seriously. i'm watching it now for work and it is terribly upsetting. Claire Verity says 'i'm a bitch, i'm mean to them but it works', no touching, no eye contact, lots of talking about 'baby', presumably because she can't be arsed remembering the name... oh it's AWFUL.

I remember seeing that on here before about no cuddling and comparing babies to dogs, which, even if you overlook the fact that babies and dogs are not really alike , doesnt make much sense to me as people do throw sticks for their dogs because the dogs like it and it makes them happy!

Because of my ds2's weight I have been doing abit of searching on Failure To Thrive babies and on every site one of the main causes mentioned after any physiological (?) causes is lack of contact and affection. AS far as I'm concerned what she's suggesting is dangerous, agree with Tamum it sounds like abuse.

clever pookammummy.

thank you, i was getting a definite loon vibe surrounding mizz verity et al. are they british (i'm not from round here), and aitch, is the dr s of whom you speak dr sears? also, i think that i am not alone at being intrigued by your work. are you someone who writes the blurbs that are read out before C4 airs a programme? I have always thought that would be a cool gig to get.

NoBiggy · 15/09/2007 23:24

Pooka, that's kind of my philosophy.

I get down with my mammal self

Aitch · 15/09/2007 23:24

she even says that you should (bottle) feed holding the baby away from the body because it'll get too cosy...
oh we are going to need suzywong here on the 23rd, you mark my words. emails to channel four at the ready.

words escape me................

NoBiggy · 15/09/2007 23:25

Bollocks.

Just plant them in the garden and water every evening.

Aitch · 15/09/2007 23:26

it's truby king (CV), dr spock (a friendly woman called deena) and continuum concept, (lentil-weaving with a lovely young woman).
that would be a good gig! i just write about telly and stuff and stuff.

This woman sounds like she's better off at Billy Smarts with a whip and an upturned stool

So she has no children, but what does she have in the way of qualifications, anyone know?

gibberish · 15/09/2007 23:28

Ah, so she doesn't have any children? Oookay then...

Agree littlelapin. It makes me so cross that first time mothers, who simply need to be given the confidence to trust their own instincts are instead, out of their desperation for some kind of sensible advice, fooled into believing that they have to do things 'by the book' (excuse the pun) because everything else is wrong. Dangerous.

hunkermunker · 15/09/2007 23:28

Oh, Aitch

Pooka, I think we should all do what Millie did, really - I saw you say it on another thread the other day and liked it a lot - sensible mother of yours!

Claire Verity - I'm glad the Baby Show took her off their stage and I'm proud I had a hand in that decision.

As for being the Cruella de Vil of childcare - Cruella de Vil made GLOVES out of puppies, ffs!

Actually I would love to see what she would do with her own baby. Cos I bet she couldn't do what she is instructing these parents to do. It is so different when you hear your OWN baby crying, and upset.

I also imagine it is nice to be given this "instruction booklet", don't we all wish they came with one, but these parents just don't realsie this is one they shouldn't listen to

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2007 23:31

Can social services not be alerted to her 'methods'? They are cruel.

IIRC - she hasnt got children, she learnt alot of her methods through growing up on a farm, apparently.

Aitch · 15/09/2007 23:33

i think that's the point, though, that these maternity nurses say they are clearer-headed on the subject because they don't love the child, iykwim? truly fucked-up thinking imo.

Aitch · 15/09/2007 23:36

lololol at the picture. she looks NOTHING like that. oh the airbrushing that's gone on there.

OP posts:
NoBiggy · 15/09/2007 23:36

Where did she come from? Why does she think how we raise our children in any of her damn business?

I couldn't possibly watch her programme, I'd EXPLODE!!!

Aitch · 15/09/2007 23:39

also, having read the piece she seems a bit bonkers but not the full-blown evil looper that you'll see on the telly. i'm quite looking forward to seeing what you all think, now. i may have nearly cried a little. and dh stormed off in digust after ranting a while about 'some silly bottle-blonde bitch off a farm telling people how to bring up their babies'.

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 15/09/2007 23:40

she is a shameless star fucker too
Mick Jagger blablabla, Prince Edward yaddayaddayadda

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2007 23:44

lol, she says in her interview "But some families will hand over their baby to just about anyone." oooh the irony

Amen to that, it seems they will even hand their baby to her!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/09/2007 23:44

Well, I happen to think emotions are a clever thing of nature.

I think they are designed to enable parents to make appropriate decisions and judgements.

Why would you want to look after your child if you had no emotions??? Am I making sense?
