Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

We also said it looks like a bird hide!

BinkySodPlop · 21/04/2020 20:34

Looks like a large shed. With bench seats.

BruceAndNosh · 21/04/2020 20:34

30 minutes late with the bench seats

BasinHaircut · 21/04/2020 20:34

Will make the house rather cold if you take the wall out won’t it?

BruceAndNosh · 21/04/2020 20:36

I actually think Robert's is the way to go.
But without the dentists waiting room seating
And a bit more paint

Brillig · 21/04/2020 20:37

We just said that, Basin

He's taken absolutely no notice of the budget. There's no way the removal of an external wall, upgraded kitchen, conservatory, underfloor heating pipes and the additional access (because he's moved the door) is coming in at £15000.

BinkySodPlop · 21/04/2020 20:41

Surely having a wood burner and under seat heating would kill off all those ferns, which like dark, damp, cool places? Nope. Not for me

Brillig · 21/04/2020 20:43

A big fat no for the potting shed with the concrete bench seating.

I really like what they’ve done.

SimonJT · 21/04/2020 20:50

One of the walls in my bedroom is polished scaffold boards as well, can pretend I’m stylish now.

jay55 · 21/04/2020 21:02

Robert would be brilliant at designing scout huts and youth hostels.

stormsurfer · 21/04/2020 21:20

Love it! Just don't understand why there is no ramp to get the wheelchair to the garden.

CoolShoeshine · 21/04/2020 21:37

Roberts was like the bird house at the zoo! Why would anyone in their right mind choose that design and waste £15k on a structure made from old wood. Most of his budget was probably for the hundreds of plants in there to make it look more attractive.
Laura’s design was another triumph, the finished product looked better because the window panels hadn’t been reused. It looked expensive too which was fitting for such a nice house. Did they say what the final spend was?
Law of averages says it will be Roberts design next week 🙈

Malotkins · 21/04/2020 21:48

It was £26k rather than the original £15K. It was lovely and they were a lovely couple.

BekindStayhome · 21/04/2020 22:02

I'd have liked to see them use the VR show how getting rid of the conservatory would make the rooms behind so much better. For two people it's not like they needed the space and once you put a solid roof on you use the light that makes it a real garden room.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 21/04/2020 22:08

Bench seating? Bench seating? Again? Is there anything he designs that doesn’t have bench seating. And do any of them pay attention to the budget? Having said that I liked the final design BUT why on earth did they not have a proper ramp for her to access!! I’m limited mobility & actually felt her pain in not being able to use the whole house.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 21/04/2020 22:08

Access the garden ffs

babyinthacorner · 21/04/2020 22:29

We’ve just discovered this programme and DH and I were saying EXACTLY the same things, this thread is cracking me up!

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/04/2020 22:38

BUT why on earth did they not have a proper ramp for her to access!!

I couldn't understand this either?! Why would you choose to have a portable ramp instead of a permanent ramp?

Does anyone know why they might have done this? Surely ramping though small stairs wouldn't have cost a lot?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/04/2020 22:44

I started a thread on this when the first episode aired - I had forgotten how obsessed Robert is with bench seating! I don’t understand how he can propose it as the only seating in a lounge area - you couldn’t sit on his seats for very long without getting a numb bum. I do think he upped the ante this week with the huge orange plywood construction and bench seating.

Usually Laura’s designs are more sensible - more home-like than edgy, urban restaurant, which seems to be Robert’s vibe.

And don’t get me started with the bath in the front room - is he on glue?

CoolCarrie · 21/04/2020 23:23

I loved Laura’s dress as well as her design this week again. ( anyone have an idea where it was from? ) Her design, as always, looked lovely, cosy and fitted well with the rest of the house, Robert’s looked like a child’s den, built by children.

RandomMess · 21/04/2020 23:32

The owners didn't want a ramp, perhaps they are thinking resale value?? Perhaps they don't want it "looking like" a house for a disabled person/wheelchair user?

LadyEloise · 22/04/2020 00:32

Laura's design was so much nicer. I hated Robert's design- all that ghastly brown wood with awful, uncomfortable bench seating. I felt the room was depressing.

It was a pity they didn't extend the roof lights as Laura had originally planned. It would have been even better.

That was some achievement on £26,000.

I wondered about the two steps to the garden too. A ramp would have been more practical.

BasinHaircut · 22/04/2020 07:41

I thought probably re-sale when they didn’t do a ramp, but I’m sure there are clever and stylish ways to make the access to the garden wheelchair friendly without making the place look like an adapted house?
