Wow BlackieBooBoo!

BlackieBooBoo · 24/02/2020 19:03

It's bizarre seeing it on TV and all the tractors and tackle that belong to my Dad. Strange that they didn't use his sheep though...

They don't film much inside now, if any. They have a set in Manchester for the indoors scene I believe.

I don't live in UK but I'm going back for a visit this week.
The first thing that my Dad will say is 'Did you watch Tango?'

ScapaFlo · 24/02/2020 19:24

And does the house have woodworm? 😂

The80sweregreat · 24/02/2020 19:29

That's amazing about your dads farm.
Mumsnetters are so cool!
I hope they put everything back! It's a lovely part of the world.
It is sad that Alan and Celia are not happy but she is a bit of a mardy one and I agree the kids potty mouths did surprise me.
I'd forgotten about the kids too.
I bet Alan or her will have an affair to show that it's not always youngsters that split up!

BlackieBooBoo · 24/02/2020 19:40

It probably does have woodworm. It's very old, 1709.
It's bloody cold that's for sure.

diddl · 24/02/2020 20:04

I did wonder when Celia said that she'd always been a saver-where did this money that she saved come from-her husband??

I can understand wanting nice things, but a bespoke kitchen??

And her ridiculous conversation with Martin "Oh we'll eat at my daughter's-she's a headteacher"

Like he cares!!

And ignoring Alan to boast to Martin!

Is she treating Alan badly because she was so unhappy in her marriage?

Funkycats · 24/02/2020 20:08

How cool is that, @BlackieBooBoo!

I really enjoyed it. It's a bit far fetched, but the characters are quite believable.

Looking forward to the rest of the series. Celia was always a bit of a horror but she's got worse!

I love the whole cast and I think they work together brilliantly.

graingers · 24/02/2020 20:23

@blackiebooboo That's the coolest thing I've ever read on Mumsnet.

viques · 24/02/2020 20:43

BlackieBooBoo wow, how amazing. I am also willing to concede that you have out top trumped me by a country mile, since my only claim to fame re Tango was that I fleetingly attended Bolton School (girls division) where Caroline was the headteacher in the first couple of series. Though it was filmed in the boys division so I don't even really have that as a trump card.

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo · 24/02/2020 20:49

Really looking forward to watching this. Particularly to see if Sally Wainwright went through with the dare that Sarah Lancashire challenged her with at the charity screening of Episode 1 of Series 2 of Happy Valley.

Which was - Sarah Lancashire's character in Last Tango should go into a police station and ask to speak to Sarah Lancashire's character as a police sergeant in Happy Valley. It would be bloody brilliant if she did it!

Cary2012 · 24/02/2020 21:21

@BlackieBooBoo
How amazing that they use your dad's farm. Stunning views, am jealous!
Celia was horrible before, she was very cruel to Caroline when she refused to go to her wedding, and sulked in her dressing gown all morning.
Great acting though.

I seriously hate Celia,.

ScapaFlo · 24/02/2020 23:21

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo that would be absolutely awesome!

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2020 23:31

I've been excited since I saw them filming it in Booths in Ilkley a few months back.

Yes!!!! I bet DH that it was Booth’s in Ilkley. I won!

Bumpsadaisie · 24/02/2020 23:40

BikeRunSki - yep!

Think "Waverleys" is not quite so posh as the real Ilkley booths though !

Sad to say me n DH freeze frames it for several minutes trying to spot my car in the car park!

BlackieBooBoo · 25/02/2020 04:50

The views are amazing, can see for miles on a clear day and its stunning in summer.
My Dad is so proud.

Some pics I took after they had filmed S1.

As much as I don't like Celia , there are many women around like her and very outspoken too. Age makes them think they can say what they like! No wonder he fancies a job to get him out the way of her and her no carb lunches!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 25/02/2020 07:19

I was at school with Sarah Lancashire.

Well, she was several years below me.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/02/2020 08:07

Strange that they didn't use his sheep though...

I expect that they have sheep under contract that can demand the roles.

RADA is very strict about these things, as I understand. Grin

I would be chuffed to bits if my home was on telly possibly as a druggies' squat, or downtown Beirut . . .

Funkycats · 25/02/2020 08:43

@JayAlfredPrufrock I was at school (different years) with a couple of well known actors, and I still get a ridiculous sense of totally unjustifiable pride when I see them on telly 😂 Feels good doesn't it?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/02/2020 10:21

I know exactly what you mean Funky - I once babysat a couple of David Bellamy's umpteen kids (there were 6 - biological and adopted) and I felt famous by association every time "Bellamy on Botony" was on the telly

Pebble21uk · 25/02/2020 10:32

Enjoyed having it back, but agree with some of the comments - Celia is worse with no redeeming features or humour in her character and there were a lot of long monologues. It's also been so long it's hard to remember who some characters are...

BUT some of the comments about Caroline I really disagree with... someone said that it's a shame they had a plot twist and made her gay... What?? Am I hearing that right? - It's the 21st century. There are a lot of women who discover theur true sexuality late - especially around Caroline's age when it was hard to be gay when younger. Some people are gay - get over it! It's not a plot twist - it's an integral part of the whole drama!

I also don't think Caroline was being particularly predatory - another accusation often thrown at lesbians (yes I am one). She fancies a member of staff (okay so I don't agree in interfering in someone else's relationship given the woman had a partner, albeit in the spare room) but she's allowed to invite a woman to dinner for God's sake. The other woman has choices!! So what if she's straight - Caroline will soon find out if she'd interested or not! It's not a black and white world!

It's also very usual to meet your partner at work! And I've spent most of my teaching career working in a school where the headteacher got together with a teacher and they eventually married... you may think it's unprofessional but it's incredibly common! Rant over!

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/02/2020 10:57

I don't think Caroline was predatory, and agree that there's no harm in asking a colleague out if you get on well and are both single, its how you handle it if they decline that's important and we haven't seen that. I just think its a bit of a lazy storyline to have the same thing happening twice, Kate was one of her teachers too.

Sarcelle · 25/02/2020 11:07

Nothing wrong with fancying a colleague but the look at the end when the colleague was walking away from her was full on letch. I would say the same if it was a straight man looking at a female, or a gay guy looking at another guy.

I don't recall there being a comment on here about the plot twist. I think the late life lesbian story is a good one. However BBC dramas seem to have a checklist of demographics to shoehorn into their dramas and that sometimes feels a bit clumsy. Not in this instance. But there was a Kay Mellor one that was set in a council registry office and I had to abandon it, it was just who shall we have for this character, and this one. It was very apparent she had either been coerced to write that way, or she knew the BBC would not commission something that did not tick certain boxes. It was clunky and unwatchable.

diddl · 25/02/2020 13:41

That was me who said about Caroline being gay.

Obviously "shame" was the wrong word to use, it's just that it seems to be in so many dramas now that it's a cliche.

I did think that she was pushing to get the other woman to meet up with her though-to go through questions for Judith wasn't it, & then it might as well be at her house on the Saturday?

So an excuse to be alone at her house & the other woman stay over disguised as work.
