The new series starts tonight and Jim has got a new dog! I can't wait Grin

Last night was better bar the rice pudding stuff which was hideous.

Chinks123 · 25/04/2020 11:35

I was a lot more impressed with last nights episode, main family wise- I thought they all interacted like they did in previous episodes and weren’t as cruel and over the top. Auntie Val though was so annoying, and I’m still not feeling Jim as much as previous series, but on the whole much better.

It pains me to say they should have stopped at the death of Wilson. I enjoyed every single episode up until then and laugh at every single one. It’s sad when shows end but it’s best to leave it on a high rather than ruin it. I.e. Inbetweeners. Brilliant and not enough episodes but at least they were all good. I thought they ruined it with the second film.

I liked last night's - much better than the previous two weeks. The Jewish rice pudding felt like a return to the good old days. Is next week the last one?

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/04/2020 13:43

Would a Jewish family actually have rice pudding after roast beef? I thought they didn't mix meat and dairy, I may be wrong and I'm sure the writers know more about that than me.

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/04/2020 14:33

Didn’t they have lamb?

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 25/04/2020 14:49

Last nights episode was much better and almost like old

I enjoyed Martin getting his top off. Still no bambinos though

cushioncovers · 25/04/2020 15:32

Actually had a shalom from him last night. Rice pudding scene was funny. Juvenile Smile

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/04/2020 15:45

Didn’t they have lamb?OK it was beef last week but the same applies unless I'm way off the mark.

Extracurricularfatigue · 25/04/2020 16:10

That’s a kosher food rule but I don’t get the sense the family is enormously observant in general.

Hopefulmidwife · 25/04/2020 18:34

I haven't enjoyed the new series. Last night was better than the others but I agree, they should have stopped with wilsons death. Also, the rice pudding scene I felt was amusing at first and then it felt a bit uncomfortable, like I was watching someone being bullied 🤔

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/04/2020 19:59

They're not very strict but they always have the chollah (?) bread in a prominent position.

PinkDaydreams · 25/04/2020 20:11

I have to agree, last nights was the best so far. I’ve been really disappointed with this series but I laughed at “fuckbot 1000” last night.

StarsAndSnow · 26/04/2020 08:38

Agree. Although I didn't actually laugh much at latest episode until closer to the end.

I actually enjoyed the bag stuck in the tree episode though.

Before this season I properly was laughing my way through each episode but this season its just been a couple of chuckles here and there.

Bit ott with the characters, I don't think auntie val would have rated Jackie like that (I know, it's a comedy but still) in the same way horrible grandma went ott.

Jim is better in small doses, makes it hilarious rather than tedious.

PinkDaydreams · 26/04/2020 10:54

I think Jim is in it far too much now

SouthWestmom · 26/04/2020 11:02

I find Jim problematic. In short doses he was just the odd neighbour.
As a main character I feel uncomfortable about what they are trying to show - is he someone with additional needs, is he just self absorbed? I just don't get it.

fourpeasinapod · 26/04/2020 12:30

Sadly I do think it’s time for the producers to call it a day with FND.

It’s sad because its such a brilliant show and the actors are very talented at what they do but I suppose as a PP said, it’s best to end on a high.

If it was possible for it to go on and still be good I’d be happy for it to go on for a long long time

KurriKawari · 26/04/2020 18:34

Always knew too much Jim would kill the show.

CherryValanc · 26/04/2020 19:18

I enjoyed the latest episode. Though they aren't are funny as the first series no doubt. I'm still unapologetically enjoying it!!

On the rice pudding after lamb side of things, I think they'd be okay with it (weren't eating them together). Goodmans are definitely non-Orthodox- only seem to do Friday night dinner (as far as we know).

StillWeRise · 26/04/2020 19:22

it just doesn't seem as funny this series
I'm finding the boys more and more irritating- their behaviour is so childish, and I know that's kind of the point, that they revert to their childhood selves in the family home, but without us seeing some kind of self awareness and reflection it doesn't seem quite believable.

Timefor45 · 26/04/2020 19:29

I would have loved Jim to get a tiny dog, in contrast to Wilson. It’s just the same gag now. I liked the jacket/bag in tree episode the best- felt like it had the strength of the first series.

Extracurricularfatigue · 27/04/2020 08:21

Challah bread is yummy though! Everyone should eat it.

The Goldman’s celebrate Christmas so I think we can take them as relaxed Jews. They don’t say the Shabbat blessing before eating and I’ve never noticed candles lit. The ‘prayer cap’ Jim was given in this episode looked like a bowl to me.

Milk with or after meat is forbidden by dietary laws, but the alternative pudding they all wanted was ice cream so clearly no problem at all for them.

LHMBF · 27/04/2020 13:06

Agree with StillWeRise

MaddieElla · 27/04/2020 13:42

Someone asked about the house, yes they do film inside it. I read an article that said the owner had redecorated because they weren't going to do another series, but then they decided they would so the house had to be put back to how it was.

I wonder how much they got paid. Grin

MaddieElla · 27/04/2020 13:43

Oh and I binge watched all of the seasons in a week and horrible grandma's accent definitely changed!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 27/04/2020 13:54

I hope the owner got paid squillions, MaddieElla!

Can you just imagine all that awful upheaval? Shock
