Next sat looks good - with poor ruby struggling to juggle work and harmony

And matty pushes jade to the limit

Wouldn't the choice whether to work be Charlie's? Seems unlikely that they would turn away a willing and experienced nurse purely for age reasons.

spiderlight · 03/01/2021 12:54

God, that was brutal. Noel :( :(

AppleCrumbleCake · 03/01/2021 13:36

A very emotional episode which i thought highlighted so many issues/decisions NHS staff (and people who have tested positive) have faced, and continue to face.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/01/2021 14:33

I thought the acting during the phone call scene was incredibly moving.

ChristingleAlltheWay · 03/01/2021 14:41

@Everybodyfednobodydead - thank you for what you're doing. x

Can I ask though, does a real A & E have all the plastic up as Casualty did? I'm thinking in particular the curtains. I just founf it very noticeable and wondered if it was accurate. Thanks.

Mildmustard · 03/01/2021 15:07

I liked that they tried to highlight everyone in the healthcare settings.
Domestics, porters, care home workers, doctors and nurses etc etc.
Very important to remember it’s a network of workers that make the healthcare system a ‘whole’

That’s me being a ‘domestic’ noticing that and I can’t tell you how many people I’ve come across that have gone out of their way to thank myself and my colleagues (regardless of where we are ranked)

I’m afraid that I did experience a few ‘you’re not even NHS/just a cleaner’ during the whole clapping on Thursday thing (comments on social media) but it’s nice to see the whole setting acknowledged.

Casualty has always been great at that of course and I’m proud to work in a hospital.

Ffsnosexallowed · 03/01/2021 15:13

A&E where I am is nothing like what was portrayed in casualty(might have been more like it back in March/April)

We have a community covid assessment centre, at different hospital site. Anyone suspected or confirmed covid is assessed there. If they then need to go to hospital they are admitted direct to a covid ward. Also, older people are admitted via a different pathway - not through A&E. A&E have a green and a red pathway, to keep covid/ non covid separate as far as possible.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 15:13

One lighthearted bit - Dylan's name sticker on his visor had lots of smiley faces on it 😂

Ffsnosexallowed · 03/01/2021 15:15

@Mildmustard thank you. One of the first staff members we lost to covid was a porter - he is very sadly missed

Mildmustard · 03/01/2021 15:19

@Ffsnosexallowed our first to go amongst the staff was actually a nurse who took their own life Sad

It’s been a shocking time for everyone Flowers

Al1langdownthecleghole · 03/01/2021 15:28

Thanks from me too mildmustard. When I walked out of my Mums side room having said goodbye to her it was one of the domestics who saw me and kindly offered me tissues.

I made a point of thanking him in my letter to the ward afterwards. I was very grateful to him.

Mildmustard · 03/01/2021 15:35

@Al1langdownthecleghole I really hope your message got to him, what a sweetheart.

I’m very sorry for your loss Flowers

Lol @SoupDragon
his smiley faced visor made me Grin

@Mildmustard was that Kings? (Feel free not to answer if you'd rather not).

Mildmustard · 03/01/2021 15:49

@RockingMyFiftiesNot no, not Kings Sad

So far as I could gather, that was what they were setting up at Holby - I think it was and presumably is common to every major hospital.
Mumoftwoinprimary · 03/01/2021 16:08

I thought it was a brilliant episode. Yes - hard hitting and upsetting but that is what Casualty was always about.

It looks like future episodes will be back to the usual “whose shagging who” with Connie and Jacob and Ethan and Fenisha’s stories to carry on. But we needed one where it focused on Covid or it would be ridiculous.

Calabasa · 03/01/2021 16:16

@SoupDragon

Holby are doing an amazing job of working within the pandemic with dramatic license, there was no reason last nights Casualty couldn't do/have done the same

Is this the same Holby that had a "slap in the face" episode to kick the new series off?

yes, which as i said earlier, is why Casualty didnt need to do the same thing, Holby already did it.
SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 16:19

Bit weird. They aren't the same programme. Different people might watch either or both.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 16:22

Ultimately, it's down to an individual whether they watch an episode or not. The fact that many think it was excellent shows that they were right to make it.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 16:26

Just looked ahead and it's on at 7:45 next week 🙂

Madhairday · 03/01/2021 16:52

I've just watched it and think it was excellent. Very well done, but very harrowing - and Noel :(

The bit with the woman saying goodbye to her family before she went onto a ventilator about broke me. I'm ECV and I have a sick dread about it.

I think Amanda Mealing deserves an award for her acting in that.

I also hope it will make some of the deniers and minimisers think a bit. Very much reality for too many right now :(

I'm glad they did it because I don't think they should shy away from it. It's left me a blubbering heap but I think it had to be done.

But Noel. :( :( :(

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/01/2021 16:53

It was a very hard-hitting episode to watch but excellent.

Poor Noel though. I loved his character and am very cross that they sacrificed his character for the sake of the plot.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 03/01/2021 17:12

@Mildmustard how sad that there was more than one young nurse so early on x

yankeedoodledandee · 03/01/2021 17:55

Casualty didnt need to do the same thing, Holby already did it.

They didn't though. Did you watch both shows? They were not the same.

SophieB100 · 03/01/2021 18:23

I thought it was well done and very touching.
I knitted covid 'hearts' in the early summer, because my DD is an ICU nurse, and it was something that started in her hospital. She told me later that they placed hearts with patients in ICU, and sent the second one to the family. Last night's episode really touched me when they portrayed this. It brought it home to me.
And Ethan making all those difficult phone calls...my DDs had to do those, and sort out the video calls before patients are ventilated.
So, it was hard to watch, but very well done. The little touches, they did it very well. My DD is part of an amazing close knit team, who all are like family - and that came across too.
And yes, poor Noel.
