Watching Classic Eastenders (currently 1992) Phil was the sweet and sensible, non psycho brother. Trying remember when/why Phil went bad. Was it the result of a major bust up with Grant?

The80sweregreat · 22/02/2020 16:52

Phil was ok back in the day.
Then it went bad. Lisa tried to kill him etc.
He took over from Grant as the hard man character.

lazymum99 · 22/02/2020 16:53

Didn't phil adopt Jay too.

tobee · 22/02/2020 16:58

There were online episodes of Phil in prison and was told that was supposed to be revealing but I never got around to watching them. Can't remember why he was "inside" now or when. He's a law unto himself, though, isn't he? Bogging off to Spain/Italy whenever he has to do panto feels like it. Sharon gets no say. I think we've said before how badly he'd go down on Mumsnet relationship boards! Lol!

tobee · 22/02/2020 16:59

I don't know how formal the Jay adoption was.

I remember cute little Bobby being presented to Jane in a ribbon when she was going to adopt him.

numberonecook · 22/02/2020 17:04

a favourite saying in our house is 'Is he dead dead or dirty den dead?' Meaning is he dead or will he come back?

I kept saying this at leo but i think hes dead dead isn't he? i hope martin. and sonia havnt moved him now whitney has told the truth

SoupDragon · 22/02/2020 17:54

Sonia and Martin haven't moved the body, Martin was going to call the police and that discussion was interrupted by the call from Kush about Bex.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2020 18:23

I’m hoping Leo isn’t dead as it’s a big burden to think killed someone for Whitney. Even in self defence

Hopefully is alive and passed out from Bleeding

I just looked at the year Martine McCutcheon was in EE and it was 1995. That is 25 years ago! I remember her in it and I was saying earlier I’ve been watching EE for about 15 years. I remember Barry who was a year before her. When was Grant married to Sharon as I watched it then too. I do not remember watching Pat’s sons though I remember David Wicks. If it’s been in for 35 years, it seems as if I have been watching it for at least 25 of them. I’m in my mid forties.

Aria20 · 22/02/2020 19:09

@PattiPrice I remember Tiffany dying in it so I've obv been watching it that long too! Although I wouldn't have been consistently watching it from then as I'd have only been 8 if that was 25 years ago! I remember Jack Ryder and Paul Nichols in it which google tells me was 96/97 for Paul Nichols and 98/2002 for Jack Ryder so I guess I've been watching from a young age!!

Aria20 · 22/02/2020 19:11

And I do remember Patrick's sons!

PattiPrice · 22/02/2020 19:16

I meant Pat Butcher’s dons Grin

Ah Jamie. He was lovely.
Wiki says Sonia was born in 1983 which makes her 37?

PattiPrice · 22/02/2020 19:16
  • sons
Aria20 · 22/02/2020 19:18

Ah I remember Peggy and Pat fighting over Frank and him turning up at Pat's naked with the spinning bow tie Grin

Cary2012 · 22/02/2020 19:37

Thanks for new thread blondes.
Well my prediction of Martin being bumped off was way off, but I think Sharon will initially reject baby Kenny, Ian, wracked with guilt will support her, they'll get close then Sharon will find out the truth. Then she'll end up back with Phil.
But what do I know!

The80sweregreat · 22/02/2020 19:45

Phil might take her back. I think he'll feel bad and want to help but it's not his normal default setting so hard to know!
The truth will come out via the mobile phone message I suppose. Ian will feel terrible and Sharon will hate him. Kathy will be in the middle again!
She will want revenge but not sure how she'll go about it with a baby on board! If she keeps him : she might not want him! Poor baby.

itsgettingweird · 22/02/2020 20:15

I was 4 when it started! Watched it during my teens (mid 90's) and again after a stint abroad first half of 2000.

I remember Paul Nicolls in it. One of the reasons I watched! I use to watch the Biz with him in too.

I also remember Joe Absolum being in it. He then came on holiday with his mates to the ski resort I was working in. It wasn't much of a holiday for him. Plenty of school groups of teen kids who were obsessed with following him around,

Cary2012 · 22/02/2020 20:31

I can remember David Essex in it Grin

StCharlotte · 22/02/2020 20:42

I had hoped for a massive cull Emmerdale-style.

Actually I stopped watching it years and years ago (way too depressing and not remotely realistic) so I was pretty shocked to see Sharon was pregnant at her age! (Not far off my age)

gower4 · 22/02/2020 20:47

I remember Den the first time around!!

SheepSocks · 22/02/2020 20:58

I thought Phil and Shirley nearly got married at one point, would Phil of been a bigamist to go this?

wannabebetter · 22/02/2020 21:05

I think I've watched (on & off) for the whole time (I'm 50) and had the BIGGEST crush on Dirty Den - I got my boyfriend to fight his way through many many screaming girls to get me a signed photo when he came to the 'Top Rank' in Swansea!!! The state of him (the BF) when he got out of the scrum!!

The80sweregreat · 22/02/2020 21:21

I watched an old one today with Peggy and Frank Butcher one guy fawkes night.
It was a duff duff moment with a hand written letter but compared to last nights big boat disaster it seemed very twee and the acting not nearly as good. Phil was with lisa and she looked quite glamorous. They had landline phones too : not a mobile in sight!
It looked old but it wasn't that long ago really. The Vic hasn't altered much over the years though.

aWeaponCalledtheWord · 22/02/2020 21:44

i don’t care who lives or dies but if Phil calls that boy ‘Kearnoh’ one more time i will scream. does the director not say anything?

does me swede in.

tobee · 22/02/2020 22:20

Dirty Den's son used to go to my kids school for a while! Shock
