Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

I am also very disappointed we did not see how the design actually worked, where were the stairs?, how did it affect upstairs?, how did the utility turn out? I also noticed how Robert did not say anything positive he was practically mute! I think the owner had a bit of a man crush on Robert as by the end of the build he had sort of morphed into him.

lynsey91 · 11/04/2020 11:49

I liked the kitchen. We are thinking of having a black kitchen. We like the Ikea one and with all drawers rather than cupboards.

The bedroom with just a curtain was awful and ridiculous and as for the bath in the kitchen!

Personally I think baths are a waste of time and space in any room but if I were going to have one it certainly would not be in the kitchen

LadyEloise · 11/04/2020 15:42

As far as I could ascertain that "bedroom" was at the front of the house, it looked like they had to keep curtains or blinds there shut all day.
But they liked it so thats all that matters.

Crickets · 11/04/2020 15:45

I didn't like the decor but it suited them. The curtained bedroom was odd. I would have had a dual purpose sitting and sleeping with a TV and a better partition maybe?

I always want aspects of both.

Sittinonthefloor · 11/04/2020 20:44

I missed the beginning but I thought the end result looked like a rather drab bedsit. Very claustrophobic.

longtompot · 12/04/2020 22:09

I do like this programme but I have to say I do fast forward the first15 or so mins until they start to reveal their designs. I can't bear the faux fawning of the designs and pretending to see them in front of them when they don't have the car goggles on.
I am normally team Laura, but I think this couple were more a Robert client. I did love their colour scheme at the end, and the bath did look quite nice, though not something I'd ever use.
I do think they should have used a more solid wall with the downstairs bedroom, even a sliding wall would have been better than a curtain. It looks odd with the curtain and being able to see the bed. It makes it feel like a bedsit or studio flat.
Looking forward to next weeks.

I caught up on this last night. I preferred Robert's too but mostly because Laura's took too much garden space away.

Agree re man crush, in fact I thought the gentleman was (closet) gay; poor 20 year old son. He must feel uncomfortable in his own home. Perhaps he'll bugger off to live in the nice looking garden room.

The garden was gorgeous.

Didn't like the island, thought it had wheels at first which would have been practical.

Is there another one tonight?

But yes, agree it's annoying when they don't show the impact the layout has on the upstairs. Said that about the last series too. Usually only Robert's designs that is.

Here we go again, folks Grin

I like this pair!

BananaPlant · 14/04/2020 20:16

Why sooo many seats?

It looks like a pub.

Brillig · 14/04/2020 20:17

I'm not sure they're ready for upside-down living....

AnotherEmma · 14/04/2020 20:18

They're too conventional, they won't do it.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 14/04/2020 20:18

Looks like a downmarket working men's club. And bench seating again.

BananaPlant · 14/04/2020 20:18

It just looks like they’re standing behind a bar.

scaryreading · 14/04/2020 20:19

3 staircases?

AuntieDolly · 14/04/2020 20:23

I think Robert might have gone a bit too far this time :)

wehaveafloater · 14/04/2020 20:25

I haven't seen this yet, but I will catch up. I did find the last series a bit far fetched, from the bath in kitchen comments it sounds just as weird this time around!

Brillig · 14/04/2020 20:25

How much was their budget? Not enough for all this tomfoolery, I'm thinking.

AnotherEmma · 14/04/2020 20:26

£120k

BinkySodPlop · 14/04/2020 20:28

Why so many bench seats?? How many guests are they going to have round?? Let the poor buggers have a sofa!

Tablefor4 · 14/04/2020 20:32

hmmm.... The open bit downstairs would need to be ready to be converted. You wouldn't want to be pregnant and also having to adapt the rooms.

Also - fully open plan can feel really limiting. You cook, eat, TV etc all in 1 place.

BananaPlant · 14/04/2020 20:34

The second one is better. Because it’s still a normal house rather than a social club for 20 people that don’t live there.

Robert thinks it's okay to have more staircases than people. But doesn't want them to have enough bedrooms for babies that come along and family that visit.
