Okay, I wouldn't normally start an SCD thread this early but Kevin's left and it has just been announced that AJ will leave. This after the BBC announced the returning pros for next season.

That means if Graziano and Gorka have a partner this year, then there will be no male back up pros. I still think Michael from TGD might get asked to join.

What do fellow SCD fans think?

I'm quite sad that AJ is leaving. I will miss him more than I will miss Kevin

Not to be Dolly Downer but I don’t think it will be going ahead this year. Not from September anyway. Maybe later?

I also wish they would show previous seasons again. Not excerpts, or ‘best of’ just the episodes as they went out. Even if it was late at night on BBC 4, we could always record.
I would also love to see Vincent and Flavia.
Plus Kara and Artem, who is about to become a father, I think, with some wrestling woman?

I wonder if these deals that KFG and AJ have will necessarily pan out given current circumstances. If not, might they be begging to come back?

I don't get the Johannes love. He's a nice enough dancer but the fawning over him dancing in heels last series really irritated me intensely.

Giovanni is the one who consistently impresses me: I think his partnership with Debbie was one of my favourite ever on Strictly.

I'd love them to show the old series again. I only started watching from series 6 as I really did not think I would like it.

There is no way of seeing the early shows and I expect there are quite a few people like me that really got in to it later on and would like to see the earlier shows.

I’d love to see some of the older shows. The first one I watched was when Jill Halpenny won, but I was only dipping in and out. I didn’t really get into it properly till Alesha won.

I don't think we will get a series this year. All the soaps are not filming currently so as soon as they are able they will want their actors back in full time work, the Beeb won't want to release their people for the same reasons so it would be full of has beens and reality TV/YouTube "stars"

Then they should have Strictly Mum Dancing instead and sign us up. They could save loads of cash and many of us would happily self-isolate with Aljaz for the foreseeable

I think the Johannes love stemmed from the fact it was the first time you had had a flamboyant camp out male pro from the offset - Ian, Matthew and Robin were gay but not promoted as gay and with same-sex dance partnerships being a talking point, many are happy to align with Jojo: I agree with you about the heels, women do it all the time and taller ones too, it also felt a little like tokenism/fetishising Jojo to an extent...aw look, he likes Bey, and Steps and Pose. Production may have gone for that angle - as opposed to shipping him with Catherine(!) - times are a changing, but Jo added to it by the living his best life/being himself references.
I like camp routines, like gaymazing, but also liked his tango and rumba. Men dance in cuban heels, woman have always had heels, I don't care how men or women present, as long as the choreo's there.
There was a similar fawning over Karen having a more masculine/androgynous hairstyle this series too.
It could of course be as simple as viewers being drawn to joy - Johannes looked ecstatic to be there, Karen looked more comfortable, people are drawn to enthusiasm and confidence so that might account for the fangirling.

I think they will try their very hardest to make it happen - it's the biggest bbc show all year so they won't give up that easily.

Well if Kevin can sing he will be inundated with offers for musicals. I think he’s an amazing dancer and he could really do those kind of Gene Kelly roles.

I liked Johannes - he draws the eye when he's dancing. He & Greasy Arnold are obviously very good friends.

Can't say I'm bothered about AJ leaving. He didn't seem to have much personality although talented dancer. KFG's routines were usually entertaining to watch.

I wonder if in the long run it might do Strictly a bit of good to take a year off? They have been struggling to get big names for the last couple of years. Perhaps if they rerun an old season or do a season made up of best bits this year, then bring it back with a bang in 2021, it could give the programme a new lease of life!

I'm really worried that Strictly won't return this year, BUT maybe they could delay it and start it in January 2021 instead?!

I'd also love to see Rosie Ramsay (Chris Ramsay from last year wife), she seems like she'd be very up for it and I think she has dance experience so a potential ringer?

I’m not sad to see the back of AJ (I always liked his partners, but hated the only-young-people-in-village theming they always got lumbered with).

And I’ve never been a KFG fan.

I normally see the pros start gathering in May? June? On Instagram to start rehearsing the pro dances so I think a decision will have to made sooner than we’d like.

Rylan is excellent at demo-ing the moves, would have been great signing but didn't need it - has so many fingers in pies atm he is on all sorts.
I would like to see Ovie Soko on it. I also wouldn't mind Cheryl or Davina from UK Drag race or Conchita Wurst, the latter would be interesting as Tom could alternate between leading/following and presenting as Conchita or as Wurst. I would like to see Adam Hills or Richard Osman on it - both have disabilities which might make it hard for them but both are very entertaining.
No desire to see Chris Evans on it but would like to see Baron von Biscuits Jamie Laing back.
