The new series starts tonight and Jim has got a new dog! I can't wait Grin

That was a fitting finale

It was funny again.

Loved Martin.

ssd · 02/05/2020 15:22

I didn't realise that was the last episode Sad

CoolShoeshine · 02/05/2020 16:00

I’m pretty sure it was the last episode, it felt like they were wrapping it up - lads both having girlfriends and babies, Jim’s dog having babies - a happy ending for all the characters. The dynamic won’t be the same if they bring it back - would men with their own families go for Friday night dinner each week with their parents? Plus the fact that Martin said “shit on it” at the end - completely fitting as last words!
Despite all that I am secretly hoping for a one off special though Grin

bobstersmum · 02/05/2020 16:14

FND is my guilty pleasure, I absolutely love the total silliness of it, every second is just lighthearted and hilarious, if that was the last one then I will miss it!

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 02/05/2020 17:43

Martin with an M, not an F. Because that would be Fartin...

Last night's episode had my crying. I loved the fact it was a happy ending and there were even puppies!

GinnyStrupac · 02/05/2020 18:11

We didn't watch the last episode because we've been disappointed with this series, but it sounds like we need to from pps! We watched The Mercedes and Tanya Green episodes repeated later instead.

fourpeasinapod · 02/05/2020 18:56

@GinnyStrupac ah yeah you definitely do need to watch the last episode!

It was the best out of them all imo!

Be prepared to get emotional towards the end of the episode though, if you’re the kind of person that gets emotional at TV shows! Lol

All in all, it really was a lovely episode tinged with both humour and a bit of sadness. It was kind of obvious it was the final episode of the last ever series - you’ll know what I mean when you watch it, the storyline and atmosphere just had sense of finality.

I’ll not spoil it for you though!

fourpeasinapod · 02/05/2020 19:00

@GinnyStrupac forgot to add to my last post - I can’t say for sure that last nights episode was the last ever episode as it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

But I’d be surprised if they made anymore episodes after this because as a PP said, the dynamic has changed. You’ll see what I mean when you watch

Chinks123 · 02/05/2020 22:07

It felt final didn’t it, with the slow mo dancing and then the boys standing outside saying they had to grow up now. It did make me a bit emotional to think they probably won’t go round every Friday night now because they’ll be busy with their girlfriends and babies.. sad I know but I was thinking of my own ds.

Overall I thought the series wasn’t great, but every other has been brilliant and me and dd will carry on re watching them for a very long time. Last nights was definitely the best of the series and dd laughed head off at Jim’s dancing.

MozzchopsThirty · 02/05/2020 23:37

I thought this last episode was very poor
It was ridiculous in parts
So disappointed

fourpeasinapod · 03/05/2020 11:54

It’s weird because up until about 2 months ago, I never knew Friday Night Dinner even existed and it’s been around for about 9 years now!

I’ve watched every series on catchup and I just feel so connected to it because they are a family so it makes me feel sad that it could be coming to an end!

unique1986 · 03/05/2020 12:37

Ever since I first saw Paul Ritter on TV around 2012 and then various other programs, I've found him strangely attractive?
Twenty years older me but there's something handsome him?

unique1986 · 03/05/2020 12:38

^about

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 03/05/2020 12:59

Unique. Me too

I have mentioned him occasionally on the "weird crush" threads.

He's probably near my age. I would in a heartbeat Grin

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/05/2020 13:20

Watched the episode last night, agree it definitely felt like a final. If it is, I felt like it rounded it up nicely. Have to admit it also made me well up a bit at the end, when the mum looked so happy for her boys.

Hopeful of a Christmas special in the future though.

midsomermurderess · 03/05/2020 13:56

The last episode was, I think, the strongest of the series. And clearly the last. Theboys themselves acknowledged that finally, they have to grow up.

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/05/2020 14:45

www.radiotimes.com/news/2020-05-01/friday-night-dinner-season-7-release-date/

Did anyone read this? Sounds like there's a bit of a miscommunication happening! Bit awkward..

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 03/05/2020 14:54

I've not read the Radio Times for years but it appears to have morphed into the Sun Shock

augustusglupe · 03/05/2020 20:01

We watched Series 1, shown back to back after the final episode on Friday.
Episode 3 with nice Grandma and the Beef Stew had me and DH laughing so hard we were crying. It made me realise how funny they were in the beginning and Jim spoke fairly normally. He was still the odd neighbour but not totally crazy like he is now.
I hope it at least comes back for a Christmas special.

Offred2 · 04/05/2020 11:11

Hmm, the final episode was quite sweet, but something felt a bit off to me, and it wasn’t ‘Jewish’ at all!

As someone already said there were no ‘mazeltovs’, plus a North London Jewish mum being entirely unconcerned whether her children’s partners are Jewish or the fact they’re having babies before they’re married doesn’t ring entirely true to me!

fourpeasinapod · 04/05/2020 11:54

How far In advance is FND filmed?

midsomermurderess · 04/05/2020 16:03

It's not filmed that far in advance. I saw some photos from the set on Robert Popper's Twitter just a few months ago.

fourpeasinapod · 04/05/2020 16:05

@midsomermurderess I’ll have to take a look. I thought it would have been filmed last summer or something

2Rebecca · 04/05/2020 21:48

Agree. It seemed like someone made the family Jewish to tick a diversity box without wanting to tackle the religious aspects of Judaism. An atheist Guardian reader's view of being Jewish

Haggisfish · 04/05/2020 22:50

Wasn’t it more because Jewish families have a traditional Friday night dinner, and nothing to do with diversity? Confused
