Okay, I wouldn't normally start an SCD thread this early but Kevin's left and it has just been announced that AJ will leave. This after the BBC announced the returning pros for next season.

That means if Graziano and Gorka have a partner this year, then there will be no male back up pros. I still think Michael from TGD might get asked to join.

What do fellow SCD fans think?

DH and I saw Brendan's show at the theatre Royal in Newcastle a few weeks ago.

It was absolute shite! Fifty quid down the drain.

ChoccyJules · 01/04/2020 22:52

I‘ve got tickets to see Giovanni‘s show in June. Expecting a refund...Sad

This is a bit random, but I was surprised to learn yesterday that Will Baylett from
last year had a daughter.

He said he'd love to give it another go. I wonder whether they'd consider giving him & Jamie Laing second chances? Glitterball

ChicCroissant · 05/04/2020 14:57

Kelly Brook also left the show early after her bereavement - who else may have done half a series and might be able to come back? I'd love to see Will and Jeanette have another go.

Thinking about it, John Seargent also left early. Jimmy Tarbuck left on medical advice. Did Natalie Gumede leave early as well, I remember her missing one week due to illness? Any other names people can remember?

ChicCroissant · 05/04/2020 14:58

Will Young left early as well.

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 05/04/2020 16:22

Natalie only had one week ill - the jive - which iirc she then did on tour instead. She made the final and wuz robbed

I think Jamie Laing might get a second chance as he hadn't really performed yet, doubt Will B would.
Still gutted Will Young left - he had mental health issues at the time but I still think Len was a complete and utter arse to him. I loved his bollywood salsa - which incidentally would have been choreoed by an outside choreographer - but it has not been available online for years.
Kelly came back for a Xmas special. Len was an arse then as well on the main show - Brendan stuck up for her as he knew why her rehearsal time had been short.

Redcrayons · 05/04/2020 16:25

Natalie Gumede finished the series, she was in the final. She only had one week off when she, I think, fainted in rehearsal.

Will Young was a shame, he was definitely a finalist in the making.

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 05/04/2020 16:30

Here is Will dancing on a pier last year in big trousers

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 05/04/2020 16:32

Here is the Will Young video I adore and keep posting on Mumsnet given any flimsy reason. He got his mojo back bless his cotton socks.

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 05/04/2020 16:39

Also did not know Will had a kid - because usually they do BabyWarz - assume he was protecting privacy as tabloids had already talked about the mum's career in disparaging terms.
Actually I had thought he was gay so my gaydar is broken. I think Will B had enough public support he might have made at least the semis and knocked out Emma or Chris earlier.

ChicCroissant · 05/04/2020 17:26

Apologies to Natalie in that case for writing her off early Blush, she was really good and I was sorry to miss her jive as I expected it to be brilliant. Was she with Artem?

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 05/04/2020 18:06

Grainy but gives you an idea - think Alexandra and Gorks but with added Tina Turner iconic moves and bigger hair Grin

Hippofrog · 05/04/2020 19:29

I would love to see Justin Fletcher ! He’s got some moves and he would be amazing

munchbunch12 · 05/04/2020 20:09

I'd like to see Jason Manford or Russell Howard, I think they'd be good.

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 05/04/2020 21:46

Russell Howard - love him.

covetingthepreciousthings · 05/04/2020 21:46

Me too!

Borninthe80sx · 05/04/2020 23:09

It would improve my year sooooo much if they would put the old series on iplayer. I love strictly so much!

MrsJamin · 06/04/2020 07:48

Not Justin Fletcher! I've seen him in panto and that's enough. I think he's actually quite a private person and wouldn't like the 24/7 nature of strictly.

Has anyone else read this story this morning?

Do you think it was an issue between her and Gio rather than it just being Strictly? Wasn't she quite good friends with Georgia (Gio's ex girlfriend / strictly partner).

Obviously you have to take media reports with a pinch of salt sometimes, seems a bit random to bring it up now however many years after being in the show.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/04/2020 08:28

I'm sure I remember reading before that she wasn't keen on Giovanni 🤔

PineappleDanish · 14/04/2020 08:42

DD did the "hanging about outside the tour hotel" thing with her friend earlier in hte year and met a lot of the dancers and celebs - she said Graziano was her favourite. He does come across on telly as very up himself and arrogant but she said he was happy to stand there in the rain for ages, spending time with everyone, taking selfies and filming videos. Totally changed her opinion of him. Johannes was apparently lovely too. They are of course less well-known than the more established pros so may be less jaded by a little attention.

Thinking also about who they might rope in for this year - big choice of sports stars as the Olympics cancelled. I'd like to see Laura Muir the runner doing it, or Adam Peaty the swimmer. Or a retired sportsman like Chris Hoy or Paula Radcliffe.

As for the others it'll be the usual mix:

Someone from the One Show: Amol Rajan, Tim Peake, Angelica Bell?
Eastenders person: guy who played Keanu
Breakfast person: Louise Minchin or Sally sportsperson
Singer: Lulu, Toyah Wilcox, Kim Wilde (someone of that vintage anyway)
Kids TV Presenter: woman from Blue Peter, don't know her name
Chef: Tom Kerridge, Lorraine Pascal

Although who I'd really love to see doing it is Rylan and Nadiya Hussain.

Let's see in August if I've guessed any right!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/04/2020 08:57

Laura really disliked Giovanni and I think rightly as he was an arrogant twat towards her, but I think in the long run she did him huge favour because he clearly learned to manage his celebs better. All the partners after Laura talked about how caring and kind he was towards them.

I think both Giovanni and Brendan had very talented and co-operative celebs for their first ever partners and so their teaching method was quite demanding and domineering. But that doesn't work with everyone, some people will be broken by that and others will fight back. After they'd had difficult partners both Brendan and Giovanni were less arrogant and more adaptive in their teaching style.

mnahmnah · 14/04/2020 08:59

@covetingthepreciousthings

Yes she’s spoken before about regularly being in tears, because of how awkward it was being partnered with one of her closest friend’s ex boyfriend. It had to be very uncomfortable! No idea why the BBC thought it would be a good idea. I think she’s the only contestant to have ever been negative about the experience

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/04/2020 09:11

Others have been negative, just careful about their public image with it. Vick Hope was pretty bitchy about Graziano's teaching ability, Claire King and Brendan fought a lot, even more so Lulu and Brendan, Jamelia bitched almost non-stop. I think there are plenty of contestants who didn't enjoy the experience, although obviously the vast majority have the time of their lives.
