Starts on monday, I don't want to say anything about Jacks personality and get the thread deleted but I'm going to be interested to see how it goes. Jamie's show has been great even now he's just filming on his phone and I've picked up lots of tips - like the roasting of veg then blending to make a pasta sauce. After all of Jacks deleted tweets she's set the bar very high for herself and I'm hoping she does smash it

I like Jack but she's not a TV presenter. She needs to stick to the writing and the blogging.

KaronAVyrus · 21/04/2020 10:12

Watching it now - she’s just not working for me.

She certainly wouldn’t be able to present this on her own.

WickedlyPetite · 21/04/2020 10:18

Ah Mary Berry - and relax! I'm going to make some of her scones this afternoon.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/04/2020 10:24

I too want safe hands. I want to know what is in season/on offer/impossible to find and alternatives for tricky bits.

I don’t feel this is working. I don’t need cctv (car crash not closed circuit) - I want to be comforted and inspired.

And I’m not because I can’t eat chickpeas or beans/lentils. I’d rather have Marjorie Dawes on offering us dust Sad

I hate to say it but it would be better from back in her kitchen - wonky sound and all. And pre-recorded too.

It isn’t going well. She may be grand on a one to one level but there doesn’t seem to be a rapport with anyone and it is all just a bit too much.

Snarky funnies only work well when you have a good connection (And it shows) and I’m feeling that social distancing is welcome in the studio.

And there is not much oozing coming from MT’s Tweeterings.

JM seems over familiar when you look at MT’s reactions. The chemistry is very much lacking.

Nadiya would have been so much better.

Jamie love, do you fancy coming to the beeb for a bit?

KaronAVyrus · 21/04/2020 10:26

I can’t take anymore of this. Just too painful. She’s crap.

GrimmsFairytales · 21/04/2020 10:36

I can’t take anymore of this. Just too painful. She’s crap.

I've had to turn it off. She's spoiled the show for me. I can't stand any more woe is me, and the gruesome food. I wish her well with the blogs, but whoever gave her a chance on TV is insane.

KaronAVyrus · 21/04/2020 10:39

Feel sorry for Matt. He’s having to carry the whole show.

WickedlyPetite · 21/04/2020 10:39

I went off to make some tea and toast during the awkward silences at the start of her cooking segment - and came back in to find her cutting up something that looks like I could pave my patio with it.

Bloomburger · 21/04/2020 10:46

Tinned carrots 🤮, I'm hoping not to have to resort to using tinned carrots ever!!

GrimmsFairytales · 21/04/2020 10:53

Tinned carrots 🤮

I have nothing against tinned carrots, but surely it's easier to find fresh carrots right now than tinned?

WickedlyPetite · 21/04/2020 10:59

Top tip from Jack... Tinned carrots are better than fresh - because the water they’re cooked in retains all the vitamins. And you can keep the water full of vitamins, and use it for something else...

You can’t do that with fresh carrots? Confused

FashionFoodLaughs · 21/04/2020 11:04

I really don’t understand all the Twitter love surrounding JM and this programme. She comes across as so awkward and I feel sorry for Matt. Plus she comes over as quite the viper on Twitter - threatening to get the CPS on to anyone who criticises her. It seems at odds with the somewhat vulnerable person she comes over as on DKL. I think her whole rationale is admirable and the food she creates isn’t particularly to my taste but the principles of using canned foods, not using fancy mixers/equipment is good I think?

KaronAVyrus · 21/04/2020 11:13

If Twitter truly represented the real world Bernie Saunders would be president by now.

Surely fresh carrots are cheaper than tinned carrots? I didn’t even know they were a thing.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/04/2020 11:18

Apparently it is ‘new and improved’

It is not.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/04/2020 11:22

One side for telly. One side for twotter.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 21/04/2020 11:23

Top tip from Jack... Tinned carrots are better than fresh - because the water they’re cooked in retains all the vitamins. And you can keep the water full of vitamins, and use it for something else What do I keep the water for? A breakfast drink, put it in my coffee? The texture of tinned carrots is weird too soft.

Ok so I watched one episode and that’s enough for me. Jack has the personality of a piece of wood, she doesn’t tell you about the recipe properly. That lasagna in the episode I watched looked gross, that white sauce was like nothing I’ve ever seen before and not in a good way.

So she spat her toys out of the Pram when channel 4 rightly went with Jamie and it turns out she has no tv appeal anyway. Channel 4 are bloody glad more than ever now they stick with Jamie.

Jamie’s cooking show on the other hand, at least he has a personality and I love his wife and dc are involved now filling it for him. His food is nice, he tells you about what to swap for if you don’t have something many people like me aren’t good at thinking of swaps so it’s nice he tells you, his recipes are clear. He also uses fresh food which I can get now but tinned/frozen stuff round here is like hens teeth.

WotnoPasta · 21/04/2020 11:35

I’ve been buying big bags of cheap carrots easily. Our tins aisles were totally decimated for weeks. Tinned carrots are foul anyway.

Why is she laughing ALL the time. Doesn’t she realise other presenters don’t do that.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/04/2020 11:36

I am normally hugely against zero hours contracts.

One can only hope that in these dark times that such a contract has been utilised in this instance.

JemimaTab · 21/04/2020 11:42

Jamie’s been doing this for 20 years, and the experience shows.

With JM, I can’t get over how revolting the food looks. And this is a food show, so you want stuff to look appetising, surely! It’s all a bit hair-shirt.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/04/2020 11:54

We have been living ‘fresh’ because you can’t get tins.

I don’t think the dog I care for would care for a tinned carrot.

I think they would be great if you’d nothing else but there is plenty of fresh fruit and veg round here.

‘Sake beeb. We need cheering up and to feel enthusiastic. Not wondering if our teeth will hold up.

Or if the tinned carrots are to prepare us for having no teeth.

One swallow doesn’t make a summer. And one week does not make you a tv presenter. Sorry.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/04/2020 11:56

Matt - crack open the good stuff, fling some tasty treats our way please. With real lemons and shit.

WotnoPasta · 21/04/2020 12:06

Tinned mango? I’d have to drive to a large supermarket to source that. How is that stuff you would have in?

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 21/04/2020 12:08

Have no fear.

You can probably substitute chickpeas for mango @WotnoPasta

they are fuckin in everything else

WotnoPasta · 21/04/2020 12:12

I do have chickpeas! Inspired! (Actually I might make hummus to eat with my fresh carrots..)

Lllot5 · 21/04/2020 12:20

I’ve just watched this with one eye. (I was doing something else I haven’t got one eye )
I didn’t realise who that was I just thought she was shit.
That mango cake was awful. The other chef suggested drizzling something over it or reducing the juice down. I’ve never seen a tin of mangoes.
