:
Aitch · 16/09/2007 00:11

twoif. she actually says that they are manipulative.

OP posts:
Peshatlast · 16/09/2007 00:15

From now on I promise to raise all my piglets by your methods. You may know nothing about raising piglets but you know something about something else totally unrelated which is Very Clever so therefore your piglet raising knowledge must also be Very Clever.

Thats how it works isn't it?

Aitch · 16/09/2007 00:17

nope. she sounds Very Confident but actually has a braind the size of a pea. that's how it works.

OP posts:
Peshatlast · 16/09/2007 00:19

Well babies are manipulative, everything about them is designed to manipulate their parents into doing what they want because what babies want also happens to be what they need to grow and survive.

nachomama · 16/09/2007 00:21

anyone up for a mark thomas style protest upon airing of the programme? we could send Mme Verity these as a gesture of our thanks for imparting her knowledge

hunkermunker · 16/09/2007 00:27

:-Þ

Aitch · 16/09/2007 00:29

seriously, is no one but me disturbed by the fact that george clooney's pig appears to be wearing stiletto heels? you are all ghouls.

"Exclusive breastfeeding until six months? For heaven's sake! What if you have a big, ten-pound baby?"

hahahahahahahahahahah
DS was 10lbs 5
he is exclusively breastfed
he is 6 months and a week and has to date eaten a mouthful of carrot

worra load of bollocks. this woman sounds deranged and actively dangerous.

Aitch · 16/09/2007 00:57

it's quite horrid, actually. i'm sure you'll get the programme in NZ soon enough.

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 16/09/2007 01:05

it sounds very upsetting
I've given up on TV actually as it's sooooooo shite
Ispend all the time on t'internet instead talking to my virtual friends...not sure if thats any better...

Aitch · 16/09/2007 01:10

well yes, i think it is upsetting actually. but what is interesting (hopefully)is that they are showing the parents getting bossed around and upset so we can but hope for a revolt. or at least that most normal humans will think, ho hum, i think i might try to do something not quite so cruel...

None of us need to be told by the telly how to rear children.

With the success of other child-rearing programs i guess they saw there was a gap in the market for ones aimed at babies.

To treat raising kids as a new way to get viewers is pretty outrageous.

I won't be tuning in to this just as i don't tune in to the other shit that is on.

Common sense is all you need.

kiskidee · 16/09/2007 01:31

Clare is doing a 20 minute presentation on her 'methods' at the Bambino Babyshow near Harrogate today. I wanted to go yesterday as there is an old thread about her methods on here where 2 hvs who have seen it got very upset at the content of what she said. Apparently any suggestion of bf is just dismissed.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/09/2007 19:11

Aitch, the piggy has her toenails painted is all

lulumama · 16/09/2007 19:13

i complained to channel 4 and got a bog standard response

am and her methods are awful IMO

Aitch · 16/09/2007 20:49

just wait til you see it, lulu. you'll be livid.
