The new series starts tonight and Jim has got a new dog! I can't wait Grin

Dd is adamant it was brilliant @Poppyholland and thought jibby was hilarious..It just seemed a bit far fetched to me and Jim seems to have gone from a bit kooky to just really really odd.

Poppyholland · 18/04/2020 21:25

@Chinks123 never thought I'd say that I didn't like an episode 😂😂 but yeah I agree Very far fetched

midsomermurderess · 18/04/2020 22:31

I felt that Jibby was pretty much a re-run of the Finnish PM from Veep. Albeit battier.

fourpeasinapod · 18/04/2020 23:01

Gippy was definitely weird - that episode was completely bonkers but I found it funny anyway

Ginfordinner · 19/04/2020 00:02

I didn't find last night's episode very funny.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/04/2020 00:05

I felt that Jibby was pretty much a re-run of the Finnish PM from Veep. Albeit battier.

So very much this.

Really liked yesterday’s one. Wasn’t keen on the Jibby one.

The actress playing nice grandma died a few months ago, I was hoping she’d be back.

Ginseng1 · 19/04/2020 00:25

Not getting into this series & we loved the other ones & could not wait for latest. Way too much of Jim this series (can't stand that character) & the Jim n jibby episode was the most painful. Am almost giving up on it.

CoolShoeshine · 19/04/2020 03:51

I haven’t really enjoyed the last couple of weeks’ episodes, they’ve been too weird and ott. Plus as others have said they are all too mean to each other, especially the boys. And why would the family allow a local oddball to come round their house so much? I’d probably just not answer the door!
I did like the Jibby character though, that episode could have been so much better.

DameXanaduBramble · 19/04/2020 04:14

This series def not as good.

JustDanceAddict · 19/04/2020 08:32

I’d like to see the girlfriends, maybe that’ll be the last one in the series?
First couple were great w the caravan and bag in tree, but last two not as good imho. My teens love it and it’s the only programme we all watch together every week.
No-ones said ‘lovely bit of squirrel’ or shalom jackie... yet

Extracurricularfatigue · 19/04/2020 20:44

We hated the last one. It was totally over the top. Horrible Grandma wasn’t meant to be openly vile like that - that was just a grotesque version of her. And I agree that Jim is just much now. Too much violence too - they are seriously overplaying it.

2Rebecca · 19/04/2020 22:43

Just seen the first 2 which are great. Agree they heave ruined Jim by making him too silly. Mark Heap is brilliant when playing eccentric but not unbelievable

spiderlight · 20/04/2020 13:06

Jim is definitely funnier when he's a bit more subtle.

RaraRachael · 20/04/2020 14:29

I think all the characters are turning into parodies of themselves. I usually find this happens when a show has run out of steam and needs to finish. I was surprised when there was a series 5, let alone 6. The first four series were great, bar a couple of duff episodes, but I think sadly it's past its sell by date now.

LHMBF · 20/04/2020 15:45

I think this is going to be the last series

SeaOtterFluff · 20/04/2020 15:53

It's just not working for me in this series. As said upthread, they are overly exaggerated characters now and have become cruel and unpleasant. There's no depth. The humour has become crude and it's lost most of its original appeal.

Sojo88 · 20/04/2020 15:58

Horrible Grandma did seem unusually cruel and harsh to the point where it actually seemed quite sad - especially on her son's birthday!

Plus why does Jackie have such trouble getting rid of unwanted guests in her house?! Every time someone won't leave she decides to leave her own home - isn't she bothered about what damage she might come back to? It's her own house - get rid of people you don't want!

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/04/2020 17:51

@Sojo88 that's what I thought. Presumably she's been married for over 20 years, plenty of time to have told Horrible Grandma to get lost. I wouldn't let her in the house. She could be much more assertive with Jim too.

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/04/2020 17:53

And I would have expected Gibby to finish the Friday night dinner and made a cream tea the next day. It annoys me that they never get to eat the dinner.

Sojo88 · 20/04/2020 20:00

It annoys me that they never get to eat the dinner.

I know! The amount of times they get interrupted during dinner and end up going out or not finishing it - such a waste!

cushioncovers · 20/04/2020 21:16

Really disappointed in the last episode, just not funny. Not even Jim

fourpeasinapod · 21/04/2020 09:22

It’s not meant to be taken seriously, it’s a comedy. I think it makes it more humorous

Extracurricularfatigue · 21/04/2020 09:24

I don’t think anyone’s taking it seriously? But as the comedy it is, it’s not actually funny when it starts turning into Bottom.

fourpeasinapod · 21/04/2020 10:08

@Extracurricularfatigue PP’s have said how horrible grandma was nasty and that it was sad and about Jackie struggling to get rid of people from the house etc etc.

Like I said, all these things make it funny. If they were nice to each other all the time and everything was rosy in the garden, what would be the point of the show? It wouldn’t be anywhere near half as funny if that was the case

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 21/04/2020 10:33

I'm so disappointed in this series

No shaloms. No lovely pieces of squirrel. No bambinos Sad

It's the same writer so I wonder if he's just run out of steam

The Gibby episode was dire. Not funny in the least.
