Thought better start a thread as no one else had

Next sat looks good - with poor ruby struggling to juggle work and harmony

And matty pushes jade to the limit

Only able to catch up today so knew what was coming (spoilers everywhere) but despite that cried buckets. Brilliant TV. I think a PP said this should be compulsory viewing, not just so we were our masks etc but so we understand exactly what so many have been doing for us. Surely Amanda Mealing deserves an award?

excelledyourself · 03/01/2021 19:46

As I've "got used" to how things are, this has re-opened my eyes. All the details - Ethan's phone calls, Jacob and the BAME issues, Jade sitting with the dying patient to so that he wouldn't be alone - it's all just so cruel and this episode portrayed it so well.

My heart broke when Connie said "sleep well my friend" and again when we saw David's reaction.

I'm so sorry for all those on this thread who have lost a colleague or a loved one.

My friend has just started her nursing degree in September. I couldn't believe she still wanted to go ahead. I guess that's what sets her apart and means she's meant for the job.

SophieB100 · 03/01/2021 19:52

Amanda Mealing was outstanding, I agree.
They all were.

excelledyourself · 03/01/2021 20:00

And I love Connie. She's just the right mix of a takes-no-shit boss and a compassionate human being. And she's gorgeous.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 20:18

That's how I feel too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/01/2021 20:29

Wow. I’ve just seen

Was very well portrayed / what hospitals and their staff had to deal with in the first lockdown

Ethans Calls fo family :(

The lady who say bye to her family

I woke up or I don’t :(

That set me off

And Noel :(

Guess they chose him as greeting everyone abs no screens to begin with

Connies /Amanda’s acting was superb

Unlike wooden Charlie :(

Yes be interesting to find out about F baby - she was on furlough due to asthma (lie I think ) to protect baby

JAN didn’t beleive her abs surrey wouid be in her medical records

I think this is why it hit so hard. We were supposed to be past the worst of it, but the reality is we are probably only entering the worst right now. We have all 'got used' to it as you say and the program really highlighted how bad things are, not how bad they were. They didn't expect us to be where we are when they filmed itS

It gave me a whole new perspective on things, because so many of us have got used to it, let things slip a bit etc.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/01/2021 20:42

I never watch Holby, so if Casualty had just carried on without this episode it would have been really weird. I’m in Scotland and Holby was always on late on a weeknight, after the news at 10, although that may be different atm.

purpleme12 · 03/01/2021 20:56

I don't watch Holby either

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 21:12

Do hospitals still do the heart thing? I couldn't find it at my local one.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 03/01/2021 22:19

Isn't the paramedic called Venetia?

Or is that what I hear because I had a schoolfriend with that name?

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 22:20

It's Fenisha :)

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 22:22

(I googled it to check the spelling)

purpleme12 · 03/01/2021 22:30

I guess they do sound similar 😂

Viciouslybashed · 03/01/2021 23:00

That was an astonishingly moving episode. Brilliant acting. Ethan phonecalls and the bit where jade can't understand why they have stopped treating the lady cos she can't hear.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/01/2021 23:07

I thought she was Venetia too! I teach a student with that name, so that’s probably why I hear that.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 04/01/2021 09:48

See now I can't see her as a Fenisha! It's all wrong in my head. I suppose that's what happens when you don't see character's names written down.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 04/01/2021 10:12

I've seen posts on twitter from people who work in A&E who don't normally watch Casualty. They say this episode nailed what it was like.

Skipsurvey · 04/01/2021 11:54

my dm and her friend did some hearts but found them difficult, they needed stuffing which was inaccessible at the time, so went on to squares for newborns.

i guess casualty did need to remind us of how harrowing life is again

morningtoncrescent62 · 04/01/2021 16:06

I've just watched it on iPlayer. I thought it was very well done, and it made me feel a bit ashamed of the times I've moaned about the things I haven't been able to do in lockdown - while NHS staff have been coping with everything the front line has thrown at them.

My heart was in my mouth for the first half in case the colleague dying was Dylan because I love him and Casualty wouldn't be worth watching without him. Charlie was annoying as usual. But apart from that, I got into the storyline to an extent that I haven't been able to in Casualty for years. The marks on Connie's face from wearing PPE broke me up. And the mother and baby leaving the hospital. It's reminded me of just how heroic the frontline workers have been, and how sold down the river by a government that urged us to applaud them, but is now denying them a proper pay rise.

Mysa74 · 06/01/2021 17:45

The marks are so accurate, several of my friends nurse on Covid wards and had pasted photos taken hours after the end of their 12 your shift and they are still glaringly obvious... I feel so guilty for being on mat leave right now Sad

PortalooSunset · 09/01/2021 20:01

Ffs. Back a week and usurped by bloody football 🙄

spiderlight · 09/01/2021 20:09

Is it not going to be on? I was hoping it would come on late after the sodding football had finished.

PortalooSunset · 09/01/2021 20:16

I dunno. It's usually first to get canned though.

PortalooSunset · 09/01/2021 20:16

Oh, I stand corrected. Phew.
