Starts on monday, I don't want to say anything about Jacks personality and get the thread deleted but I'm going to be interested to see how it goes. Jamie's show has been great even now he's just filming on his phone and I've picked up lots of tips - like the roasting of veg then blending to make a pasta sauce. After all of Jacks deleted tweets she's set the bar very high for herself and I'm hoping she does smash it

OP posts:

Oh, I just red some of the tweets linked, they are shocking.

Why was given this job?

JO is not opening cans, he's showing us delicious, simple, fresh as possible meals. Suggesting all sorts of alternative ingredients if some aren't available.

The beautiful lady with a new baby and the curry base recipe and the fairly small freezer was so professional and had great tips and was a joy to watch. It is true baking could be involved in home schooling Smile loved that.

Well. All I can say after watching that is I hope Matt is getting paid A LOT of money. Grin

WickedlyPetite · 20/04/2020 11:03

Thought I'd give this show one more chance given that Jack Monroe was going to be live in the studio today.

I can't believe license payers money is being used to churn out this shite.

I haven't a clue what either of them cooked there. The best bit was Nadia. She'd have been a much better choice to join Matt.

Jack was stilted and awkward and is absolutely not a TV personality, or indeed a chef. I'd almost have felt sorry for her today if she hadn't been so vicious towards Jamie Oliver. She's so far out of her depth, she knows it and it makes for incredibly uncomfortable viewing.

I love my cooking shows, I find them really relaxing and soothing to watch. Not this one. I feel like I need a stiff drink. And probably so does Matt Grin.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 20/04/2020 12:37

Just the one stiff drink? Sure? Grin

Saladaysior · 20/04/2020 13:25

“Jack .... is absolutely not a TV personality, or indeed a chef.”

And that’s the crux of it. Whatever you think about Jamie Oliver et al, they are professionals who’ve proved their talent and are genuinely skilled at designing and cooking meals. JM simply isnt. She takes other people’s ideas, opens a few tins to mix them up a bit, and basically got lucky by capturing a particular market at a particular time and monetising it. She’s now being shown for what she really is.

And of course she’s made things so much harder for herself by having unattractive traits, sniping at other people, aggressively jumping on every band wagon and even pleading poverty.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 20/04/2020 14:20

I want to be al important when I’m on tv, working long days.

Till then I will just have to slum it working/travelling from 0500-2000 and then looking after the paperwork/house/parents/everything else till 0100 when I can try to get to bed before I start all over again.

Who would wish to be on the tv when you can do all that? Confused. I must need my tins of chickpeas feeling. Sad

Does anyone want to let me know how I’m doing? Hmm

WotnoPasta · 20/04/2020 15:15

Ironically showing clip of Nigel who is THE most relaxed person cooking. I don’t care what he cooks, he just has such a nice way about him.

JemimaTab · 20/04/2020 17:48

They really should have given her a bit more training before letting her in the studio. At the very least.

BillieEilish · 20/04/2020 18:57

I wish she'd stop saying she's nervous. It makes me even more nervous.

They both cooked the same thing! Fritters. Just slightly different.

Wasn't convinced with the bechamel, I wonder if it works? Filling looked nice though.

Love Nigel! He once made a giant scone made up of left over cheese bits and parmesan rinds. It looked delicious. To have with soup etc. For four people.

Scruffyoak · 20/04/2020 19:00

I'm so confused. Last I heard she wanted to be 'them'

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 20/04/2020 19:02

I tire of folk blaming a wink performance on nerves a la X factor etc.

Next we’ll get ‘I’ll give it my all’ and I’ve so much more to give’

Stop it.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 20/04/2020 19:05

Wink?

Wonky!

WickedlyPetite · 20/04/2020 19:18

Wasn't convinced with the bechamel

Was that what it was supposed to be?

I got distracted and missed how she 'made' that, it looked like she just poured a bowlful of milk over the food Confused

WotnoPasta · 20/04/2020 19:22

Was that bechamel? It did look like milk, I don’t believe that would thicken with cooking. It would just soak in surely?
I have no idea what else they were making apart from the lasagne. I’ve never seen a tv cook rush as much as Jack to put that lasagne together.

CodenameVillanelle · 20/04/2020 19:26

I'm so confused. Last I heard she wanted to be 'them'

Not any more

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 20/04/2020 19:45

I’d rather have nigel’s giant scone all to myself than I would some abomination made with spaghetti ‘oops, dust and a soupçon of self absorption.

It sounds proper lush Smile

sequinednostrils · 20/04/2020 19:47

I know she's autistic and I'm really rooting for her. But that's because my dd8 is and things are really tough atm and I worry when she's an adult how she'll cope. So to me personally, and maybe a lot of others, representation is really important.

Quartz2208 · 20/04/2020 20:08

just watched it she whizzed up cold milk oil and flour in a blender

I am not convinced by it. Cheese sauce for me makes lasagna

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 20/04/2020 20:15

I must stop reading that tweety name as BS cock.

It’s like cook pass babtridge for me.

Once seen, can’t be unseen for me 😬

GinghamStyle · 20/04/2020 20:34

A white sauce made with and oil and flour base would work fine. I make mine with butter, flour and gradually add the milk. My worry adding it all at once in a blender is that it’d be lumpy and wouldn’t thicken properly.

JemimaTab · 21/04/2020 01:50

Her recipes on this show look pretty unappealing. That lasagne thing looked as hard as a board. Plus I think we’ve had quite enough spinach + chickpeas/lentils combinations. Especially chickpeas.

GrimmsFairytales · 21/04/2020 08:22

I wish she'd stop saying she's nervous. It makes me even more nervous.

100% in agreement with you here. The constant mentions of nerves, the rushed cooking and the agitated bouncing are spoiling the show.

I'm not a great cook, far from it, but shows like this are supposed to be calming and give you ideas, her segments are neither. This is supposed to be her thing, she's had 8 years of being in the limelight as a budget cook, and yet can't provide alternatives, or contribute to the discussion.

I would understand if she'd suddenly been thrust in front of a camera, but she's wanted to be on TV and have her own show for years. Confused

WotnoPasta · 21/04/2020 09:42

I watched a live webcast she did last night. She was sat down, the camera was close to her face. She talked to much but it was much easier to watch. She didn’t laugh incessantly.
She certainly wasn’t a presenter, but the at home parts would have been easier to watch if they had been like that.
I’m still slightly disturbed by corned beef bolognese...

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 21/04/2020 09:46

What I want from live food TV in these difficult times is a safe pair of hands. I want calm and confidence and recipes that are inventive but appealing. I don't want to feel like we're on the verge of foraging and living off vegetable peelings, even if we're having to be careful with both money and supplies.

I watched the show as I like Matt and as it's been put together so quickly I am perfectly prepared to cut them some slack, but it really didn't work for me. The pro chef interactions are ok but the wacky ideas and unprofessionalism weren't a good watch and it set me on edge.
